Absolutely. I don’t fault our leaders for not knowing exactly what to do to combat this virus at first, but we needed a forceful message about the dangers it posed. Unimaginable damage was done by trying to minimize the impact on our country. Dividing people based on who was impacted most severely, politicizing restrictions, using racist terms to refer to the virus - we’re better than this.

I’ll move on once I see Scott atlas tossed into the roses from the second floor balcony by the secret service...that will do.

Probably feeling the same way over in Europe. I wonder who they're blaming over there.

In some countries...some of the same kinda messaging by other “less than medical experts”.

But Europe has - I believe - 37 sovereign countries with mostly free passage on a land mass there roughly 2/3 of the size of the continental US.

It’s much more difficult for uniformity there by default. We are fairly isolated...especially when Canada just “matter of factly” takes that off the table.

Things are hard because we always like to make them so.

If "we're better than this" then the entire country, or most of it, since there will always be a few that unreasonably refuse, needs to SHOW IT.

Is the pandemic over now that the election is done? There should be no cases now right??? Asking for a friend.

When people post things like this post - are they making fun of Trump supporters or Biden supporters? I thought this was a Republican talking point, but in the end, stop with this crap.

Looking forward to tomorrow to find out the task force and further plans. No, he's not going to say he's got a vaccine no one knew about, but hoping to hear plans on manufacturing PPE, managing supply chains, etc.

Nope, the hoax continues because.... reasons.

“Our work begins with getting Covid under control,” he said.
Mr. Biden is expected to name three co-chairs of the 12-member panel: Vivek Murthy, a former surgeon general, who has been a key Biden adviser for months and is expected to take a major public role; David Kessler, a former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration; and Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith, a Yale University professor.
The announcement of the task force would be part of a weeklong focus that Mr. Biden intends to place on health care and the pandemic, as he begins the process of building his administration, a person close to the transition said.
During the campaign, Mr. Biden repeatedly assailed Mr. Trump’s handling of the pandemic, his refusal to wear a mask and his downplaying of the threat from the virus, which has spread across the country.
“I will spare no effort, none, or any commitment to turn around this pandemic,” Mr. Biden said Saturday.
But Mr. Trump, who has largely shuttered the White House Coronavirus Task Force and has repeatedly told voters that the country was “rounding the corner,” is not due to leave office for two more months. And the pandemic shows every sign of exploding further in that period, deepening Mr. Biden’s challenge.
The United States reported more than 132,790 new cases on Friday, a single-day record, according to a New York Times database. Saturday brought about 126,100 more new cases, the fourth tally exceeding 100,000 in four days. On average over the past week, the country has reported nearly 107,000 new cases a day, and its total case count from the start of the pandemic is rapidly approaching 10 million.
At least 16 states reported single-day records for new cases on Friday, and nine did so on Saturday, : West Virginia, Virginia, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Utah, Oregon, Alaska and Nevada.
More than 54,800 people were hospitalized with the virus on Friday, according to the Covid Tracking Project.
Deaths are also rising. On Saturday the country recorded more than 1,000 corona virus-related deaths for the fifth straight day, the first time that had happened since August. West Virginia set a record for new deaths in one day; seven states announced more deaths in the last week than in any previous week. More than 237,500 people in the country have died in the pandemic.
Mr. Biden has vowed that on Day 1 of his administration, he will move rapidly to confront the pandemic by appointing a “national supply chain commander” and establishing a “pandemic testing board,” similar to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s wartime production panel.
His aides have assembled a group of roughly two dozen health policy and technology experts to look at the development and delivery of a vaccine, improvement of health data and the securing of supply chains, among other issues.
Aides said Mr. Biden would use the power of the presidency to invoke the Defense Production Act, a Korean War-era law, more aggressively than Mr. Trump has, to order businesses to build up stocks of necessary supplies.
While Mr. Biden would like to see a national mask mandate, his advisers have concluded that he does not have the legal authority to impose one. So he will try to increase mask wearing in other ways. He has already said that, as president, he would require masks on all federal property, using an executive order that could have wide reach and is likely to come in the first hours or days of his presidency.
In addition to mandating masks in federal buildings, Mr. Biden has said he would require them on “all interstate transportation.”

I wasn't making fun of either side. I was making a comment towards to few in here who believed this all had to with the election.

I'm hoping Biden looks at what other countries have done and take some ideas from that. I'm glad to hear he is making masks mandatory in federal buildings. I know he doesn't have power over each state but would like to see him get together with all the governors and work on a national plan. Setup guidelines like was originally planned. My only concern is getting the majority of people to follow the guidelines.

There were several posters here who insisted the virus was being over-hyped by the main stream media to hurt Trump’s re-election chances and once the election was over we would stop hearing about it so I think it’s more a swipe at them. The vast majority of people who voted for Trump probably don’t believe that so I wouldn’t say it’s poking fun at all Trump supporters, just the tin foil hat squad which is a very small percentage of the whole.

I agree 100% with your sentiment on the future and hearing about a plan. It’s time to move on from the mistakes of the past and focus on getting out of this situation as fast as possible for the sake of all of us for both public health reasons and for the economy. There will come a time in the future to look back and study the virus and the response and analyze who made good moves and who didn’t. Now is the time to keep our eyes on the ball and follow through on a plan.

In super spreader event news...South Bend Indiana decided to host the very first Covchella festival last night. They really will need the luck of the Irish after this ;) The really scary part is all these students are coming home to your town in a few weeks and will be sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner with their parents, grandparents and other relatives.

...and we are worried about a small crowd on Main Street for fireworks or a parade :)

That to me is no different. Just more people. For me it's not crowds so much as it's the amount of people shoulder to shoulder.

Well, CNN is now advocating for kids to get out and do more. So maybe?

And apparently these people think it's over:

Here is the entire article. Gives you a little bit more context than a blurb from some nobody on Twitter.

The narrative is that Disney started its reopening with ”strict” measures (masks, distancing, plexiglas barriers, reduced entertainment, limited capacity), but its moving to gradually raise capacity and will eventually add entertainment back in. It’s like testing the waters of how many people the parks can safely accommodate.

But this narrative is false, because we have no idea whether the parks are operating safety. We don’t know if its safe to raise capacity, or if the current capacity is way beyond what the parks can safely manage. We have no idea.

So,
There's only so much they can do. Theme parks are not conducive to containing a virus. Even on the slowest day with the lowest attendance, shows of any kind will cause people to gather in one place for the best view. All these people are outside, wearing the masks they were told to wear. They will probably be less likely to spread the virus than people gathering inside each other's homes for the holidays.
Isn’t really true. Disney could do more to protect people than they’re currently doing. And, though I think we agree, we don’t know that it’s “so far, so good.”
I don’t actually think that picture is a bad thing. Disney has slowly and steadily increased crowd levels so it’s not like they went from closed to huge crowds. So far so good on crowd levels.
I used to think, “Hey, people are free to do whatever they want, let them go to Disney World during a pandemic! I don’t think it’s wise, but I’ll just stay home.” But now I’m not so neutral. Seeing all those people willingly intermingling while the virus spreads out of control leaves me to conclude that all those people are selfish, foolish, and ignorant.

I personally have not felt safe to travel to Disney or regional theme parks yet.

But there are many people saying that it’s extremelt selfish to NOT go since that’s keeping people from being able to work and it’s forcing businesses to close.

I don’t agree with either side telling others they are being selfish.
I drew a WDW paycheck for 17 years and know a few hundred CM personally, so I sure don't wish them to lose their income (though many already have). Having said that, thanks for your thoughtful reply. Losing a job is extremely painful; I sure don't wish that on anyone.

I'd still assert that there is no equivalency between unemployment (or any economic factor) and health (even, in rare extreme cases, serious illness, pain, and death). One does not balance out or erase the other. Risking other people's health and wellness (even at their economic benefit) is selfish.
