Beautiful day at Magic Kingdom! It's the least stressful few hours I've had in the park in years. Everyone was ahearing to social distancing in the lines and walkways. Disney has efficiently created safe ways to enter and exit shops, and it's just an overall happier vibe than it's ever been. I also loved the random character parades as an alternative to meet and greets. Hope something similar continues after this ends.

The mask wearing in the heat isn't nearly as bad as people claim if you pace yourself and stay hydrated. The only thing I'd say is inconvenient is the new bus boarding, so we drove the last few days.

I highly recommend anyone who is iffy about going back to WDW just pack the car and go to Orlando asap!! Experiencing the parks in a low crowd environment like this is a must! Sad to leave so early hut we've got a long 10 hour drive ahead ;)
This is nice to hear. I am going next month as I will never have a flexible schedule like I do right now again. I work COVID in healthcare and I know what I am facing. I don't drink water for 12hrs a shift some days lol. I am driving to the parks and taking advantage of some off-site deals, I don't care to ride the buses just yet lol.

It worked here as we are reopening now and our numbers have stayed very low. It does work if you do it properly like was originally planned. It should have been 2 to 4 weeks between phases. Instead it was a week.
Let’s wait and see. If the virus hasn’t burned through your population yet, it will. Unless you close all borders. Look to Japan and Australia, the Philippines.

At any level? Or at an extreme “essential only” level?

I think restrictions for indoor dining, bars, sports arenas and theaters do more good than harm.
Guess that depends on if you work in or around those industries.

Edit to add....

If you mean open those things with distance requirements, then I agree, that helps. If you mean close them till there’s a vaccine, I don’t agree.

I'll say I'm cautiously optimistic that it is receding.

Not in a "mission accomplished" kind of way, mind you.

If we can all just keep on with the masks and other precautions we can get a handle on it and move forward.
Wait, now everyone is wearing masks and that’s working? A few days ago everyone wasn’t listening and that’s why numbers were climbing.

Also, something to think about when looking at positive cases....

“SARS-CoV-2 RNA detected in their upper respiratory specimens for up to 12 weeks”

Well... I do (or did?) work in those industries. Ha.

So yes you’re for the restrictions correct?
I’ve always been for sensible restrictions. If a theatre holds 1500 people, only let 500 in. Charge more for a ticket if you have to. Same goes for baseball stadiums, or bars. What I am not for, is blanket lockdowns, government choosing what’s essential and what’s not essential. We panicked in March. Let’s not repeat the same mistakes in August.

It is what you said. “If we can all keep on with the masks”

Yes. I’m a believer in masks.

Now if you could point to where I attribute the recession to recent mask wearing....

I hope it’s the case. But with the backlog I don’t know if anyone can be certain that that is the reason or not. But I believe if we all keep on with the masks it will go down. Would love to see a scientific study on it, which in a few weeks will be more conclusive. At that point I’ll come on here and say “because mask usage was up the stats declined”

Stay tuned....

I'm still curious as to why the Covid tracking project always shows ~20,000 tests per day less than what the FDOH shows. Covidtrackign says: "Florida's report states that: "People tested on multiple days will be included for each day a new result was received." Are they subtracting those out? It certainly changed the % positive number by a huge amount.
I think that website is simply subtracting "yesterday's total number" from "today's total number" to get a daily total. This is based on "Florida Testing" tab on the Dashboard. We can check by jotting it down for a few days.

So for today, the total number of people tested says: 3,436,270

The daily report, that DCBaker kindly posts for us everyday, breaks things down in a way the FL Dashboard doesn't do. In the report, we get the total number of tests, and the report itself shows two different positivity numbers. One based on the total tests, one from the new tests (which is the one that gets posted here daily). Interestingly, the positivity is higher with the total tests, indicating most of the duplicate tests are positives. Which makes sense, if they are testing patients daily waiting for them to get the "all clear" to discharge them.

Anyway, I don't think Covid Tracking is using the Daily Report, only the Dashboard. I think the Dashboard is using a number the "daily new tests" which actually isn't published in the Daily Report, even though we get the positivity calculation that uses it.

“Charge more for a ticket” - if only it were that simple :(

It still could but by doing what we have done we keep numbers low and are able to do contact tracing. Which helps stop what is happening in Florida.

For now. Look to Japan. You can’t stop the spread of the virus. It’s like holding your breath to keep from drowning. It’ll work for a little bit, but eventually you’re gonna need to start swimming.

No, but you can slow the spread and mitigate the worst social and economic effects. We don't need to be (literally) fatalistic about this.

Japan is still doing much better than we are. When the case numbers are low, testing and contact tracing can prevent large scale community spread.

We don’t believe in contact tracing in this country. We have privacy rights. The government shouldn’t be asking us where we are going and what we are doing. So if we really aren’t planning to trace and avoid hot spots then the alternative is to let er rip.
