So the idea that the numbers are messed up a bit or a lot is so far fetched that it can't be true.

Just to add to what everyone else is said, what we understand about the severity of this disease is not just from clinical results. Scientists around the world are looking at this using very sophisticated data analysis and collection tools. We know a lot about it as a result, and what we know with certainty is that "the numbers" are only capturing a subset of the seriousness of the situation. We have problems with inadequate numbers of people tested in the US, for instance, which means we're only capturing a fraction of the real number of cases. But our problems are small compared to those in the developing world. As a result, there's a large literature about how best to measure the outbreak being produced by scientists without political agendas. Beyond everything else, if this was a "hoax", you would hear about it from scientists in other countries, not people on youtube.

With that in mind, the US isn't the only country going through this and seeing the same things. Every country in the world has acknowledged that this is real, including countries that aren't friendly to the US. Do you think China, Russia, or Iran would miss an opportunity to criticize the US government for being misled by a "hoax"? Do you think they're also part of this same conspiracy?

If only the CDC and WHO knew that a plethora of Covid experts existed at an online WDW fan community, and that these experts know specifically how to handle this situation based on their extremely specific experiences of being at home and locked down with limited real world interactions aside from a once a week trip to Wal Mart, the grocery store or what they see and hear on tv.

Their ability to paraphrase and/or directly quote an online article of "data" is absolutely all that's required to deem another persons experiences, opinion or data, invalid and completely irrelevant.

If only the CDC knew of the 8 or 9 posters in this forum that have all the answers and are intolerant of dissent!!!! Why??!!!!! Why haven't they discovered you!!??? We would all be saved!!!

ETA:. I'll be surprised if my posting privelages don't get revoked in this thread even tho my post mentioned WDW, but the Council Of 8 who preside over this thread can spew venom all day every day at anyone who disagrees.

Why have they not discovered you, the one with proof that much of the medical community is wrong and doesn’t know how to do their job?

What sources and interpretations do you rely on?

I haven't noticed anyone spewing venom, but there's a huge difference between posting unscientific anecdotes and "well I think..." and people posting based on what actual experts and scientific data tell them.

It's anti-intellectualism run amok.

I'm not posting here 24x7 as if I were an expert and shooting down any form curiosity.
You don’t post 24/7, that is correct. You come in here every few days and take shots at people and disappear. I guess that’s fine if that’s what you like to do but why criticize anyone because they don’t do what you do? This is a message board, if someone wants to show charts, give opinions, get into a friendly back and forth discussion, it’s all good. Lighten up.
And to think I wanted to have a beer with you about a month ago when I saw you drinking a cold one outside. 🙂

I would happily have a beer with you even though we may disagree on certain subjects. It would most definitely be a learning experience for me to understand a differing opinion. Conversations should be educational, not emotional.

ugh why does the % keep doing that!!!?
No country in the world is testing nearly at the levels we are. There’s always a lot of talk about how Europe has done so much better then us. One thing they haven’t done is test at these crazy levels.

Now don’t bite my head off, this is purely conjecture on my part, but it makes some sense.

Maybe we are testing too many people. Maybe we should be doing much more targeted testing, rather then testing 700-800 thousand people a day. We are capturing a staggering amount of not sick people, and it’s hurting 1. accuracy of testing. And 2. The timing of results.

Perhaps a more focused approach is the way to go.

The way states are coming up with a percent positive number will always be off in some way.

Ideally, you test a large enough random sample of the people in your state, and that will give you an accurate percent positive number.

However, back when tests weren't plentiful, only those with symptoms were tested, and naturally, the percent positive was high.

Then when tests became prevalent, large numbers of people with no symptoms were running out to get tested, and naturally, that pushed the percent positive low.

Right now the people who are being tested are:
  • people going to the hospital
  • certain workers
  • people told to get tested because of contact tracing
  • anyone who feels like it

That's not how you come to a definite percent positive.

It can tell you generally whether the the total number of percent positive is going up or down as a trend.

In the end the numbers that can most accurately tell us how bad things are are the number of hospitalizations and number of deaths.... although... as therapeutic drugs are discovered that help reduce death, then even the number of deaths become less an indicator of how prevalent the infection is.

We just need random sampling testing for an accurate percent positive. Should have been done all along.

Gently massage the data...

Oh! Oh! I get to pretend to be a tiny bit impartial!

How many folks are getting tested and how often? We need to know that to know if this matters very much.

Boy, Dr. Pino’s motorcycle comment is showing up constantly in the dark recesses of the internet - always used in good faith, of course.
