So fun fact, I actually got firsthand experience with this today. My girlfriend is sick and we went to our primary care doctor. They didn’t even finish intake, the nurse stepped out and came back in with a mask on and told us we had to go to the hospital.

We were told they had a tent set up outside and the test would happen in your car. We get to the hospital, no tent. Call the hospital: “oh, we don’t have that, here’s our hotline number”.

Hotline number says they have a tent and the test will happen in your car. Then went back to the operator again, who then went over the symptoms my girlfriend has and contact history and then forwarded us to the county health department.

Health department goes over her symptoms and travel/contact history (she hasn’t been in contact with a confirmed case or with someone who’s traveled internationally), and then state that they don’t think she should be tested as there’s no evidence of community spread in the county.

All of this because she has a cough that we think is from a cold or pneumonia.

This is exactly why testing needs to be widespread and an exact process set up.

1. The hospital’s own hotline contradicted reality
2. The county health department disagreed with the doctor on the necessity of a test
3. The county health department was stating there’s no evidence of community spread, which I have zero f***ing clue how they can tell that if they’re not testing anyone who can’t 1000% confirm they’ve been in contact with a confirmed case
4. This kept her from being able to see a doctor for her actual health issue. They called in a prescription but they did not actually see her or diagnose her.

This is going to cost us lives. We’re in our 20’s so our risk is low, but if this happens to people with major health issues, they will not get the care that they need.
One of the issues is that you didn’t really need to go to the doctor. Not saying you did the wrong thing but for your symptoms it’s unlikely you would be gaining anything by seeking medical attention and all you really did was expose the people you came in contact with.
if you’re young and healthy, stay home unless your symptoms progress to where you’re having trouble breathing. A lot of cases can be triaged over the phone.
Colds and pneumonia have two completely different set of symptoms. A cough on its own is not too worrisome.

Someone posted a graph earlier but I’m not going back to look for it. The biggest problem is the US doesn’t have enough hospital beds and especially ventilators if the outbreak goes unchecked. Closing schools and sports leagues and theme parks isn’t going to completely prevent the spread (the cat is out of the bag), but it can possibly slow it enough and spread out the infections so that we don’t run out of space to treat people who do get seriously ill. We will get past this either way. Life will go on. The only question is how bad will the casualties be.
No offense, but says who? Have you seen some report that has taken inventory of what every hospital has and doesn't have and how they can or cannot respond?

I'd love to read that.

I will also like to add that for the elderly also consider what they come in contact with ie the mail. How long it can live a surface has been up for debate but I have been told up to three days, so I am holding my mom's mail for 3 days before dropping it off.

She’s been sick for 2 weeks, she already had a round of antibiotics that had been called in over the phone that didn’t help. So yes, she should’ve been at the doctor’s.

No. Actually if she had been at the doctor’s already and had been on abx they should have asked if she has been running a fever, having shortness of breath, had a cough with sputum, having chest pain, having back pain, feeling lightheaded. If she had any of those she should have been sent for an X-ray. If the X-ray was negative they should have called her in some cough meds with codeine, possibly a steroid pack if she’s not diabetic and an albuterol inhaler if she’s short of breath and let her know that it’s likely she’ll have a cough for 2-3 more weeks because what she has is viral. If the X-ray was positive then she should have been seen. Unfortunately too many people think antibiotics cure everything and they do nothing for viruses.

So what about when the schedule ends? I mean my husband is scheduled through the 20th... does pay end after that or does he continue to get his 40 hours?
That is a great question. I dont know beyond that and I only got that from one of the news stations (dont remember which one)

We’ve now moved on from WDW closing to more of the same song (if in a different key). Maybe it’s time to lock it up. :)

Agreed. Now that we know for sure that WDW WILL close because of the Coronavirus, it's time to stick to real-time updates and important information regarding cancellations/changes and move pass the discussion of possibilities.

The people who don't understand why probably never will at this point. No sense in going back and forth with them.

If they insist on having that discussion they can do so in the social issues/politics sub-forum.

That's a good precaution to take just in case. In general, if elderly people don't have somebody that can do what you are doing, they should make sure to wash their hands after handling mail. Something simple to do out of an abundance of caution.

The WHO relies mostly on scientific research and input from numerous scientists and other health industries. A quick google search will tell you that. The 4 items you list are excellent ideas for all to do. Hopefully by now most know to do them all. WHO has been saying that for weeks now. When they raise the level to pandemic, it’s not just a flu anymore.
Yes. It's a pandemic. What is a "pandemic"?

Pandemic is a definition of spread. Nothing more, nothing less.

Want to know when we had our last pandemic?

All the time. Ebola is still around, you know.

Here, take a look.

Or last year.

I'm sorry, I don't believe you rely upon "WHO" information. I believe you rely upon what you heard someone said about "WHO" information and refuse to look it up yourself.

Strange that we live in the "information age", yet people shy away from information.
