"Studio Movie Grill, the dine-in movie theater chain, is among the first to reopen its theaters in Florida

After being shut down for months because of the coronavirus pandemic, the company’s Sunset Walk location in Kissimmee as well as its Seminole location will reopen on Friday. A date has not yet been announced for the Studio MOvie Grill location in Tampa."

"Its theaters will operate at 50 percent capacity. All staff will be required to undergo a health check prior to starting their shift and wear face masks and other protective gear. Face masks will be optional for moviegoers, according to Studio Movie Grill’s website.

The company said each theater will have social distancing built into its seat selection. Social distancing markers will also be placed throughout common areas. Hand sanitizer stations will also be available throughout the theaters."

For fun graphs, Georgia which has been open since late April, New cases rose quickly in late May, setting record highs, but deaths never rose 2 weeks or even 6 weeks later and the never ran out of beds etc. Might be what we are seeing in Florida.

I know it's too late to change things now that things are opening. Its not too late to slow things down til cases start dropping. I have to laugh at the ones who keep saying cases are supposed to rise once things open. I live in Canada and things are opening here. Our cases have held steady around 170 the last few weeks.

I am trying to understand where people keep getting the idea of going back into lockdown. Very few are saying that. Most are saying now that cases are skyrocketing to slow down opening things and in some cases maybe take a step back. I personally don't see the issue with that. Why not be proactive? Instead let's just wait til things get really bad then do something. 🙄
Also are masks mandatory in Canada?

No they are recommended. No stores are requiring them and a lot aren't wearing them. We also are going really slow at opening things. Retail has been open for a month now but restaurants just opened with only patios. Our major theme park hasn't released a date for opening yet.

I am trying to understand where people keep getting the idea they are not slowing down. They are slowing down the opening or pausing exactly like you are saying, if things weren't going up like they are parts of Florida would be moving into stage 3 level of opening probably next week or so, they won't now. Texas is pausing their opening process. IF trends get worse they will do more.
I don’t disagree with this as long as there is follow through on pausing. I don’t see any chance they reverse back to phase 1 restrictions but a statewide mask rule isn‘t out of the question at this point. That has no impact on businesses opening or jobs lost and would go a long way towards showing an actual attempt to mitigate the risk and slow the outbreak. Just my 2 cents.

Not moving to phase 3 in FL is a no brainer at this point. As it relates to WDW some people felt that large, national theme parks should have waited for the equivalent of phase 3 (in any state) to open due to the number of people coming in from different areas and the size of crowds. Most people expected FL to be in phase 3 by the time WDW opened mid-July. It’s irrelevant now because the governor green lit those types of attractions before the whole state even left phase 1, but it explains why some people think WDW opening should be pushed back (at least until it’s deemed safe to move into phase 3). Again, not state mandated, but not everyone agrees with what should be open when.

Let’s hope so. Nobody wants to see more (any) deaths. Weren’t part of the uptick in cases in May due to a large increase in testing? I haven’t followed GA as closely but where I am and also in FL May was a big ramp up in testing.

I thought some were adamantly saying more testing is not the reason for more cases

Back in May there was a major ramp up in testing in FL. It’s well documented and easy to see on the dashboard. Testing in FL has been relatively flat week over week in June. So back in May when cases were increasing but so was testing percent positive was actually dropping. Today thats not the case. With testing relatively flat week over week and large increases in cases the percent positive has gone way up.

Seems like a resounding endorsement for not wearing masks, Canada is doing great with the virus and don't require masks just recommends them.

Respective state's dashboards, some have them some don't
The New York Times has a good collection of graphs

States: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html#states (scroll around, there's a ton of info here)

And, specifically, Florida: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/florida-coronavirus-cases.html

The following is a bit slow and does not show the same level of detail, but from what I read is created by the woman who was fired by the state of florida for refusing to change info she was posting to make the state look better.

Keep an eye on the number of ICU beds.

Same thing a goal of no one getting the Coronavirus is nice, but realistically history shows that won't happen soon even with a vaccine.
Most agree that no cases isn't realistic but having low cases is realistic. Low numbers like where I live is what they should strive for. Ontario Canada has had around 170 new cases a day for the past few weeks. They have been testing over 23000 people a day. That's why I struggle to understand how so many think these high cases numbers are ok.

Not denying that. Just referencing the retorts from some earlier
