So at what point does Disney make the decision to push back reopening?

These numbers get worse everyday. We are about 3 weeks away from opening.

You have to imagine this was exactly the kind of situation that Disney was afraid of in the first place. Health and safety debates aside, the negative national press from these numbers are going to absolutely kill any possibility of significant tourism recovery... and there doesn’t look like there’s a possibility of that narrative changing for the better in the next month.

I can see the headlines now : " Amidst record coronavirus numbers, Disney soldiers on and opens park"

@xdan0920 what's so funny about what I said? A lot of people have been finding ways to make the numbers look better. I'm guessing you're one of them in thinking things aren't that bad and we just to need to move on.

False positives happen but not at that rate, prison testing can increase numbers but not as much. Like I said earlier, if trends continue at this rate Florida could be in deep trouble by next week. Unfortunately, due to the lag with this virus, it may be too late by next week. I really hope I’m wrong, but the numbers look terrible, and with the population mix things can get bad in a hurry. With numbers like this, even if the parks were open I would have still canceled my trip that was supposed to occur Tuesday.
True. False negatives are far more common, especially when tested in people who have yet to develop symptoms.

Because he can't use his words. They're not worth the effort since this is all bonkers anyway.

Every day it gets worse and worse with how many find ways to make the numbers look good. I just have to ask is why does so many want to downplay it?

I'm not saying to back to a lockdown but where the cases are rising they need to put in stricter social distancing measures. Mandatory masks inside businesses and limit capacity as well. If you have to start fining people for noe complying then so be it. Where I live they have fined people $800 for not complying and have handed out over 900 tickets. By doing that people have been mostly following the rules.

I am not trying to downplay the numbers I am only reporting that in some of the numbers false positives are counted in the positive total. Yes do we have more cases, Yes we had 3 new cases in Central Florida (1 in Polk County, 1 in Volusia, and one in Seminole County).

When you have a ton of folks in a bar inside not wearing masks what do you think is going to happen.

I have been saying from the start Yes we need to re-open but we can also re-open more safely I still say masks need to be mandatory if you are going to be out in public. If you are going to fly on an airplane you are required to have a mask, at Disney I mean it's just simple wear a mask.

The governor is not going to shut down the state again, Disney can open safely and they will we will have to live with the restrictions that Disney is putting into place. If people would be a little smarter take the precautions we would be doing allot better than we are now.

Just wait until the Republican convention comes to Jacksonville and you put 30-40k people indoors see how that turns out.

The sad thing in all of this is it feels like the governor cares more about getting his tourism tax money then about doing the right thing. Which is getting Covid-19 under control. They need to have had more restrictions in place as things open. Here in Ontario Canada, restaurants can open but only patios, no indoor seating.

All these companies and events are advertising that they are not responsible if one contacts covid.

I am all for testing, I am all for social distancing, all of this can be achieved at the same time we can re-open the economy Yes Disney can re-open it can re-open safely if we ALL practice properly but the # 1 way to do that is EVERYONE needs to be wearing a mask to limit the spread.

I agree with 1 thing we need to open the economy we cannot keep Florida closed, you cannot keep the parks closed for the next 2,6,12 months. Our state will not survive the economy cannot survive. You have 10's of thousands of folks still not getting unemployment funds from the state and the government they have NO Money coming in.

We are checking in next week to OKW we have our masks, our hand sanitizer, gloves if needed we will be at the pool and one person (myself) picking up the food as I have been since this thing started). But when I go to Publix and less than half the folks are not wearing gloves, or I go to Wawa or 7-11 and nobody is wearing a mask yes it’s going to spread more easily. If we take the necessary precautions we can limit the amount of spread. The problem is you have folks who do not believe the virus is real so they will never take the precautions. I work with a person like that they never wear a mask when they go out he says.

How can they be responsible, as it is a person's choice as to where to go. If you aren't comfortable going someplace, then don't go, but if you do, you take the chance that you can get sick.
While true, businesses should put all the social distancing measures needed to lower the risk of catching the virus.

Yep, its not going to get any better anytime soon either. :(

But again, there seems to be a higher # of cases, but a low # of deaths, they are going in the opposite direction per this FL Dashboard

Looks like alot of cases in the Miami and Tampa area both which hosted big protest. I don't think this uptick in cases is the result of theme parks being open or people enjoying the beach.

Lawsuits don’t really work that way. Businesses are responsible to provide a safe environment for customers even if the customers don’t care. There are a number of examples of people doing something that was obviously dumb and still suing someone over it. Most recently the guy who dropped his grandkid out the window of a cruise ship and then blamed the cruise line for having windows. I doubt a lawsuit against Disney over Covid would pay out but who knows what a jury would decide. The one area they have to be more careful about is employees. Disney needs to ensure that employees are given all safety equipment and policies are set to ensure safety. It’s much easier to prove there was an unsafe work environment. See meat packing plants with outbreaks.

Does it really matte where it comes from. Either way cases are rising so there should be concern. The governor should be putting in more strict social distancing measures. Its a shame it won't happen as tourism money is more important.

Were those people in the bar in Jacksonville stopping there for a drink post protest? ;););)

The protests will absolutely lead to more cases and more spread. There’s no doubt about that. I still don’t think that means every new case is from protests. I know some people are fixated on that and it’s a narrative being heavily pushed in certain circles, but just because a bunch of people protested and that resulted in a bunch of new cases doesn‘t mean everyone should just do whatever they want now.

Here's why the idea the the increases in Florida numbers is simply a result of bad methodology is ludicrous:

1. The Florida governance doesn't want to look bad. No administration does. So, if the numbers are increasing because of bad protocols, that administration would move heaven and earth to fix whatever is inflating the numbers so they look good. So, doesn't anyone think that if the numbers were artificially inflated, the governor would have done something about it and have it recalibrated?

2. Even if there's a wonky protocol inflating the the numbers, it's still inflating more so than before. Whatever methodology they're using is the methodology that's been producing increasing numbers. This week's wonky methodology shows a lot more infections than the wonky methodology of the previous week... but it's the same methodology showing an increase. If they switched to the 'correct methodology' the curve would be lower... but still rising.
