Check out my website below. CSR is my favorite moderate resort. Great pool, terrific transportation and so much more.
The amenities of this resort are nice. But, if you are accustomed to staying in a deluxe (which you might be by the sounds of it? (i.e., saving $1200)), you may be disappointed? The big thing for us was the walking distance. We were in the Ranchos and boy was it a long walk to the lobby/cafeteria. If I stayed there again, I would insist on being in the Cabanas - close proximity to pool and main lobby/cafeteria. The only problem I can see with the Cabanas is you would be the 3rd of 4 stops on the bus and may not get a seat. But, otherwise, the proximity is much better. If you are concerned about getting the best bus seat, then stay in the Casitas - first ones on and firsts ones off. But, you are further from the main pool then. It is a nice resort though - the rooms are nice. It was just a long walk for us between the Ranchos and cafeteria when our little one needed a milk at night at the end of an already exhausting day.
It's a very pretty place, nice landscaping, topiaries, fountains and buildings, most of which you can see online, but which are prettier in person. Water views are very pleasant. It's a little romantic at night. Pool is fine...but they all are. The lobby is well themed, the gift shop is a good one as Disney gift shops go these days.
The food court requires that you wait to be seated and there is a person who brings your silverware and drinks. I think you're supposed to tip them. In addition to the possible tipping thing, they charge you a fee to eat in the food court. I've been told that fee includes a tip for the drink guy and I've been told it doesn't, so I don't know what the truth is there. All together, it's a lot of extra money to pay for the privilege of eating in a food court. IMO, anyway.
The rooms have nice, thick, wooden doors to slide closed near the sink area for dressing and such. Much better than a curtain. IMO, the rooms were more fun and had better theme going on before the refurb. But they are still nice enough, just a little more boring.
If you like to run or walk, CSR is not a bad place to do it. If you hate to walk, there are little golf carty things riding around that I've seen people hop on for a ride. I don't mind the walk and have never done that.
Hope you enjoy!
They charge you a fee. It's a percentage thing, like ten or fifteen percent of whatever you bought. What do you mean by they charge you a fee to eat at the food court? Isnt it just a quick service like the rest? We are staying there in December for the first time so any input would be helpful. Thanks!

When you sit down, they hand you a card and when you go to the different stations, they stamp the card for you with whatever you bought. Then you sit and eat. A person brings and (if you aren't unlucky) refills your drink. When you're done, you take your card to a register to pay for everything and they add on a fee.
I don't like the fee (who would?). Like I said, I've been told that part of it goes to the guy who brings your silverware and drink. I've also been told it doesn't. So I don't know if the silverware/drink guy is expecting a tip or what. It's annoying.
It's no better than any other food court, just more complicated and expensive.
ETA: I don't know anything about dining plans. They may waive the fee for DP people. I do know that not everything is on the DPs because I once spent like five minutes trying to get an employee to give me a dessert that wasn't on the dining plan. She kept refusing to give it to me. I kept saying I wasn't on any plan. Someone else finally smiled at me and got it out for me. I was very polite, but I was about to lose it, lol.
You can avoid the fee by taking your stuff to go or eating outside, so I assume the fee is for sitting down in the food court. Eating outside is a good option when it isn't hot, cold, rainy or Love Buggy.
Our last trip we stayed at CSR. We stayed in Casitas building 4. We got the first floor. It was a good location. Not to far from the main building. The bus stop was right out behind our building and we was the first to be picked up and dropped off. The pool was a little walk to get to. The theming was nice. The different layouts of the other building sets was pretty nice, and the pool area was nice. It has the longest water slide on resort properties. One thing that was good and bad at the same time was that there was a convention going on the first couple of days we was there. What was bad about it was after they got done with the convention these people liked to drink and stay up half the night. The good about it was they paid for golf carts to transport people around the resort. But at the same time our building was close enough to not have to use that much but it was nice for going to the pool area though. So over all we would go back to this resort.
