I have stayed at Coronado Springs two times and Port Orleans about four or more times. I prefer Port Orleans atmosphere although Coronado Springs has a better main pool in my opinion. I just feel more relaxed at Port Orleans because it seems quiet to me. We just stayed at Coronado Springs over Memorial Day weekend and the quiet pools were very quiet and relaxing. The Maya Grill breakfast buffet was not so good in my opinion, it was very simple. I'm not bashing Coronado Springs by any means but I just prefer Port Orleans. Check out allearsnet.com for a very detailed report and pictures of the rooms etc. Have a wonderful time.

I've stayed at Coronado Springs a few times, and have enjoyed it each time.

I love the view over the lake at night with the lights from the path and the other buildings reflecting off the water. It's well themed and the rooms are comfortable.

It's worth staying there. I enjoy Dixie...er...Port Orleans Riverside a little bit more I think, but CS is a close second choice for me.

I like to have different experiences as often as possible, so if you're like me - go for it!

CS opinion

I'll post my disclaimer right up front: I have never stayed at Coronado Springs, but....

I attended a week long conference that was at CS, so I did spend several hours a day at the resort. I have stayed at POR twice in the last 3 years. My thoughts:

1) the beds are basically the same as they are both moderate resorts. They are double beds that are fairly comfortable for my 145 lb. frame. The only difference will be theming.

2) CS is HUGE. You either pick a room near the pool, or one near El Centro (the registration, food court, merchandise store area). They are approximately 180 degrees apart (ok, maybe more like 150) and there is a lake between them around which the rooms are cloistered. I walked the path around the lake every day at lunch and at breaks and it took me about 10 minutes walking at a very brisk pace to circumnavigate the lake.

3) I liked each of the three themed room areas (Castias, Cabanas, Ranchos), especially the fountains and foliage in the room areas.

4) There isn't a lot of shade at this resort. The trees are smallish and unless in your room or in one of the little courtyards around your room area, you are in direct sun. In the middle of summer, this could be grueling.

5) The main pool at CS is better themed than the one at POR.

6) The food court has some pretty good selections of food, although there is a service charge for all food purchases. The food was also kind of pricey but I hear the portions are pretty large. (I didn't eat here cause the conference provided a meal).

7) I didn't like the fact that there were so many conference people around the El Centro area. This kind of took away from the Disney magic for me. This is clearly my personal opinion but when I go on vacation, work is the last thing on my mind. I don't want to see everyone dressed in business casual talking on their cell phone when I'm at the World.

8) The parking lot is way in the back and quite a hike to get to your room (unless you are staying in a room near the parking lot, of course). Again, its a minimum 5 minute + walk from the parking lot area to El Centro.

9) CS is fairly close to MGM and Epcot (approximate 7-10 min drive depending on traffic volume and lights), a bit farther to MK and AK (it seemed furthest to AK to me, though it might be physically closer to AK than MK). Its really close to Blizzard Beach.

I hope this helps. I'm sure you would enjoy CS - your at Disney World! :sohappy:

CSR is our resort of choice and that is after staying at the Poly, CR, WL, AKL, POFQ and POR - It is spread out but with the internal shuttle and the bus stops you really never have to walk anywhere if you don't want to. Have stayed when there have been conventions and have never been bothered by them. My husband and daughter couldn't get rooms at CSR for their May stay and stayed at POR and said the busses were awful. Shared buses with POFQ and by the time the busses got to POR they were full. CSR has dedicated buses and actually has less rooms than POR. All that said, POR is a nice resort and it depends on your own personal likes. Where ever you stay I hope you have a great trip!

Stayed at CS one time, it's a nice hotel, not quite on the top of my list to stay in again though.

Major Pros: nice pool, great theme, good rooms

Major cons: extreme walking distance to pool / lobby, and very few choices for food. Though the Pepper Market is good, it's also expensive.

I've stayed at CSR twice and had a good experience both times. It didn't really bother me too much that the resort is so big, we enjoyed walking around it. Plus, the internal bus service worked great for us. We had a king bed room both times and it was very clean and comfortable. Mousekeeping was also excellent.

The only thing that really disappointed me was Pepper Market (food court). I have never stayed at Port Orleans, but compared to Caribbean Beach, which I have stayed at, the food court isn't good. CBR's food court was much better, IMHO. I thought the gift shop was better at CSR though.

CSR is our families favorite mod. It is large, not nearly as large as CB, but it has internal transportation that will take you anywhere in the resort. Walking from the farthest building out (The Ranchos) to the main building (El Centro) only takes about 8 minutes -- and I don't pep step I meander -- and it is really a beautiful walk, especially i the evening when the lights are on. The food court is great, the largest selection in any food court on property including the values. The Maya Grill also has a great menu. The pool is huge and is rated as one of the best pools on property. There is also a playground (Dig Site), arcade, lounge, and snackbar at the pool. The main building has a second arcade. Finally the rooms are what you would expect in a moderate hotel. Slightly smaller than the rooms a CB and without a second sink but very nice and comfy. The fact that it is a convention resort has never bothered us. We have been there when the hotel is at capacity but the pool and busses are rarely crowded bacause everyone is attending meetings. Great resort, much better than CB, and slightly better than PO. Actually, PO's only major draw for us is the ability to take a boat to DTD.

The thing I didn't care for at CS is the Peppermill foodcourt and the sit down restaurant has a breakfast buffet that is only so-so. I also prefer not to see business people on my vacation because they can be annoying as they aren't on vacation.

My .02 having stayed there about half a dozen times it is our favorite resort. It has a good central location. The transportation is the best out of ANY resort. No other resort can come close to how well the busses operate there, plus when its time to leave the park you dont have to battle 300 other people to get to your bus and rarely have to stand for the ride home.

People love to bring up the gratuity at the food court but you just take your food to go and thats the end of that. Besides that it has great food and a great variety and i never had a bad meal there. Never had dinner at the maya grill but i had breakfast and it is a good breakfast buffet for the price.

I just stayed at CSR for the second time. I've stayed at POR many times. CSR really impressed me this time. As mentioned before, the resort is big, but there is an internal bus system. Also, when we were there there were CM's driving golf carts from the buildings to the Pepper Market and they would give guests rides. They'd also drive you back to your room too. I got to ride in the golf cart 3 times. Our room was in Building 8A. We were close to the main pool, and only steps away from the Bus Stop. The buses were never completely full and everytime we left a park at closing there was always a Coronado bus waiting for us. :sohappy:

The food court had a great selection of food. There is a 10% service charge but if you get the food To Go, then the service charge is waived.

Overall, it's a beautiful resort. It seemed quiet, despite being Memorial Day weekend. The buses ran great, and the Pepper Market had great food. The only downside is that the rooms have only 1 sink, whereas POR has 2 sinks. I will definitely be staying there again.

is coronado springs the only place with a 10% service charge on food..is it just ont he food court or in the mayan grill / gift shops as well? seems like it would be more expensive over all to stay here.. it dosnt really sound like alot right now but when we work out the meals we will be eating there it adds up and is kind of a waste of money that could be spent on other things since we could get the same amount of food at pofq/pors/cbr.. right????

Yes it is the only place with a service charge but as mentioned if you take your food to go they dont charge you. The service charge is only at the pepper market but the pepper market is some great food.
