I still think we'll see an increase in traditional room capacity. Seeing as how Iger said that "it would be very smart to add more rooms," I suspect that would make sense. Add in the fact this is a convention Resort and all the pieces fit together.

Make the convention Resort that much more attractive and versatile and collect an ever growing market for rooms. Win win.

I wouldn't be shocked if we saw additional DVC, assuming a two year time frame it would lineup with traditional DVC announcements. I would be surprised if we saw no new rooms to offset the DVC add on.

The Resort needs greater balance between mid tier capacity and time share, not less.

I also hope they treat the Resort well. It's one of the greats!

Enclosed hallways at moderates would be nice. My wife and I both have a thing about staying at hotels with exterior access doors...not a fan! Especially if I'm paying $160-250 a night. Can't imagine we are alone on that.

Some people like them, but yeah, I agree. Business travelers expect enclosed hallways for sure

The expansion at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort will include a new 15-story tower that will add 500 rooms, featuring suites and concierge level services. The resort will also refurbish its current resort rooms and transform its landscape with floating gardens and an island oasis that connects the resort through a series of bridges.

The new tower overlooking Lago Dorado, the resort’s centerpiece lake, will allow guests to experience something truly unique, rooftop dining with panoramic views of popular nighttime fireworks from nearby Disney theme parks.

Update 2: I think I'm souring on this change. Initially some of the shock value got me excited. I'm now entirely less enthused about this. This will blow the scale of the Resort and tower (literally) over the the other Resort rooms. The whole thing somewhat evokes the place making, but is not meant to really transport you.

This is a building with Coronado Springs garnish, not a building that supports Coronado Springs. Just after a little reflection. Reminds of Vegas.

So long as they're not being sneaky, there's going to be 500 new hotel rooms. Nothing specifying DVC, but I doubt they'd want to announce that with Wilderness Lodge preparing to come online.

This distracts us from the Gondolas!

Edit: On reading this over again, I wouldn't be shocked if the DVC goes to Caribbean Beach, and the new rooms are here. That way you keep convention crowds and timeshare families separate. Both Resorts getting DVC by 2019 seems like a stretch that could result in a glut of inventory and unclear marketing.

There's definitely much much more to these projects that they haven't told us. I do like the sound of the walkways making Resort travel easier.

I wonder if they'll redo the other buildings, changing them from "motel" style to "hotel" style. It would fit the new theme better in my opinion. Regardless, exciting news for both resorts.
