Headed down to Disney in May 2017, and wanted to know what people would recommend between Coronado or Port Orleans? Pros/Cons?

Also does Disney offer any discounts this time of year?

Personally I would go with either of the port Orleans resorts. Huge advantage having the boat to disney springs and between both resorts. To me, the quick service at both port Orleans resorts are better than coronado and I also think the bus system is better/faster at port Orleans. Don't get me wrong ... Coronado is beautiful and the pool is way better than both port orleans resorts but personally I like the whole feel of the Orleans resorts better.

Now for the discount part ... YES disney does release a spring discount BUT it's not very often that they include port Orleans, sometimes they will include port orleans but it will be a lesser discount percentage than the other mods, which may give you something to think about.

Coronado is slightly more upscale being a convention resort. It has a health club, spa and salon. Also the rooms have a sliding door instead of curtain between the room and bathroom. Port Orleans advantage is that it is 2 resorts within walking distance that have boat access to Disney Springs. My preference in moderate hotels is Port Orleans French Quarter. It's layout is smaller and it's food court has beignets. If you want sit down dining it's a short walk to Riverside or a boat ride to DS. That is probably the biggest perk for Port Orleans, boats can get to DS so much faster than the busses and it's an enjoyable ride.
Beyond the look and feel of the resorts, choose Port Orleans for Disney Springs, Coronado Springs for health club, salon and spa.

Do you know what type of discounts disney has done in the past? Is Cornado on it?

Which Port Orleans? There are stark differences in size, amenities, and transportation between French Quarter and Riverside. I have stayed at all 3 - CSR, PO:FQ, and PO:R (family for the first two and only the wife for Riverside though).

Which one do you recommend? I have never stayed at either of them

Between the two different Port Orleans, I'm definitely in the French Quarter camp. It's a much smaller resort, and there is only a single bus stop for the entirety (which makes transportation really nice). The kids really like the Mardi Gras theme for the resort main areas and the pools. One drawback is dining - there isn't much selection onsite. We do most of our dining in the parks, however, so at the time that wasn't as big of an issue. When we stayed at Riverside, it was still called Dixie Landings, so I have a little dated view of that resort. It's just overall larger, with a more bayou themes. As a family we stayed at French Quarter for two annual trips (2012 and 2013). French Quarter also has a more 'romantic' feel (according to my wife) if that is something you are wanting to experience. Both have the boat transportation options to Disney Springs/Downtown Disney.

Great site to get info and photos to help in your decision: http://www.portorleans.org/

For the past two years (2014 and 2015), the family annual trips have been to Coronado Springs. This was sort of an upgrade for us since we did the business class rooms, which are larger and are located right beside the main plaza. The kids really love the resort theme and the pool, and the dining options are better. The resort, however is much much much larger than Port Orleans. Transportation can be a problem considering there are 4 bus stops (like Riverside) and getting to El Centro (main plaza, dining) can be a hike if you get placed into one of further out locations within the site.

From my opinion though, you can't really go wrong with any of those 3 choices. It all depends on what you are looking for in the resort.

Last year they released discounts for spring stay in January... Coronado is always included in the discount which is 20 or 25% off I believe... I don't think that port orleans was included but sometimes they will allow a 5 - 15% discount depending on the offer, sometimes they allow discounts for riverside but not french quarter. You can always book your trip now @ full price and they can apply any discount once released or switch to the more cost effective resort upon availability.

Don't quote me on the exact discount info and percentages @sxeensweet would be the one who could confirm if I'm right lol

Heres a link for a website that provides Disney's historical discounts.

You don't need me you're learning and you were right on the money! Haha! The link to Mousesavers is the best resource to see the past historical offers at any given time of year. I would if advised the same. I don't travel to Disney in the spring usually but those sound right from the offers I have seen each year for the Spring etc. ;)

Yes. ;) They're both nice resorts. I would probably pick PO over Coronado just for the ability to take a boat to DS.

great resorts, French quarter is nice and romantic, riverside have some beautiful views and Coronado has a great main pool. if we wer to choose to stay at any again it would probably be French quarter as we found it a little quieter than the others,

CSR is our favorite. Love the grounds, main pool and non-shared transportation. CSR also offers business class with access to the Coconino Lounge. which is a big plus for us. You get drinks and snack at night and continental breakfast in the morning. Also, the best building location at the resort

@Buzz2001 :) hi! For my upcoming trip I may have to switch from POR to CSR the only thing available for my dates is a standard room.... should I be worried that the resort will be overly full? I don't mind the walk to the main buildings but will I be far from a bus stop?

POFQ is my favourite resort so I'll have to recommend that, my parents have stayed at CSR and enjoyed it, they still prefer POFQ though.

You can not go wrong with either. If I had to choose I would pick PO. Mainly because Coronado has a weird food court (it is kind of a table service and you leave tips).

OP, we have stayed at both. CS once, and POR 4 times so far. We have POR booked for November this year, and we usually go yearly.
CS is a beautiful resort, don't get me wrong, and the rooms are clean and bright. I don't know if the rooms seem that way because it is a convention hotel? The grounds in the Casitas, where we stayed in bldg. #3, were lush and tropical. The buses were great, no problems. However, we asked to be close to the main bldg., and the Casitas are the closest and still a long way, for us, to walk. We never ventured to the main pool because it was way over on the opposite side of the lake, but we are not pool people. I hear it is a great pool, though.
We did not like the Pepper Market food court at all, but this was several years ago. Maybe they have improved their system by now, but we did not like it at all, the food or the service or the difficult confusing pay system. I would hope it is better now.?

As far as POR, we love it. It is our home resort. We stay in AB and love the lush, tropical pathways, plants, and quiet pools. We always stay close to the Mill, and it works out. A lot of people complain about the buses at POR, but we have never had a problem with them and we have been here many times. They can get crowded, but so can a lot of other buses.
We love the Mill quick service food court. The selections are great, esp make your own pasta bowl and salad bowl. I know other people come to POR from other resorts just to eat these. Love the décor and ambience. I guess we like everything about POR and won't ever change. We also take the boat to DS at least twice each visit. What a relaxing ride down the river.

I guess it boils down to what type of resort you want. CS is more convention-like and POR is more laid back. We have never had any problems with conventions at CS and never noticed the business people, so that was not a problem. Hope you have a great vacation, whichever you decide.

We just returned from a week at CS and loved everything about it. The Pepper Market is now just like any other Moderate resort QS area. We only ate in the Pepper Market on our last day. Our room was in the Ranchos section, not too far from the main pool, closer to a quiet pool and across the parking lot from the bus stop. We were in building 7A. The pool bar also serves breakfast and lunch and you can fill your resort mug there. I prefer CS over PO.

this makes me happy to hear! I had to change the dates of my original trip to POR and it wasn't available to I'm switching to Coronado. At first I was a little disappointed but now I'm getting excited :)

Just look at it as a new adventure. We truly enjoyed everything about the resort. Here's another bonus; if you walk down to the lagoon area about 8:30 you can see a fireworks show, I think it's from HS but could be from Epcot.

Just thought I'd give my two cents. I've stayed at the Coronado and Port Orleans Riverside. Both are little gems, but I pick Coronado for the win because its simply a gorgeous resort that has a more unique flavor than POR. Its Southwestern theme seems a little more exotic and festive, oddly enough, than POR's Southern feel. But I don't think you'd be unhappy with either one. I think they're both great for the price.
