Coronado or Port Orleans

Given my choice POR all the way staying at Coronado I felt like I was at a usual hotel and not a resort feel. It's a nice place but we prefer the feel of POR.

Do you know what type of discounts disney has done in the past? Is Cornado on it?
After the way discounts were released for my trip..meaning- they weren't. I'd choose where you are most comfortable without a discount, and switch if a discount gets released. :).

We stayed at both Coronado and Port Orleans French Quarter during our honeymoon in August and fell in love with POFQ immediately. Compact resort layout, accessible transportation, impeccable theming. CSR is well-themed as well, but much larger. And while I did enjoy the jogging route around Lago Dorado at CSR, the Port Orleans resorts are connected by a great walking/running trail as well.

Out of Riverside, French Quarter, and CSR, which resort do you prefer over Christmas? I've visited CSR during Thanksgiving for a few days but that was in 2008. I remember the pretty Christmas tree in the lobby, but that is about it.

Thats about all you get at a moderate resort. the deluxe resorts go all out with the holiday decor but the mods have a few reefs a christmas tree and thats about it

Aside from the decorations, I guess I was wondering about transportation, etc...I know CSR won't have a shared bus, so was just trying to decide from a logistical standpoint.

Thanks! :)

You can not go wrong with either. If I had to choose I would pick PO. Mainly because Coronado has a weird food court (it is kind of a table service and you leave tips).

Did I miss that? We just stayed there and ate a few times at the food court...Pepper Market. no tips needed there. There is a table service restaurant Maya Grill. That looked fancier. Didn't eat there. Most likely tips to be left at that place.

Pepper Market used to have the odd arrangement described by the previous poster (you'd be seated by servers and served drinks by them, even though you'd be wandering around picking up your food yourself with stampy-card in hand, and a 10% tip was added to your bill), but you are right -- from what I understand, the procedures changed around 2013 and it now operates more like a standard CS (people get their own drinks and seating, no tips required).

You are correct. Up until 2014 you still had the card to get food and you payed when you left the restaurant. Late 2014 or early 2015 the cash registers were moved to in front of the food and the process was the same as any other quick service.

I an sorry for the misinformation. We were last there 3 years ago. I never seen anything about changes to the pepper market.

No worries. I didn't know of changes either until another member of the forum said it was a place where tips were left and now it isn't. Changes happen all the time. Its hard to keep up !!! LOL :)

I stayed at Port Orleans this past February and loved it. Taking the boat to Disney Springs is so much better than the bus. I never stayed at Coronado, so I can't judge on that one.

In my experience, the buses are the difference. The rooms and grounds are great at both. If you like spending a VERY LONG TIME waiting for buses, then POR. CSR buses are quick, constant and never an issue. My stay at POR wasted about an entire day for bus waiting.

I have had completely different experiences while staying at POR with the much maligned buses! We have stayed at POR 5 times over the recent years, and have not waited for more than 10 to 15 minutes for a bus. The average time was 10 minutes. The only time we waited over 30 minutes was for a bus back from HS late at night and for a bus back from AK one time. So, I just wanted to point out that because some have bad experiences with the buses, there are others who have had no problem. Why? don't know, but luck of the draw I suppose:)

Stayed at POR during the summer last year and had mixed fealings about the buses there. Some days it was fine others I waited 40 minutes to an hour for one. I found out later that if a bus fills up it won't make the last few stops. Best advice is not to use the bus station at the lobby.

My experience, when buses weren't shared with POFQ, at MK we watched 3 buses show up for POFQ loading 2-8 people on each before a POR bus came. I jumped on POFQ bus #4 before a POR bus showed up. We walked from POFQ to our room, dropped stuff off, changed to swimsuits, walked to the drink station, filled up, and ran into the people that were behind us in line waiting for the POR bus. They said 2 more buses showed of for POFQ before the bus showed for POR. When we did take a bus, they were so packed coming back because they were so slow, it took forever to unload people, then load people that had been waiting to get picked up forever, and then moving to the next stop to do the same thing. People may have a different experience, but when the bus system cost you an entire day of a 7 day trip for waiting, there is a problem.

At AK, we ran into the same thing. Bus after bus went to all other resorts. On the opposite side of the POR stop was a Poly bus stop. We had been waiting about 15 minutes when the POR bus showed up, stopped, loaded us, and waited a few minutes for others. Then, a husband, wife, 2 kids show up at the Poly stop. The man talks to the guy in the little building there at the end. He comes on our bus and tells us we need to get off because this bus was routing to the Poly instead. We get forced off, the man, wife, and 2 kids get loaded, and off the bus goes with 4 people on it. There were about 30 of us already on the bus. Off we wait and are insured the next bus was ours. Nope!!! A Poly bus shows up 5 minutes later. Sits there with no one to load, and then leaves. 25 minutes later a POR bus shows up but since there was a delay, they loaded with POFQ first (!!!). POFQ fills the bus and it leaves. Another 15 minutes and we finally get a bus. Most people that had been waiting forever didn't get on because 2 ECVs show up and load their parties.

Go through 1 or 2 of these experiences on a single trip and see how good the system is. We went through it 5 times at POR.
