My Family and I are deciding between the Coronado and the Port Orleans-Riverside for our trip next year. Can anyone tell me which one is better?

I like both, but my heart is with Riverside. I love the atmosphere. It's nice to walk to the pool and the cafeteria thing (forget what it's called :hammer: ) I love the "marketplace" type atmosphere where you can get food, and the pool is awesome. Coronado is more hotely. If i remember it's buildings have many floors, whereas Riverside has two in most places. I hated the "cafeteria" and the pool was eh...My sister liked it, but it wasn't my favorite. We leave a week from Tuesday for Riverside so....

Whatever you decide, HAVE FUN!!!

Never stayed at Coronado, but have not heard raving things about it either. We LOVED Riverside and will stay there again. Food court was good and we were able to stay close to the pools and stuff (ask for Building 14 or 15). Coronado is very spread out.

POR is definately your best bet for an 8 yr. old. I have 2 girls who are now 16 and soon to be 11 and they have stayed there numerous times and love it. They have a huge playground and one of the largest arcades on property. POR is my families favorite resort hands down. We have stayed at almost every resort and we always go back to POR from time to time because they love it so much.

The atmosphere and superb theming are what I like most about the resort. Walking through the tree lined paths that have different leaf prints incorporated throughout. Hearing the cajun(zydeco?) music softly playing throughout the resort.

You cannot go wrong with this resort. Just ask the many faithful POR lovers on these forums.

I was dissapointed with Riverside....

The food court is ok...and resort well themed...but if your placed in Alligator Bayou section it can be a long walk to the food court or pool...we stayed there in May of 2002....the trees and plants seemed to make the resort feel even hotter and the pathways were always dirty....the pool was load and crowded...and there was constant dirt and snad in the water...

I've never stayed at Coronado Springs...but I have been looking into it more...it has one of the Largest pools and slide on property...3 completeley different themes....and more open...the food court is a pain...from what I hear....The resort is spread out...so you would have to request a room close to the Food court...or pool...

If you are still intrested in CS check out this site...

POR is a great resort...any Disney resort is great...but it's definatley what you prefer...both have a laid back style...both have water sports and are surrounding a lake.....

hehe, couldn't have said it better myself :animwink:

Coronado - largest pool and jacuzzi on WDW property
Coronado - VERY quiet
Coronado - pool is always empty

(I like Coronado) but that's just me...it's all in what you're looking for

I have been to both, go with Riverside. Coronado Springs is beautiful, but it is just as spread out as Riverside is if you get in a bad location. The atmosphere is better at Riverside, especially for a family. Coronado Springs with their convention center attracts a lot of suits, and that was a low point of my vacation last year was seeing business people everywhere talking on their cell phones spitting out corporate lingo.

i disagree with a few people. the pool at coronado is ehough to make you 8 year old stare with amazment. im 23 it had the same effect on me. i have stayed at both, twice at port orleans and 3 times a coronado and i found the port orleans rooms a little dirtier. coronado's busses moved alot faster because theres opnly 4 stops when port orleans riverside has 4 and it also goes to french quarter, its a good 10 minutes just to leave the resorts or its 10 minutes before you can get off the bus on the way back. the rooms at coronado seem a bit cleaner too, the sir conditioning at our room at port orleans had mildew caked on it BOTH times, it made my girlfriend a little ill actually. well you have my vote whichever you coose HAVE FUN!!!

I've stayed at POR twice and POFQ once. I didn't like Riverside very much. Both times I found it extremely crowded and I didn't care for the theming. Cafeteria was a madhouse. As for FQ, I found it to be one of the more relaxing resorts on the property. Was never too crowded and felt more relaxed. As for Coronado, I haven't stayed there but spent the day and I loved the property and esp. the pool.

But since you have an 8 yr. old I would suggest either FQ or Riverside. But if you hate the crowds I'd suggest FQ. Kids love the pool and the only thing worthwhile at riverside is the pool which gets extremely crowded. Coronado despite the fact kids will love the pool it is a very adult atmosphere. I spent the whole day at the pool there and saw only one kid. I don't think your child would enjoy that as much.

I've never stayed at Coronado Springs but am this year. I think Port Orleans Riverside is just fabulous the theme is great, if you like the look of Bayou country which I love. (go figure my faviorate band is CCR)

ask for something close to the main building or really close to a bus stop and youll love it. i had a good time just walking around the resort. the plants and rock formations are great.

I've been to both POR and Coronado, and it's no contest. POR wins hands down. POR is relaxing and quiet, with easy access to the ammenities. The CM's were some of the friendliest I've met at a resort. Your 8 year old will love "Old Man Island".
As other posts suggest, the POR food court has a bit more chaos, but in all fairness it's a MUCH better food court. I found the Peppermill food court both over-priced and lower quality. THe service was far below Disney standards, even considering the format.
As a Disney-holic, I would have to say that the "magic" just didt live at Coronado for me. the CM's weren't very friendly, and the theming wasn't as enveloping. It also didn't help that one of those electric, beeping, golf carts ran past my room morning, noon, and heaven help me, all night! I won't go back to Coronado, but can't wait to get back to POR.

Port Orleans !

You will love Port Orleans-it's really beautiful. Food court is great! Six (6) different pools. Water taxis to Downtown Disney. Well, I could go on and on.

Riverside is wonderfull! Peacefull, beautiful, could be romantic and still fun for kids and kids at heart. The boat ride to Downtown Disney was great. The pools are fun and the fishing hole is a fun idea for kids. I will be going back. (someday)
