CoP to b demolished

I totally agree with you. I think one of the major problems with WDW is that they are adding too many E-Rides. Now don't get me wrong, I love a good upside down rollercoaster, or freefall ride, as much as the next guy... but I don't think they belong in Disney. Sure a few should be in there, but I don't think they should be tearing down old, classical attractions just because IOA has a new roller coaster. IOA, Universal, Six Flags attract and entirely different audience than Disney does... and no matter how many "the world's fastest, highest, rides" they add, they will never, ever come close to Disney.

I do admit that MK could use another E-Ride, but why demolish a ride like COP to make room for it.... last I check, the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea site was empty. Also... modifying SM would be a sin. WDW has its own classic version of Space Mountain... and last I check, its still one of the most popular rides in WDW (ever walked onto SM??). I think one upside-down rollercoaster in WDW is one too many.

I agree completely...its quality not quantity that makes Disney so great. Imagineers halt projects just so they can make them perfect and not rush them like rides at six flags which are jsut cheap thrills and not great themed rides like Disney offers. Anyone can build a stupid roller coaster but thats not what Disney wants to do they want to go the next step and make it there own with great themeing and own Disney touch that us fans keep coming back each time for more. My last visit to Disney was in April and my fam suckered me into going to IOA for the last day, I was not impressed at all and sadly it made my disney vacation go out on a sad note....live and learn. I recommend if anyone does this go to IOA before Disney. that way you can end the vacation on a magical note. But I think my next vacation will be only on Disney property.

well........i am not sure if i like the idea of a new space mountain...but on the other hand i am not a real big roller coaster fan anyways...but carousel of progress weather we like it or not will have to be torn down sometime....it might be neat..but you gotta think....its a great big beautiful tomorrow..balh blah blah...that song gets on my nerves..i doubt if it will be another space mountain...but i have heard about tearing down the old skyway station and putting a new rollercoaster in there...which would be pretty much or better than spider man...but whatever ever happens its DISNEY!! :D

Let me ask you guys a question..... When was the last time you actuall saw the supports to a roller coaster in Disney??? Never, because that is Disney bringing their coasters to the next level. IOA, or any other theme park for that matter, just sticks a roller coaster where they have extra space, and that's it. Sure, they do some limited theming, but after a while, seeing the track ruins the theming & experience.

I think that's the magic of Disney. They have the ability to give you a great riding experience, both through theming & thrills, and you don' have to see the "guts" of the ride. I would put any of Disney's rides up against a IOA or Six Flags ride, any day. Based on rider enjoyment, theming, & just basic fun... Disney will always win.

I agree. IOA and Six Flags aren't even comparable to WDW. I find it funny how IOA, Six Flags, etc. are sometimes called theme parks. To be honest, their theming downright sucks. I guess you have to give them credit for trying, but they will never come close to WDW in that department.

Never thought of it that way...... they should just stick to being Amusement Parks.

I think the concept of a revolving theatre is great, its an incredible idea when you sit back and think about it. If the content is tired liven it up but lets not rip it out for 30tons of steel track.

With COP you have 3 things to concider:

1. the novel concept of a revolving theatre.

2. the age and history of this ride, it is classic Disney.

3. It was one of Walt's pet projects, this alone makes it worth saving I think.

So lets not think of what to put in its place, rather lets think of how to keep the content current so this ride lives on for future generations. By keeping Walts original rides its a way for us and future generations to touch and experience what this great man created and from the era when he was alive.

In the UK historic buildings are given 'listed status' this preserves these great old buildings, part of our countries heritage, for future generations. I think COP and the other original rides should be given this kind of status within WDW.

Once they are raised they are gone forever:(

Thats exactly true, Disney Houses its Coasters to make the themeing amazing and the possibilities endless. I also think that going on a ride and not knowing what it is adds to the excitment. I had no idea what RRC was until I went on it...I don't like seeing the attractions (or tracks) before I go on them Has anyone ever seen the ground of the dueling dragons coaster at IOA, its just sand....no theming....they could have put some some kind of ancient ruins or something like a dragon cave........As far as six flags and IOA go, They should be called what they are; ameusment....I admit IOA has some themeing but the whole 5 islands thing dont go together and arent as organized as Disney. and has anyone noticed the smilarity between Splash Mt. and Ripsaw Falls....going on that ride made me sick just thinking of how much they copied splash...its almost a complete clone....it just goes to show how Disney is the best.:D

After reading your comments and thinking about them i have changed my signature

I agree Disney should not be all E-Tickets. We must ensure that we do not tear down classics to replace them with newer versions of something we already have. Lets just touch up the paint and AA and come up with an entirely new ride after all thats wat disney does bes and there is plenty of room. Tear down the stage in tommorrowland nothing ever seems to be happening there

And another thing u cant destroy somethin just as it is old or not as up to date as some things look at the begining of Disney and there first film Snow White its old and dated compared with the films of today are disney going to destroy that next as well

DONT DO IT

Here is an idea. They should build a new Horizons in Epcot using some new ride system like the "cave" technology. If they do close COP, then they should move it to the new Horizons building in a new theater. Also they should put Timekeeper in the same building in a new theater. The pavillion would be like the Land building where there are three attractions under one roof. All three of these attractions share a common subject: the past, the present, and the future-where we are, where we're going, where we've been.

Expanding on the idea above wat about a new land at either Epcot or Mk called the past

It will be cheap to construct (providing the kept everything) and will be very popular.

The amount of posts ive seen saying save this save that
well with this new land you can. Take the old rides and rebuild them in this new land. Horizons, delta dream flight, space mounatain, cop, time keeper, the one that used to be where test track is. I thnk it would be a hit and help disney keep its other lands modern and up 2 date. This way the new space mountian
can be built keepin tommorrow land as a plce of tommorrow.

It will never happen but it would be nice if it did it wouldny realy fit in at MK but might at epcot

What do u all think

Hear, hear Jay!!! BTW, I found the reference to CoP being slated for destruction. The comment was made by author hephep1. As she doesn't list where she got her information, I'm not sure how reliable it is.

True but there has been speculation for ages now that Cop will go once the theatre motors finally give out. I think again being involved in electrical engineering I know that it will cost quite a bit to replace them but not as much as some people would imagine, therefore it is probably in their minds to rip it out sooner rather than later, and they will use an excuse like the motors to justify their actions.

I've never doubted that they would eventually tear down the ride, which is too bad because I really do enjoy it. I'm just wondering about the timing with the 100th b-day party going on next year.

I would be surprised if they did and annoyed as im out there next September and would love to ride it one last time. But in the true tradition of Disney they seem to do these things at a minutes notice, look at timekeeper another fav of mine.

Ain't that the truth! I almost fell off my chair laughing when Pressler said they had gotten better at giving advanced notice of closing rides...
