When I was 8 my mom had to DRAG me on, litterally. I was crying, screaming, and standing my ground as hard as possible. Everyone must have thought something awful about me. LOL
lol! same thing happened to me when i was 6. I remember i was hysterically crying and had a kung fu grip on my father. I guess that traumatic experience has stayed with me for the past 11 years lol

So here's my story. I used to be a bit of a chicken and never road any of the coasters at WDW. I started visiting regularly in '98 and have gone at least once every year since then, sometimes twice a year. In Spring 2003 I finally built up the courage to ride Space Mountain for the first time. My heart was pounding, but when I sat in that little car I completely relaxed and had the best ride ever! And since then I've gone on every coaster at WDW. The only thing I haven't gone on is TOT. I just can't seem to bring myself to do it. So help me out here! Tell me what I'm missing and maybe I'll be so convinced that I'll ride it when we visit this May!
I would not be a good one to try to convince you! When I rode it the one and only time, I said some very un-Disney-like words! I'm scared:zipit: of heights and I rode it to try and conquer my fear, didn't work all that well! :ROFLOL:

You definitely should try the TOT. When my mom and I went in 2003 I wanted to go but my mom was too afraid. But then when we went the following year, I finally convinced her to try it. And now it is one of her favorite rides. We ride it at least four times when we are there. If my mom can ride it so can you.

I rode it last year for the first time. I am a big chicken when it comes to rides like that. I like it so well I rode it again. What is cool about it is that each ride is different. My first ride was not so bad at all. We actually paused a split second before we changed directions. Me and my friend both rode it for the first time. Then we got my DW, DD (6), and my friends DS (8) because we thought they could handle it real well. The second ride was so much differnent than the first. We did not pause that split second before we switched directions and it lasted longer. But it was a great experience. I also rode BTMR for the first time too and loved it. I have still never rode Space Mountain, RnRC, or Mission Space. Maybe I will conquer my anxiety of one or more of these when we go back in June. I will be riding TOT again this June.

You won't know for sure if you won't like it until you try it ;)

But if you've managed all the other thrill rides Disney has thrown at you, you'll have no problems.

Let me say, by reading this thread I know for sure I'm in the minority! I have been to DW many times and I always avoided TOT! Last year, for very good reasons, I believed it would be my last year to visit DW, so I absolutely made myself ride TOT. The que is awesome! I was so impressed. My brother rode it with me and we got on. He loves this ride, so it was no big deal for him. Let me say, I have never in my life been so sick after the ride. I never get sick riding rides and this one threw me for a loop. I was done for the rest of the day. Now in saying that, I do not regret riding...for it is definitely an experience, and one that you can count on, I will never have again, but I'm glad that I did it! But I can read about TOT or see a clip of it or even think about my ride and my stomach revolts!

Luckily, I am returning in 29 days exactly for a wonderful week! My husband is going this year and he wants to ride TOT! I told him that my brother would be absolutely thrilled to ride with him and that I'll be waiting in the BATB audience!

I think you should ride it! I'm glad I did...but will never do it again! I envy those who can...because it is a FUN ride.

I was always scared to ride any roller coasters, but i got the courage to do space mountain. i was scared but i loved it. Then we walked over to the Tower and i listened to the screams and was like there is no way i can do that. my best friend said come on ill do it if you do it. i caved. The walk through was awesome and then we got in the elevator. i was so scared and when it started i screamed like a little girl. when we got out i look back and said ok now lets do it again. i absolutely loved it. i cant wait to go back just to ride that again.

I didn't read this thread all the way thru, so hopefully I am not repeating everyone else:) My advise. Go there first thing, because then you are inside the building before you start hearing any sounds that might make you nervous (this worked very well, when trying to get my mom to go on), next don't sit in the back row middle seat (at least your first time) . and finally just relax, enjoy the ride.

I rode ToT for the first time in October of last year and I absolutely hated it. Everyone told me, "Oh you'll love it...its so much fun...blah blah blah". HA! I was a nervous wreck waiting in line, and then when we actually got on the ride I didn't stop screaming during the entire drop sequence. When it was finally over I couldn't stop shaking and I could not wait to get outta there.

Thank you, I thought I was going to be the only one who felt this way. I went on years ago when there was only 1 drop, not many drops like there are now, and the 1 drop was too much for me. I am one of those who does not like that feeling you get in your stomach when you go down big hills and such. But besides not liking the drop, I was disappointed in the ride in general. I guess I dont see what everyone else is raving about since there was not really much to see? (Even thought I also dont like the hill in Splash Mountain the ride itself is so cute that I can be convinced to ride it just to see the show and just close my eyes when we get to the drop). I think the best part of the attraction is the queue since the hotel lobby is pretty cool looking. I will say that my mother loved the ride and was very disappointed that I would not go on again with her, but my legs were shaking for like half an hour after I got off and told her she was on her own if she wanted to ride it again (she however does not like Space Mountain). My husband was also disappointed when I went with him and I would not ride and he did not want to go alone. I doubt I will ever go on the ride again since I dont think I could handle the idea of several drops. Also just like you I love Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain but in my opinion these are completely different from ToT. So sorry I will not be the one to convince you to ride. Your experience could be completely different than mine, so you will have to be the one to decide. In my opinion you are missing nothing except shaky legs. :)

My 9yo DS hates thrill rides only does a few, and for the first 3 times we went to Disney, this last year we finally convinced him to ride it and he ended up doing it 3 more times. Same scared face in the photo each time but he did it. His biggest thing when we went the first year was he got scared when you go into the room for the pre-show and wouldn't go further. He still doesn't like it but we hide his face during that part.

I did it!!!

Well, I finally did it. I rode ToT!! I must admit, I chickened out, again, on our trip in May, but we just went this past weekend and I worked up the courage to ride it. I think it helped that my Mom was with us, so she watched our son while my husband and I went on the ride. Otherwise, I would have had to do it alone.

And here's my verdict. I really didn't like it! It's the only ride at WDW that made me feel a little ill afterwards. I think it's because it just keeps dropping over and over again and you never get a break. Kind of like those Buccaneer rides at carnivals. I've always hated those. Anyway, I was too nervous to appreciate the details of the ride, so I can't comment on any of that. I might go on it again when we go in April, but I'll have to be in just the right mood for that to happen!

I am glad you rode it. Thats the best thing, now you know, if you decide to go again GREAT! but if you don't at least you can say you have. But Remember, if you do go again, it may not be the "same" ride, since they have several different drop sequences.

As you've probably been able to determine from the majority of the previous posts, the experience of riding The Hollywood Tower of Terror is most certainly worth the effort of getting past your fears. Here's why:
  • The screams that you hear as you approach the attraction as the elevator drops are not coming from the riders themselves. These screams are actually recordings that are being broadcast in sync with the drop in order to make the ride seem more frightening than it actually is.
  • The drop itself is not a true free fall. These drops are computer controlled and monitored to feel as if the rider is free falling, when in reality it is most certainly a smoothly controlled descent.
  • The special effects and attention to detail in this attraction rival anything else that you will most likely encounter anywhere, including many movies' special F/X.
The Hollwood Tower of Terror is arguably the most impressive theme park attraction anywhere in the world. You won't want to miss it and after riding you'll be glad that you did.

I finally rode it on this trip and I was dissapointed. All I heard about was you leave the elevator and it is such a cool ride. It's relatively short and I think they could do a much better job. Now RNRC is a different story, by far the best coaster in MGM.

I will say, that whatever happens in TOT, you'll feel secure that you are in something large, sturdy and your seat and seatbelt are good. You'll feel more glued to it than most other rides. The drops and surprises are scary, but its worth it. So ride it with a "ride buddy" and scream! It releases the tension, plus everybody else will be doing it. People who don't scream are the ones who white knuckle it through and don't enjoy the thrill as much.

Ride it twice. 1st time, for the experience. 2nd to enjoy it.

Yes, I agree... Rockin' Rollercoaster is the best coaster at the studios.
