Converting tickets

Is there a way to convert your MYW tickets from a booking into an annual pass without losing the other perks of your vacation; ie, if there were free dining can I convert those tickets to annual pass holder status and still keep the free dining?
DS is going to attend college in Winter Park so I expect that there will be numerous trips down the coast to see him and I think having the annual pass would be a good idea.

Yes. Just go to Guest Relations and request an upgrade. They can do it without any impact on your dining credits.

There have been people who said they lost their dining credits by doing so, but most haven't had any problem. Once they've made the changes, just ask them to confirm how many credits you have left. If there aren't any, tell them to fix it before you leave GR or restore you to what you had. The other option is to use the tickets from the package and on your last day, after you've depleted the dining credits, upgrade then.

From AllEars:

UPGRADING is the act of applying the entire original purchase price towards the new MYW ticket or AP/PAP.

Disney allows you to UPGRADE most park tickets to a longer Magic Your Way ticket, an Annual Pass (AP), a Premium Annual Pass (PAP) or a Season Pass for Florida Residents (SP) prior to using or within 14 days from first use for MYW tickets. They will take the entire price of the ticket you started using and deduct it from the cost of the new ticket. Disney will not allow you to upgrade certain promotional tickets not available to the general public or any partially used ticket purchased prior to the January 2005 introduction of Magic Your Way tickets.

You can upgrade your MYW ticket to an AP/PAP/SP. You will receive full purchase price on the original ticket and you will pay only the difference in price to the AP/PAP/SP. The starting date of an AP/PAP will be back dated to the date you first used any admission off the old ticket. This transaction must be done within 14 days of first use of the MYW ticket.

As Monty said, the Guest Relations window at the parks can do this quite easily, and it's exactly what I did when staying on Free Dining back in September. I upgraded my MYW ticket to an AP. (Though at the start of the transaction I did mention that we had the Dining Plan, and confirmed with the CM that what she was about to do wouldn't mess up our credits. And it didn't. Credits were just fine afterward)

The one fact not mentioned, though, has to do with the "Water Parks & More" option on your MYW tickets:
-If you've purchased the WP&M option and you have *used* any of those extra admissions before upgrading, you will only be allowed to upgrade to a Premium Annual Pass.
-If you've purchased the WP&M option but *haven't* used any of the extra admissions, they'll apply the full purchase price toward whatever AP you want.

Thank you so much for the information. It appears that we will be relocating DS in mid-September and I received a Disney Visa offer on free dining during that time frame. We have been planning to get the annual passes, so what a great opportunity.

At guest relations you can upgrade your tickets anyway you want, we have done it several times, and it's a small cost depending on what you want to do, and it starts right there.

We always head straight to the guest services at MK. We switch everything over before we enter any of the parks. Get our AP's and then have our KTTK card with our dining, room key, etc. We have done this several times and have never lost any meal credits.
