Great Pic update! Just wondering if this Mystery building will have it's own restaurants and fastfood spots or are they planning on sharing with The Contemp.?

The arcade was moved upstairs - across from the shops.
Ah ok. Whew. That was kind of a tradition of ours when we visit. Weird I know, but when you worked for the mouse in the past, it gives you the priveledge to check out a lot of the other little things Disney has to offer. :)

I know absolutely nothing, but it seems to me that something will eventually need to be done to the south wing which will now stick out like a sore thumb. Most guests don't even associate it with the Contemporary.

Well, there won't be anything done for a long time as they just overhauled all of those rooms a couple of years ago. I don't know how true this is, but I've also heard that the land right there can't support a large building like where the North Wing used to be.

Thanks for the pics! Looks like the Wave Lounge will be part of the plan to eliminate PI.

That could certainly be part of management's strategy, although I wouldn't be completely surprised if it was just a total coincidence, either.

The Wave looks a bit dim (not bashing your photo skills, just the lighting in the restaurant). I can't stand places where you can hardly see where you're going. I'm 20 with good eyesight (with my contacts in), and I can't imagine how some of you "older folks" ;) could possible get around in there...

It is actually a smidgen brighter I would say than in my pictures. I've certainly seen dimmer restaurants, I don't think this one is bad once you're actually in there.

Those pictures of Concourse Steakhouse make me very sad....

:(

Yeah, it's somewhat upsetting to me, too, knowing that there won't be a nice restaurant there for a long time now, if ever.

I am wayyy late on this, but is that new restaurant, Wave, in the spot where the arcade used to be? On the bottom level kinda behind the checkin desk? Did they move the arcade or just get rid of it?

Yeah, it is where the Food & Fun Center used to be, and the new arcade (The Game Station, bluh) is where the Fantasia gift shop used to be under the Monorail station.

love the pics
cant wait for my next trip so i can eat at the new rest.!!!!!
nice update, you are makeing me want to go right now!!!

For some odd reason, "restroom" was the first thing to come to mind when you said "rest." :lookaroun

Great pics. We are staying here for the first time in October. Should I be concerned about construction noise?
Sheri

Hope you enjoy your stay! I wouldn't worry about, they only work during the day, and I haven't even heard any exceedingly loud noise from it ever.

Good Point. Now the symetrical style of the Contemporary Resort's architecture is completely ruined. I don't think Disney would put another one of those round buildings on the other side just to match. I don't think the resort infrastructure could handle that kind of capacity... let alone the demand on the Monorail's inner loop that the first DVC building will cause.

Consider this, though: if this building in fact ends up being a collection of suites, those larger rooms might actually number the same, maybe slightly more than the old North Garden Wing.

Once again, thanks for the kind comments, everybody!

I really like the attention being paid to this resort. The Contemporary always seemed to be lacking the dynamic theming that the other deluxe resorts have. Now, it's starting to match its namesake. :) I'll definitely swing by on our next trip and check it out for myself!

Thanks again for posting the pictures!

I'm curious as to the shape of the new "tower". Are there any photos/blueprints that someone has posted? We recently rented a little Sea Raycer boat and cruised the waters, and we noticed that the new building (from the water side) has two smaller circular towers that are connected to the main building. I thought it was odd to place such a round building next to the angular Contemporary, then my wife said, "It looks like that new building will be in the shape of a classic Mickey." I think she's right.

We're sorry to see the Concourse Steakhouse go too. We loved their French Onion Soup. Whenever we went, we seemed to be surrounded by seminar/convention people, all wearing name tags. Always seemed to be a very adult restaurant. With guests staying at the Contemporary for a convention, they're not going to be eating at Chef Mickey's, so the Steakhouse was a perfect choice. They could kick back, sip a little wine, and get some great food.

Is The Wave more adult too? Looks like it's a standard lounge/bar, and I can't imagine too many people taking strollers in there. Seems much more adult to me based on the photos. :veryconfu

Thanks unkadug!

It's weird, but when saw the progress of the DVC tower in May, we heard a few people on the monorail say, "It looks like a parking garage". Doesn't appear to have too much "magic" in the design.

However, I could swear that the artist's drawing you posted does not match what we saw. It seems like there were "ears" added on (2 additional towers) at the tips of the "C" shaped main building. The perimeter did'nt seem to be a smooth shaped "C" like in the artists drawing, at least as it was viewed from the lake side.

If the hotel is built as per the drawing you posted, we'll nickname it the "e-clip hotel". The entire hotel looks like an e-clip fastener. http://pinballmagic.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=74

Thank you so much for posting these photos! :D The Wave looks awesome! I started a thread a few days ago asking if anyone had any pics of the wave and there were no replies and now I got them and many more! I can't wait to check out all of the new things at the resort and eat at the wave in August!

2. i think i'm going to buy into DVC the minute they start selling units for the Contemporary Tower.

You and all the rest of us as well. Even in our "so called" recession, I can see this thing selling out as fast as a Hanna Montana concert! Hope us current DVC'ers get first crack at it!

Hope I didnt start another "things are good vs. things are bad economy thread!

Thanks for the update & photos.
