So yesterday i thought id try something new that ive never done before, try and see IllumiNations and Wishes from the contemporary resort.
The view of both was amazing (and i could also see Universal Studios fireworks, and Seaworlds if i wasnt glued to MMY).
This makes me love the contemporary even more

Glad you tried something new and enjoyed it!! The view of MK from the Contemporary is phenomenal. I find myself getting "stuck" doing certain things at Disney the same way every trip to be pleasantly surprised to try it a different way and love it!

I have to ask: What is your impression of the different perspective seeing the fireworks from the Contemporary as opposed to standing on Main Street? Seems to me it just wouldn't be the same without the Castle being front-and-center.

For a change of pace, try viewing from the beach at the Polynesian - they pump the music through speakers and the castle is still front and center. It's awesome.

Is it possible to do this while not staying at the Contemporary? I imagine you can, but I'm thinking it wouldn't really be 'encouraged.'

You certainly can if you're eating at Cali Grill (they even lower the lights). If you just want a drink, you can tell the person at the elevator and they'll let you up to the bar.

Not sure about if you don't have business at the Cali Grill.

Yes you can get ontop of the contemporary without staying. What ive done is take the monorail to Contemporary and then go to the elavator and take it up to the highest (unless you love walking stairs), then go out and go toward the doors at the end of the hall facing Magic Kingdom, Then walk all the way up. Be prepared to have a long walk back.

And they do pump the music for it up there.

You can do this without going through the restaurant? I've seen wishes a million times and pretty much stopped watching it years ago, but I'd love to see it from a different vantage point. But I don't really want to go through the restaurant if it's too much trouble. I know there's an outdoor area near that shop you see from the monorail, but that's not the 'top' correct? Then what about the Poly? You pretty much have to be staying there if you want to see wishes from the beach right? I think it's a bit weird to just post up there for that, but I can't see it being a huge issue.

Yes this is incredible. The contemporary is a great view, but the Poly view gives you a direct view of the show from the front. Your farther away, but it's worth it for the angle. I highly recommend this.

we saw the summernightastic show from both the poly beach and the contemp roof last june-july. And in my opinion the view from the roof is the better view, you are closer and you can make out the action around the castle and you are not constantly at risk of gator attack. lol

Man, I'm really kicking myself now. We've stayed at the CR for the last couple of years and were fortunate enough to have MK view rooms, but it sure would have been cool to hear the music, too. I thought that it was only piped in at the Cali Grill.

If you have a Magic Kingdom room, you can get the music on your TV.

Watching the Fireworks from the beach at the Poly is one of our favourite things to do at WDW. The children enjoy playing in the sand while we wait and it means we also get to see the electrical water pageant.
Maybe next time we can try the CR for fiework viewing.
