I don't think this is accurate. As of a month ago there were plans to do the Garden Wing next. I am HOPEING they do not, but not because I hate the rooms. They are okay. Not in LOVE with them, but I don't hate them either. I was just hoping they would not do the south garden wing at all as with its very low ceiling, this building is WAY past its prime. Time for it to meet the wrecking ball. Same for the Convention Center which does only a fraction of the business it use to draw. This can easily be absorbed by Disney's other Convention facilities, most of which are better anyway. I would raze it and build a BLT2 where the convention center this, and a parking garage where the south garden wing is now.
I love how “quaint” and 70s the garden wing feels, but the ceilings are incredibly low. Poly has the same issue in its hallways. My concern is if they add another tower there it’s going to look like a high rise development on that side of the lagoon and block the A frame tower. At least BLT is set quite a ways back from the lagoon and not a focal point. I’m thinking there might also be a cap on how much the resort can handle in terms of infrastructure and amenities and not sure it’s totally feasible to add another tower there. I wonder what the breaking point is for rooms around seven seas lagoon, and if that’s part of the reason Reflections was going at bay lake instead of another addition to one of the 7SL area resorts.

also,

to stay on topic, these new rooms are HIDEOUS

Ok, I went back about 10 pages and I can't find the room pics that have lately raised such a blow-up. Can someone link them again, please?

Everything thing I have seen shows the garden wing going away. There was no plans to renovate them last I heard. The convention center is also schedule to be reimagined.

As has been mentioned, Garden Wing was specifically mentioned in the announcement as receiving the Incredibles rooms after the Tower is complete.

"And once the tower guest rooms are complete, work will begin on the rooms inside the Garden Wing out on the shore of Bay Lake."

Something changed. Villas at Grand Floridian Part Deux is the stop gap until the world settles down a bit.

SGW goes down Q1 FY22. They’ll probably try to get the full 7(ish) years out of the new rooms before they attempt to replace it again, but who knows. Disney’s demolished newly renovated rooms before at the Poly.

It would seem Disney Parks Blog is screening comments now. Tried to leave a comment a couple of times showing my disappointment with no success. I also sent an email but have yet to hear back from them.

I am betting that once the Contemporary is open despite the dislike it will be filled to capacity. I'll bet a Dole whip

No, I think you're definitely right. I think Disney has reached a point where they think their market is locked in and they can do everything cheaper because demand is high regardless. I'm not sure if that'll hold though. I think Chapek will be in for a rude awakening if they continue down this path.

Well, to anyone that wants to spend their money staying at the Contemporary I say ENJOY and have a magical time. As for me and anyone related to me, other than riding the monorail through the station in the Contemporary we will be avoiding it.
