Who here thinks the Contemporary needs a new makeover? Granted, I never have stayed there but noticed the exterior looks so 70's looking...it just doesn't seem to fit with the "New" look Disney is trying to establish...what does everyone else think??? :)

I think the Contemporary captures the nostalgia of the "older" Disney World... like when EPCOT actually stood for something! I love the Contemporary... I don't think it needs a change...

I would be 100% all for a make-over. I think the contemporary is "okay" looking. If it didn't have the California Grill on top and the monorail going through I would say it doesn't belong with the others in the Seven Seas Lagoon.

Most people on the list will disagree with me- and that's fine. But I rank it as the worst of the Deluxe resorts.

IT's called the CONTEMPORARY for a reason...that's the style it's themed in. The rooms have very modern furniture and the whole hotel along with the exterior is full of sleek lines..the monorail going through only makes it more so contemporary. The exterior is however begining to become outdated....maybe if they coated the whole building in silver plating it would look more modern? :D lol

Altering the look of the exterior (except for maybe a different color of paint) would: a) be really difficult to do b) ruin the feel of the resort IMO.

I agree TLB...just offering some alternatives for these guys. :)

To each his own I guess. :)

The "Contemporary" name, really no longer fits. They need to call it the RETRO hotel.

If they can update the old DL hotel. They can update the Contemporary. The new DL hotel is really spectacular. IMO

I think it needs a paint job on the outside but that is about it. Have you seen the inside, it is very nice since they remodled. Though the rooms are way to bright. You can have modern with more soft colors.

i heard that when they picked the design for the interiors of the room they pick all that crazy stuff because it is hard on your eyes and you will want to spend less time in your room and more time out spending money.

The outside is well.....ugly but, i like the rooms! they remind me of the jetsons! I would keep the rooms as they are and the oustide well you know what they say...don't judge a book by its cover!:)

I would like to see some kind of statistics on the occupancy rate of the Contemporary. I've been to WDW many times and stayed onsite each time. We always try a different resort each time, but I'd have to say that the Contemporary is the LAST one that I would want to stay in. It just doesn't have the kind of fun theming that draws you in like most of the others. I was told once that a lot of the business that resort does in in conventions and whatnot. We almost always visit the CR's lobby and especially the arcade, but I don't think it is worth the Deluxe money to stay there, IMHO.

I'd like to see the stats on how many people pick that resort who are at WDW solely for a vacation.

See, now you've gone and made me mad. The only thing i said about the monorail was that it and the California Grill are the only things keeping it to be mentioned in the same breath as the other magnificent hotels on th Seven Seas Lagoon. Why must you always change what others say? Oh well, to each his own...

ummm...are you easy to anger or something? most likely DisJosh didn't say that to change what you said...he probably just misunderstood! i dunno, maybe you're just joking around with him, but if you're not, just chill out! I'm sure he didn't say what he said to offend you.

The Contemporary is CONSTANTLY updated and made more contemporary. The only thing not touched, and probably never will be touched, is the Mary Blair in the Grand Ganyon Councourse. The rooms have all been renovated and updated, and the hotel itself is still quite a few years ahead of its time, just like when it opened. What goes on behind the scenes is what makes this a great resort. It has the largest convention capacity on property. And, the rooms are NOT the largest of the deluxe, they are the smallest. The Polynesian has the claim to the largest deluxe resort room size, square footage wise/average per room.

I don't know the way in which some of you value the resorts. The truth is: sometimes it's not all about theming. I think that the Contemporary is the best hotel at WDW though it's not the best themed.
The Contemporary has everything you could wish you had inside your resort, plus the advantage of being in just one building without the necesity of going out without a good reason.
If something's need to be changed it's not the looks, but a slight refurbishment in general.

Honestly, I think your on to something. The interior and the Design are great, it just needs a revamped exterior to fit back in with the New Tommorrowland Look. The Design now fit the old tommorrowland. According to SpongeBob, everything in the future is Platinum, and it would be a cool effect, provided that all the guests weren't cooked to death in the new Aluminum Foil House of Doom.

They aren;t the smallest of the Deluxe resorts nor of the monorail resorts. The Epcot resorts are around 380sq. And AK and WL are 340

GF=440sq
Contemp.=436sq
Poly=409sq
YC/BC/BW= 380sq
WL=340
AKL=344/ Deluxe=381
