So now that the Tomorrowland Skyway station has been sent to Yesterland and all the debris removed it appears the next step has begun for that area.

Mousesteps has posted pics of the construction phase that is just beginning. And they seem to be doing more than just repaving.

The crews seem to be concentrating on the roof.

Let the speculating begin.

PS- I know there is a thread about what people want to go there. This thread is about what it seems is actually going there.

Aren't they probably just making a roof? Since this previously had a second floor above it, I would think something would have to be done to make it weatherproof.

I agree. Waiting room for SM non-riders.

But the potential for something on the roof is an interesting possibility.

Yeah, like a new roof.:ROFLOL:

Three guys in hardhats and slacks don't make a construction crew.

Besides, if they are going to utilize the roof as an overlook, they have to re-route, relocate or extend all those stack pipes.

Sitting on a roof garden bench, chomping down on a turkey leg while the aroma of little Johnny's poopy diaper wafts thru the air is not a quality guest experience.:hurl:

All of the constuction equipment was removed after the demolition. The pics show an entire new set of machines. Different crew and probably different contract. And yes, they would be re-engineering the stack pipes if the rumor of some sort of food service is true. I think you might be the only person who may not know that.

I expect them to roof over what used to be the second level of the skyway station, cosmetically refurbish the restrooms and exterior of what remains of the skyway station.

It appears they are keeping the pipes from the old waterfall.. It would be nice to have some sort of water feature in the area. I'm sure there will be new benches, planters, maybe some trees.

I really hope they get rid of the brown fastpass hut and make a new one over by the skyway station. Hopefully they will get rid of the 1994 FedEx entrance pylon and replace it with a more tasteful one.

I also expect the space mountain entrance building to get refurbished in terms of paint and new siding.

Yeah I figured on the stack work at the outset of construction and the specuneering began.:)

Let me toss out something about food service in this area that no one has touched on:no offstage access. The utilidors stop at Buzz, and there is no rear access to the former Skyway Station. The more logical logistical location it seems to me, would be in the former Galaxy Theater site. Just a thought.

Nah, got you covered.
Been in this construction racket long enough to know vapors rise and sierra don't flow uphill.

I agree, but I had an idea. If they did build a restaurant on the second floor and placed rockwork and water features around the visible portions of SM it could really have great views. Including SM, TTA and even the cool roofline of the the BLT. I keep thinking of the LA airport restaurant Imagineering designed but on a slightly smaller scale. Something like that.

That would be awesome.

A restaurant isn't gonna happen. No Utilidoor entrance= no restaurant.
