Construction at Coronado Springs?

That is a nice map, but it's an old one. Don't pay any attention to the exit numbers along I-4 on the map. Those are the old numbering system. Exits are now in the 60's I believe, to coincide with mile markers. :D

Regarding the new road into WDW, has any construction started yet at the Buena Visat Drive intersection? I`m interested in whether it will be a `proper` junction of bridges and slip roads, or simply a traffic signal controlled junction.

Well, the construction area has reached BVD and there were some cones and barricades beginning to go in on BVD last Saturday. I don't know for sure but it seemed to me it would only be a traffic light.

Does anyone know if the construction is affecting travel time from AKL to the parks? Thanks!
No. The only route to or from AKL that may become affected will be the Disney Studios because they also stop at Blizzard Beach. However at this time it does not have any affect on any buses.

For those of you who are interested here is an update on the construction. Remember this refers only to the road on Disney property that we had previously called Reedy Creek Road.
Construction of Western Way continues at a steady pace - 07/15/2005

Construction of Western Way, the east/west arterial roadway connecting Central Florida’s Western Beltway with Buena Vista Drive, continues at a steady pace. As of mid-summer, 2005, the contractor, Granite Construction Company of California, completed all roadway curbing, paving, stormwater piping and site work between the road’s western terminus at the Western Beltway and the bridge over Reedy Creek. Landscaping along those completed areas of the roadway began in early-July, 2005. Progress continues on the Reedy Creek Bridge, utilizing a top-down method of construction over environmentally sensitive wetlands with approximately 50% of the 1800 foot-long bridge completed. Construction of the roadway’s stormwater piping system and site work is underway at the eastern end of the roadway between the Reedy Creek Bridge and Buena Vista Drive.

Completion of the $37 million project is anticipated in the first quarter of 2006.

Updates always welcome - thanks!

If there is anything to photograph (yet) any chance? Or at least when the Western Way / BVD junction looks more than a building site!

I posted this photo in another thread. It was taken Thursday and shows the construction where the Disney road (Reedy Creek Road/Western Way) will meet up with Buena Vista Drive just south of Coronado Springs.

Here is a quick diagram I through together to show where the new road will meet up with Buena Vista in relation to World Drive.
road12.jpg

Basically, if you look at the map Peter provided, if you go the middle of the left hand side of the map and draw a line to the red circle on Buena Vista Drive, that's the direction of the new road, it travels directly behind Animal Kingdom, right on the other side of the Tree Farm and the new Transportation building.

clearing between World Drive and coronado

There has also been some clearing off of World Drive west of MGM that heads towards the Coronado area.
