Hello all, wondering if you can help me out?

I just got back from Disney World yesterday, we stayed at Coronado Springs. as we were walking around we saw a lot of construction and they had built another security gate in the middle of all the construction.

Does anyone know if they are adding on to the resort, or bulding another

Thanks in advance for any info

I know they are/were building a convention centre at the resort but I thought that had finished. Im going in September and staying at the Coronado Springs. Had hoped construction would be over by then. Did it disrupt your stay?

The new convention center contruction is done. The construction is for a new higway that will connect West Buena Vista Drive(the road CSR is on) to the new western beltway(toll road 429). RCID/Disney is currently constucting about 3 miles of road way with three 1800 foot bridges over the actual Reedy Creek and a series of new retention ponds. The project will be completed next year the new road will meet up with W Buena Vista on the South side of CSR.

Here is the map that shows the route for the new toll road 429. This map does not show the route for Disney's new road. However the black box next to where it says Reedy Creek Improvement District Road is where the intersection between Disney's road and the toll road will be located.

The construction did not disrupt our stay at all, we never heard a thing.

Thanks for the map and the explanation

If anyone comes across a detailed map of the route on property with intersection details I`d appreciate it. Thanks!

I have not been able to find one yet however I did find three PDFs that show the route of 429 imposed over a satellite image. This clearly shows where the new toll road will travel in relation to AKL the RCID water basins and a few other Disney items. I will see if I can find them.

I just remembered that the security gates I saw in the middle of the construction were the ones that you need a room key to access to get into the property.

maybe they are going to change the whole road pattern of Coronado springs
or an extra access road to get to the other buldings

This new traffic pattern may affect the flow dramatically

Thanks alot peter. Reedy Creek Road or Drive - that sounds good. Considering Reedy Creek predates WDW and the RCID it`s a fitting tribute. I would have thought Buena Vista Drive would just be extended west though - or does this new road not link in directly with BVD at the World Drive intersection? Hard to picture it on maps 3000 miles away :(

I wonder what agreements the contractors agreed with WDW regarding the RCID land use as shown in section 3... free intersection onto the new road perhaps? Build a new welcome arch maybe

Anymore info anyone (esp peter11435) can provide in the future regarding this would be most welcome - for property nuts like me! BTW to all you locals, its June, its summer, and its 52 degrees (fahrenheit) and raining in Manchester England... they promise us summer will arrive proper by the weekend.

Thanks again!

Also this shows the construction information for Disney part of the construction. The link is to Granite constructions website and has a photo of the construction of Disney's road. This construction is separate from the actual construction of 429; this link shows information only for the road connecting 429 with Buena Vista Drive.

There will be no toll at the intersection between 429 and Reedy Creek Road. However there will be tolls getting on 429 from certain places, and along the route. Traveling from the turnpike south to WDW, or from I-4 north to WDW will cost $1 in tolls.

Thats why its not Buena Vista Drive - I forgot BVD curves down to the All Stars. What was I saying about being 3000 miles away...

Thanks yet again.

News Release

Project Description:

Construction of new roadway and four bridges in Orange County, Florida on the Disney World property. The scope of the project includes construction of approximately 2.5 miles of four-lane roadway, four bridges and 10 ponds. The new roadway will connect Buena Vista Drive in Disney World with SR-429 (Western Beltway) soon to be constructed to the west. Two single-span bridges are being built over an existing canal at the west end of the project. Additional twin bridges spanning approximately 1,800 linear feet each are being built over Reedy Creek, using the "top-down" construction technique commonly used in environmentally sensitive areas. Work includes all associated paving, pavement markings, drainage systems, lighting, and signage.

I bet the people in the WDW area are looking foward for an alternative to head north/south versus I4 .... plus another entrance to WDW!
I think most locals already avoid I-4 at all costs. I personally always use Osceola Parkway. It costs $1.50 but there is never any traffic.

Hey Peter,
This is an awesome map! Do you have a larger version of it that coveres the rest of Disney property?
