This is so Chapek it’s too perfect. Doesn’t care about the past really at all but does something small and pointless like this. Then has his team make these posts to say they’re honoring the past but in reality bigger fans know it’s nothing.

Bob Chapek is the CEO of the company, he’s had literally no input on or knowledge of this floor or this Instagram post. The guy sucks but not everything is on him.

What makes a storytelling detail is purpose and meaning. It isn’t just some obscure thing. The defining characteristic of EPCOT was its organization. Ripping out the organization of Epcot and claiming it’s inspired by EPCOT is very much shallow pandering.
I can assure you, the people who decided to demolish the hub are not the same people who chose to fill this restaurant with nods to E.P.C.O.T. They were tasked with making a nice restaurant for the hub, and they decided to incorporate tasteful details and references instead of minimalism or more I.P.

What?! No IP?!! Surely, the universe could not be so cruel to allow that to happen!!!1!

Is it weird that my only qualm about this has been the lack of a menu reveal? Lately Disney has been knocking out of the park with QS menus, which are normally heavily advertised. Makes me wonder why a restaurant opening in under a month wouldn’t be the same way with its build up.

Is it:

1. They haven’t finalized the menu yet,
2. It’s not opening in under a month, or
3. Something else?

Genuinely curious. The first two would seem to be somewhat of a bad look, on the surface. 🤷‍♂️

To me the “something else” that I’m worried about is a bland/basic menu that isn’t worth advertising.
Can’t be more basic than Electric Umbrellas menu

I wouldn't be surprised by a bland/basic menu -- something like an upgraded version of Electric Umbrella -- considering the varied assortment of QS offerings around the World Showcase. I can easily imagine management thinking they need a place for simple hamburgers, chicken tenders, and salads at EPCOT, especially since that's no longer offered at the American Adventure pavilion.

From rechecking the concept art it appears it's going that route...😁

He actually has more input than you think. Bob Iger made some of the final detail decisions on Shanghai. These guys know that some of these things will reflect on their legacy oven if it’s a small detail like this or the front entrance to the park. Did he come up with the idea? Likely not but I bet he had some say in it. I heard he did help choose the music for Harmonious. That being said, it is a slap in the face to purists. This park is going to end up being an Islands of Adventure clone with decorations from Epcot Center.

Honestly, at this point, it wishes it will be an Islands of Adventure clone.
At least Islands of Adventure has an overall theme that flows (albeit broken up with Lost Continent at the moment).

So in doing this, TheZach is saying, “We’re allowing guests to walk all over the original plans for this park, literally!” I wonder if he has this as flooring in his bathroom, so he can continue to **** all over it like he’s doing in the parks?

Yeah, it’s harsh. I don’t care. They’ve ruined a once-glorious park with empty, meaningless words and thoughtless, idiotic decisions, and he’s front and center of the crowd doing it along with Bob and Josh.
I don’t pee on the floor but we can’t all have marksman’s aim, I suppose.

I like old disney, and I think the floor is really cool. I still think old architect models of new park lands should be displayed along the peoplemoveer..

Yes we dislike the parasites that paid for it, but try to let that go for a minute. For whatever reason something good happened....

Seems that, if you turn artisans loose, you'll see some good work. I fully expect the terrazzo floor to look great. Will always be better than the synthetic wood ceramic tiles that's used just about everywhere now. But, don't fool yourself; just as we did back when I was a kid, we covered up said terrazo to lay parquet on top of it. Tomorrow's "Zach" will see this as "kitsch" and perform their "magic" on top of it. It's the circle of life!

This feels like what they did with Bay Lake Tower. It is literally just a modern hotel with a picture of a Mark I in it. It gets away with the lack of deep theming because it is next to a building with the name “Contemporary”. The connections cafe does the same thing. It tries to get away with it because it is in a park named “Epcot”. I suspect that the Polynesian Tower will do the same thing. It’s called Appeasement Design.
