They were, which was my point. They are grounded in a specific time period, which is what created nostalgia.

I'm not arguing that these designs are bad, or that the earlier designs were better. I just don't think they will ever create that kind of nostalgia, but that has nothing to do with Disney.
Thing is, what will be considered nostalgic to future generations will be completely different from what you consider nostalgia. I'm not saying everyone younger than us is gonna be nostalgic about connections, but it's very possible that many young ones in the future may consider it nostalgic. Same with HarmonioUS. I'm sure you and I consider ROE nostalgic but future generations will find HarmonioUS nostalgic if the show makes it past 5-6 years.

You know what I and many people around my age consider nostalgic? SpongeBob, early 2010's Disney Channel, Little Einsteins, Yo Gabba Gabba, Blues Clues, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, etc.

I can almost guarantee that both inside and outside of Disney, we are nostalgic about VERY different things.

I just barely consider the Electric Umbrella nostalgic but the fact that some folks are praising that place like it's the peak of what imagineers are capable of is hilarious, confusing, and did I mention hilarious?

I was replying to someone and speaking in general. Over the course of time. The trend on this forum re: Zach.

Accountability takes many forms. If he's using his personal account to post drivel from Disney's PR shack, he should expect a response, good or bad, to said drivel. The response may include associating the drivel that he has not personally or professionally distanced himself from within the confines of his social media presence with him and his name. He's created a reputation for himself by not distinguishing himself from what the PR shack produces. One of the consequences of this needlessly ingratiating social media strategy is that people on a forum might not hold him in the highest respect, if the quality of the work under his direction is not adequate to earn such respect.

If that's offensive to you, feel free to ring him up in your spare time and suggest that he get the PR shack to build their own Instagram accounts. Zach's not sacred, by far.

Personal Attacks.. well he is a public face of Disney, he should be able to take anything that comes his way.

Ever since his AMSR video, where he whispers over space 220 and runs around it like a wanna be "urban explorer" I decided he wasn't anything more than a PR creation.

Which... I wonder if he'd be tone deaf enough to try such a thing throughout the nooks and crannies of the Play pavilion, but I digress.

Disagree. What he says when speaking on behalf of Disney can certainly be scrutinized and criticized for its content, but that wouldn't justify personal attacks. Thinking that you can freely harass people connected to companies or projects you dislike because they "should be able to take it" is part of why the internet can be such a garbage place at times.

Idk I like how it looks. Epcot has always been (or should be a product of its time). It was retro looking in the 80s and was…well it was certainly something in the 90s. Yes it’s in Future World but I mean it looked like something you’d expect in the 90s. I feel the same vibe is being given here. It def fits the same feeling you’d find in most places classified as modern or “today”. Ideally, in 10 years it would change to reflect that era. Not everyone’s cup of tea, I get that but it’s def not worse than EU.

I think many people forget that Epcot is a theme park literally built to change practically on a decade to decade basis.

Some folks are complaining that 2020's Epcot features 2020's style architecture.

I tend to agree with all of this. This is part of the reason I think Future World might have been a bit of a misnomer in the sense that, while it did look forward, the focus was more on contemporary developments that would hopefully lead to a better future. So, while the was a definite logic to the name, I think it suggested a futuristic theme that was never quite there in the focus of the attractions or the architecture, which was also very contemporary to its time. That's why I can see people not liking contemporary aesthetic tastes and thus not liking some of the recent projects, but I struggle to understand why they're inappropriate for Epcot.

EDIT: Just in response to the above post, you can certainly make the argument it's not well executed, but I think that's a different argument to whether what they're going for is appropriate.
