Good Morning..Phew! It's 8.30 am and I'am sitting outside have breakfast in glorious sunshine with not a cloud to be seen, blue skies..Anyway,thanks to everyone congratulating me on my planned 2015 vacation..October...Thats 27 months away.. ...Even my DS has now got excited.Thats scary as last week he wasn't really wanting to go.Now it's a 360 turnaround. And my DW last night was watching videos on Mickeys not so scary parade..Whoa!..Hugs & Kissess..Whit is going on..??..I feel like I'am a daddy for the first time, what with all this Disney love from my wife & son,and all the congratulations from all of you...Freeze the story right there..Here's my question..What makes a Disney vacation so different than any other vacation.? Example. This year I booked a 10 night vacation in Andalusia at a 4 star hotel & spa..Family reaction.."Oh yea! ok honey, that'll do" was my wife's." Where are we going dad,oh you mean Spain, yawn." And when I'am asked by friends the reaction is similar." Oh that will be nice" ..Yet when I plan a WDW in over two years away,it's champagne & roses..o_O...Why? Why? Why?..

This is a great question. People don't understand why I go back every year. Nothing makes me feel happier, better, more amazing then a trip to Disney. I have been to Mexico, Canada, Ireland, and the UK as well as all over the US. Although I am always excited to go to these places, its just a different kind of excitement when you go to Disney. Not more, not less, just different. Its hard to explain. :)

See...I don't think it's just Disney. Yes, it does get that kind of reaction from people for all of the wonderful reasons that have been stated, but I think some destinations have more WOW FACTOR to the masses than others.

For example, you tell me you're going on a cruise (and the assumption would be Caribbean of some sort)...I'll be like "Oh, that's really nice." On the flip side, if you tell me you're going on an Alaskan cruise or a European cruise...you're trip just suddenly got REALLY interesting. Now, the Caribbean cruise is surely a very nice thing, but it's just not going to evoke the same kind of reaction as the other options noted.

It even happens with national parks. I remember a friend talking about her trip to Great Smokey Mountain National Park, but when others chimed in talking Yellowstone and Grand Teton...it became evident that a trip to the Smokies just did carry the same luster as the other two.

@figmentfan423 noted Hershey Park and I think that works really well with this. i.e. Hershey Park is a nice fun place, but it's never going to get the WOW you'll get by saying you're going to WDW.

@real mad hatter compared the reaction with Spain and while I've heard wonderful things about visiting Spain, even certain European countries and cities get more WOW reactions than others. I recall after our 2000 European vacation, I wanted to talk about how much I loved Vienna and Innsbruck, but places like Paris and Rome were what they wanted to hear about b/c those had the perceived WOW to them.

So, Disney is a whole lotta WOW :D
