I really don't want to start a new debate on the ride, but I found it interesting to hear the imagineer at the end talk about how seimens and disney hope people can walk away from the ride with a hope or feeling for their/the future. Well as it seems to omany people walk off laughing and giggling and probably not give a care as to what they just saw going up the ride, but rather what they just saw going down the ride, I somehow think this hope by Seimens and Disney will be lost.
Now as I have said before there are many things that I feel were done right with the SSE: The wand and stars came off yay! Does the entrance plaza look that great in my opinion, no, especially when it can't compare to the beautiful job they did with the SSE entrance area. New paint, new music, new lights, plants, flowers, palm trees, all is beautiful. If they could extend that asthetic and put that in the main entrance, there would be some nice, clean, sleek, and welcoming things to see. Not, not EPCOT Center 1982 all over again, but the spirit of nice wide open uncluttered areas done with modern Epcot.
How about the ride itself. The music is quite lovely, especially since they have continued to work on toning down the narration, and enhancing the sound effects and musical score in the show scenes.
The cast members uniforms, while in my opinion not very modern like they have done with the rest of the new SSE area, are still a vast improvement over the AT&T costumes.
The load room has its light pannels working again, the vehicles have been cleaned, and restored, but some have had problems with the touch screen, and thus been closed off.
The entrance corridor still has the 1982 star ceilings with new flat screens new graphics and one new male voice providing all the safety speils.
If this is what the ascent tunnel looks like now, I am so for it!!! It looks like we are on a spaceship traveling through a space mountain-esque corridor and into time and space itself.
It looks like from the video we pass the photo booth and then enter a 1982 esque field of stars. If this remains true than what I saw in January is that the stars gradually disappear and become almost pitch black with the flashes of lightning. When I saw this in January I was very impressed! :sohappy:
The AA's look great, the lighting and set pieces, and I do hope the newspaper boy can come back to his rightful place.
The matrix tunnel is a let down for me, as is 180 top as still to this day we have no moon base, space station, nada...and a random worm hole of blue dots with the old space station and window still in there...:zipit:
As for Judi Dench, I have defended her before. She is like our host, narrator and guide. A mother or grandmother figure with knowledge about our past. Rather than being told a story, we are in the story and she is there to guide us.
What I don't enjoy are various lines she has to read that I feel have dumbed down the ride to appeal to children and teenagers ABCs, wide web, back up system, etc
As for the descent.....we have the option to choose a language...why can't we have the option to turn our screen off. Project Tomorrow is filled with so many neat and cool things to do that entertain, inform, and inspire in a new 21st century EPCOT Center spirit that doesn't blandly inform us about tomorrow, that I see no issue why adding a computer program into the touch screen would be a problem. That way everyone is happy! Average Joes and Expo Seekers !
That way I can enjoy the descent, sure there may be some people laughing and giggling and some light coming from the touch screens that are turned on, but for me I can enjoy the beautiful music that can be better heard in the descent, and hopefully they can turn back on those star curtains because allegedly they are currently turned off leaving the whole area pitch black, and if they can add more fiber optics, and make these prisms or triangles work than obviously the descent would be us on SSE itself and its exterior arranging and rearraning itself as we float through the stars.
It's not that I want everything stuck in 1982, there is alot that I support with this ride, but to truly finish it off and make it better, I don't see how adding more effects into the descent and allowing us to turn our touch screen off would be a problem...when guest turn out would mean not only would the average joe like it but the disney fans probaly would too and reride it again and again. See you in the future!
