Confirmed Norovirus, returned last week

Hi,

We left WDW on Friday and BAM, my 6 year old gets Norovirus. We just returned from the ER about an hour ago, as he has been horribly ill since Saturday.

Anyone else get sick? We stayed in the Campgrounds in our RV, and cooked a majority of our own food. We DID do a character breakfast at The Beach Club, and I think that is where he got it from and as I have heard from other folks, they got sick there too...

Your not crazy, my family got sick at WDW too. We arrived on the 12th everything was going great, then we check my daughter into the kids club at BC while we went to dinner at Rose and Crown(we were staying at PORS btw). That night I woke up at 3 am and spent the rest of it sick...very sick. The next day after sleeping and being sick most of the day I helped my wife get the kids to MK where I then almost threw up on mainstreet, so I checked into the first aid station and fell asleep for two hours(helped a lot) we then headed back. After not eating for the day I started to feel better. The next day my daughter was super sick and stayed that way till basically we got home so we basically missed 3 days at the parks. It is what it is, but I know that the first aid station had tons of sick people, most vomiting so something was going on.

Ugh sorry. I sympathize. My whole family came down with the influenza A last year on our last day there, we barely made it home. It was the worst, we were in bed for two weeks. We all ended up in the ER for chest x-rays...the kids had mild pneumonia, we were ok. The ER doc was pretty certain that it came from Disney based on the incubation period etc. He said that's common when you travel anywhere, new environment, people from all over, so germs you aren't used to, etc. Don't feel attacked. Yes, you can get sick anywhere, but yes, there is some increased risk at WDW for certain illnesses due to the nature of the place. Anyway, I hope you are all ok, that is a scary one to get.

I am so sorry your child is sick! I hope he gets better quickly!

On a side note, I think you could have picked it up anywhere in WDW, not just that one restaurant. Yes people get sick at Disney all the time, and I know how serious noro virus can be, but you can't necessisarily pick 1 place in such a huge area to pinpoint the exact location he picked it up on. It coul have happens anywhere at anytime! So many different people in one small place and germs and etc...

I am not trying to attack you, it just doesn't make sense. Unless the Disney claim line specifically told you it came from there an there are other reports coming in from the resort, you cant really pinpoint it. I think it needs to be left at "it happened in WDW" and take precautions to stay healthy when traveling.

I do not think it is fair to put the blame on that specific restaurant without any hard evidence or proof!

Ironically, it's all this "sanitizing" that is causing us to be anti-biotic resistant!

I agree. though in my family I am viewed as the nut job because I refuse to use all the hand sanitizers at the drop of a hat. The irony is that my wife that should be the poster girl for hand sanitizers gets sick much more than I do even though I wont bat an eye at eating food in a park or other place without first washing my hands like a surgeon. Unless I see someone coughing up a lung I'm just not going to worry about germs.

I never use hand sanitizers, honestly. When I use the facilities, I wash my hands (which I try to do before eating also, but that doesn't always happen). Other than that, I try not to touch my eyes/nose/mouth when I think about it (subconsciously or not). Never needed the stuff before and as far as I can see - it's not doing anything now. Germs are good (for most of us) - they build up the immune system and are a fact of life.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, it doesn't do jack for NV anyway... Which is ironic, as I think cruise ships are some of the biggest pushers/users of the stuff! The dispensers are positively everywhere onboard. Though I'm curious now, how the sanitizer craze truly started.

I heartily recommend George Carlin's "Fear of Germs" skit. :D
