from what i heard at another forum. it's still open (but it won't be open during HHN), and unfortunately, there's still no official closing date.

There has not been announcement as to the full closure of the attraction. Half of the attraction has been closed and gutting has started with it. I have heard significant confrimation that The Simpsons is what is INDEED coming (it was still up in the air for a while). The announcement and closure will probably come at the end of HHN, and the new attraction could ACTUALLY possibly be open by the Holidays.

You heard Simpsons? I heard on Wednesday that they still didn't know... But I do know that they have codenamed it "Fish" ...

I heard the code name change a few weeks back. It was originally "Squishy" (like that's not obvious). The change caught me a bit off-guard, and I thought for a good while it signified that Fast and the Furious was what was going in instead.

However, my contact had a conversation with someone designing a certain element of whatever the new attraction is, and though it wasn't directly said, all signs pointed to Springfield. Granted, this is all vauge (and purposely so), but I've been through a lot with my contact, and know that they wouldn't spout information to me that they didn't believe to be true.

Notice when you're in the queue on any level, you only go to the left side? Thats why all three levels can still be open.

Its not the levels that are gutted. Two Imax domes make up the building, and the dome on the right hand side has been gutted since August. The dome on the left hand side is still operational, and has cars on all three levels.

I'm going to be so disapointed if it is the Simpsons. I don't mind the Simpson's being in the park, they just need to overlay Jimmy Neutron with them, not BTTF. BTTF needs something else entirely. I'd rather it not be another simulator ride like BTTF was and something new and exciting. I don't think the Simpsons will bring them the big marketing thing they're looking for.

From my understanding, Universal was doing all it could to create the quickest turnaround on an attraction, ever. That obviously entails stripping one side of the attraction while it is still open, and just opening THAT until the other is finished. Screamscape has pictures of Delorians outback, which prove that the stripping is occuring (and I was told two months ago about it, so there is no telling just how far they are). Technically, if they could complete the internal re-theme (in at least the split-off rooms and the four rooms on the right side... which is only 15 rooms) and get the attraction itself finished while working on the outside, they could have it finished in two months (who knows... the right screen maybe halfway done already). It would require a lot of work... but is still VERY possible.

Let me say one thing. If Universal does not send BTTF off properly after giving Kongfrontation a special event, I will write the resort. Sure Kong had its fans, but comparing these two attractions is like comparing the Tower of Terror with Dumbo.

I can't believe The Simpsons is actually coming in. This property is more out of date than BTTF.

Ridiculous. For the Simpsons to come in, that whole area needs major work and re-theming. The whole World Expo idea should just be killed because it won't work anymore.

I wish it was King Kong (2005) personally. This is really the only recent Universal property that would work well in the parks. And in case you were wondering, the Kongfrontation attraction was based on the 70's version of the film that is VERY different from the Peter Jackson classic.

I know BTTF is somewhat outdated and could use an update, but I just can picture the park without it. And because I have NO faith in a Simpsons replacement, I am very down on this replacement. I think ROTM is very overrated, but I think it was a very worthty replacement of a fan favorite.

Universal doesn't really care about theming or upkeep. Just look at how IOA's theming quality has went down since 1999. The whole park feels run down now compared to what it used to be.

You're absolutely right. I don't know what is going on outside of the attraction. I do know that the most effective plot of land for a brand new attraction (new show building and everything) is in the World Expo area. It's possible they have a long term idea that may be starting to take effect that will re-imagine (as it were) that section of the park.

I'm not stoked about what this attraction will do for Uni... but it's at least something.
