Does anyone know of any good, cheap (under $35) computer microphones that don't require a USB port?
I only want it to record sounds and have voice conferences on Yahoo so it doesn't have to be that great.
Thanks,
Kevin
PS. I would prefer to buy it from Amazon :)

Do you know where to find that usually?

Most of the time they are right by the headphone jack.

I have a headphone jack on my speakers, but only a headphone jack.
I'll try to get back to you about the CPU tower jack cause I have a desk which makes it hard to do anything with the tower cause it's in the back of the desk :(

You should have a microphone jack on your sound card. I looks just like the headphone jack that's on your speaker. How many USB ports do you have. If you have one that isn't broken you can buy a USB hub to plug into it and plug everything into the hub.

As far as the cost of a microphone, it should be less than $10 at just about any store that carries them.

Okay, got the USB ports.
Another question:
My mom got Quicken and got a free Lexar Jumpdrive Portable USB Storage thing, and it goes in your USB port and acts like a floppy disk. But I can't figure out how to work the darn thing.
I put it in the USB port, but now I don't know what to do.

Ya got me on that one. Never heard of it. Didn't any instructions come with it? I'm sure someone here will be able to help you.

Actually, surprisingly, no!
It's just the little thing, no instructions at all.
I was really surprised about that :brick:

Did you use one of the USB ports on the keyboard? A lot depends on the type of computer you have. Keyboard USB ports may not be able to power the device.

USB ports not only supply a connection, they also provide power. A low power device (such as a mouse) will work well in a keyboard USB port. A high power device (such as an external drive) will seldom work on a keyboard USB port. You need to plug the drive into a USB port that is in the tower. Again, a lot depends on your make and model of computer.

Do you think a microphone or a Wacom tablet would be okay for a keyboard USB port?

I used to have one of those for my old digital camera. Go to www.digitalfilm.com and download the appropriate drivers... Once they're installed (directions should be on the website) everything should be plug and play.

In regards to the original question... right next to where your speakers plug in, there should be some other jacks. They're usually color-coded. Green is typically for speakers, and Red is typically for microphone.
