Trip Report **Completed** It's My Birthday (and its a hot one...)!

Hey guys my computer isn't here yet but I really want to start my TR so I'm slowly uploading pictures hoping my computer can handle it  So, it will be a slow start but here we go!!

Who?
Just my Mom and I (Mary and Megan)...as if you don't know us by now :)

When?
July 4- 14th!

Where?
The Polynesian :)

Why?
I'm off all summer and I always wanted to go to Disney for my Birthday so why not!

T-1 Day
I finished residency the Friday before leaving but this day was insane for me trying to get a bunch of training and applications done before I left. I was also trying to finish ALL our packing...since we are not light packers...:joyfull::joyfull: These are just my two suitcases

Anyway we were finally all set to go and we were out for a quick walk before bed when my sister called me and told me Max (my nephew) was having trouble walking. :( Long story short she had to take him to the ER but it all turned out OK and it was just swelling in his knee from his recent ear infection. Luckily we knew all was OK by like 10:30 and could still get some rest!

Day 1 - July 4, 2017
We had a later flight (aka not 6 am) so we could sleep in a bit, but we were going to Disney so I still woke up at 6am :) I still didn't drag myself out of bed until 7 am though, don't worry :)
We got ready and took our usual "kidnapping" pictures :)

Soon enough it was 8 am and we were off to the airport !
Southwest in our airport had a new self check in thing so we tried it out. This gave my flash backs to when I flew out of Canada to Punta Cana and struggled with self check-in but this was much easier and it only took me a few minutes to figure out the luggage tags :) The whole thing, however, made my Mom very nervous so she was glad I was doing it :p
When we brought our luggage to the counter the worker was saying that we MUST be going to Disney World (based off the DME tags and the Minnie Mouse suitcases) and how he and his coworkers go to Disney several times a year too :) We were lucky to have TSA pre-check and the TSA worker was so sweet about our matching shirts and saying she loved them. Anyway, the whole experience was very pleasant and I looked at my phone when we were through and it was 8:27 am. Drove to airport, checked luggage, and went through security all in 27 minutes :)
We were pretty hungry so checked out the Anchor Bar's breakfast menu but we were not feeling it (and we are creatures of habit) so went to get our usual bagel breakfast :)
DSC_3678_1.jpg

Petey was there of course
DSC_3680_1.jpg

We enjoyed our bagels then headed to our gate to wait. It was a VERY slow airport day (probably since its a holiday) so it was kind of nice to relax in the quiet. Soon enough we were on the plane!
When I got up in the morning my Lambie (yes I have one) was on the floor by my carry on. I had no idea how she got there but it was like a sign that I had to bring her so I did :)

Magic Bands unite!
DSC_3685_1.jpg

We were lucky enough to be seated in row 3 and there was a dog behind us which made it even better :)
Our flight was actually about 20 minutes longer than usual but we entertained ourselves with The Keepers from Netflix (love that you can download stuff to use offline) and we had a fantastic flight crew!
You all know what happens first at the airport (well besides the bathroom...)! The fonorail!!

Day 7 continued
Rolls
DSC_4703.jpg

And a pile of gross green spices to go with it :depressed::joyfull:
DSC_4704.jpg

Our waitress was pretty bad. I was considering ordering an appetizer but she didn't even give me the opportunity to order one before swiftly taking our orders for entrees. I am not the aggressive type so I just let it go. Either way she essentially ignored us the whole time we were there.
It should come as no surprise that I ordered the Charred Strip Steak
DSC_4705.jpg

I'm drooling over this right now. It was so so yummy as usual :)
My Mom ordered Spaghetti and meatballs :)
DSC_4706.jpg

She said it was really good but she does think its silly how much it costs and how little spaghetti you actually get.
We really enjoyed our meal as always despite the poor service. They ignored my Birthday again too
Oh well, we will still be back :)
DSC_4707.jpg

Its dead back in this area!
DSC_4708.jpg

I was able to get yet another TSM FP so we headed back over there
We got the third track again! Giant Night Light :)
DSC_4712.jpg

We actually were able to pick up another TSM FP so we went on again! If you are keeping track thats 4 times in one day :)
Anyway, my whole goal was to see the new projection show and the Star Wars fireworks. However, while we were waiting for our 4th ride my Mom called slinky dog slime dog and I knew she was really tired and we should head out . I was tired too so I was OK with leaving too. I had pushed us a bit too much the day before I think.
PhotoPass_Visiting_STUDIO_403483530961.JPG

So, we headed back to the Poly and we were able to see HEE from our staircase before heading to bed :)

Next up: Epcot and Day 8!

We saw a PP CM wander out before we got on The Seas so we got in line. He was miserable which was funny because he just started. He also stepped in gum which didn't help :D
Anyway we were standing and he made us sit down awkwardly around the rocks :)

Apparently the only picture I have of The Seas is of these manatees :joyfull:

After the Seas we headed towards World Showcase
View attachment 217702
Is this booth always there? I thought it was for Food and Wine or Flower and Garden but now it seems like its always open
View attachment 217703
There was a bit of The Birds situation going on
View attachment 217704
We decided on La Cantina for lunch
We both got the kids empanadas meals :) So yum!
View attachment 217705
We originally sat outside but my Mom has a fear of birds and there were quite a few as you can see so we went inside and got a nice table by the water. It was actually more pleasant inside anyway with the AC :)
View attachment 217706
Bonus....it was empty inside :)
View attachment 217707
After eating we headed into the Mexican pavilion and onto the 3 Caballeros
View attachment 217708
I love this ride. I hope the rumors about it going away are false but I'm sure they are probably true since it seems like Coco would be a good fit:(

Next up: World Showcase continued
I'm doing this ride for the first time in September. Very excited.

Well I figured it was time to start the healing process (from Wishes) so my Mom and I headed to our usual bridge to watch Happily Ever After (much better than the beach in my opinion).
We had a lot of company with us! I started a trend

Well, I didn't hate it. I will say that. Obviously its not the same because we couldn't see the castle projections but overall I thought it was fine. I did not care for the opening and closing music but thought they chose great movies to represent and liked some of the subtle nods to Wishes! Plus, I LOVE Tangled and was happy to hear that was included. Some of the shapes of the fireworks were really cool! So overall first time seeing it I thought it was good, but not great! After this (and after a 1000 mosquito bites) we headed off to bed!

Next up: day 3
Do you mind if I ask where you watched the fireworks from? I'm looking for a good non-park spot to watch the show from on my birthday. Thanks!

Love your trip reports!

Thank you!

I'm doing this ride for the first time in September. Very excited.

Which ride?

That's what happened to my mom :)

Haha that darn movie!

Of course, we watch them from the Poly on the walkway between the Great Ceremonial House and the outside buildings (Like Fiji). Essentially its like a bridge over the water. Its right below 'Ohana so you can hear the music better from there than you can hear on the beach :)

So,Brook and I have never seen Avatar. We have no interest. What is the deal with these banshee things? I see kids with them on Facebook all the time....

We are however, excited to see Pandora and ride both new rides. Is seeing the movie essential?
I was just about to ask this same question. I have never seen the movie, nor do I have interest in seeing it. Hopefully, that does not detract from my enjoyment of the land next month (also, I just realized my trip is next month!!! :) )

Day 8 - July 11, 2017
We got up and had our usual waffle breakfast at Capt. Cooks before heading to Epcot. We made it in time for opening and decided to head over to Soarin'. The wait was listed as 30 minutes so we deiced to wait. I have no pictures apparently :banghead: In the end we only waited 20 minutes. Hooray!
When you are in The Land its hard not to do Living with the Land so we headed over there
DSC_4724.jpg

The poor interns were doing some heavy duty cleaning of the greenhouses this morning. I didn't take their picture because they looked miserable enough :p
DSC_4725.jpg

Next up was Figment. I can't remember if we had a FP or if we just wanted AC (as usual...haha)
DSC_4727.jpg

DSC_4728.jpg

I wanted to see the Pixar Short Film Festival since they changed out the movies so we hopped over there next
DSC_4731.jpg
DSC_4735.jpg

I'm happy they kept the Mickey cartoon, but it was nice to see a change for the other two films! We saw Piper before Finding Dory but it was nice to see again. We had never seen Feast before. It was so cute!!!
I think my Mom was on the phone at this point so I waited for her while watching the jumping fountains
DSC_4737.jpg

Hello ducky!
DSC_4739.jpg

Our next FP of the morning was Turtle Talk with Crush so we headed over there. Sadly we waited for about 20 minutes before it became apparent that it wasn't working. They never made an official announcement but everyone kind of figured it out on their own and left.
Our last FP was for Frozen so we headed there instead

Yay!! Thats so exciting that its coming up so quickly for you! I think it helped to see Avatar but I don't 100 percent think you need to see it. I don't think it will detract from enjoying the rides or the beauty of the area, but I do think it helps you to understand what stuff is when you know the movie.

What are the pink and blue towels that you all have around your necks?

Those are Frogg Toggs. Cooling clothes that we use when we get extra hot :)

I probably would have too had it not been quite as long of a trip/had the button not annoyed me :) You will love spending your Birthday in Disney *if you haven't done so before!
