I just saw this show for the first time on my last trip also. I don't know what I was waiting for it was absolutely brilliant.

Who doesn't love a fire dancer!! Check out the Luau some time...that guy is great
Completely agree! I'm not sure why I never went!

Are you talking about the Luau at the Polynesian? I saw that back in 2006 and it was awesome! I would love to see that again sometime. Maybe the next trip, I don't think I scared Mark too much this time, I'm sure I can convince him to go again! :D

Looking at your gorilla pics, we were at the Cincinnati Zoo just a week or so prior to Harambe being killed. Sad the way that whole incident happened. Sorry for the Debbie Downer. Great report so far!
It's terrible, but that was actually all I could think about as well. Anytime we saw the fencing around the lakes I couldn't help but think about the alligator attack as well. So awful. I cannot imagine what either set of parents went through.

It was probably a good decision we decided to leave a little earlier than planned. As soon as we emerged from FotLK the skies turned a nasty shade of gray and then came the rain. Right on time!

Our next stop of the night would be dinner at AKL. When I was doing all of the preplanning for this trip, the thing I slaved over the most was the Table Service reservations. I knew there was a chance we would be able to get the free dining promo at the time of year we were going so I wanted to do my research and find some awesome spots for us to eat while there. I can't stand it when people say there is no good food at Disney. You must not be looking hard enough; unless you're at Hollywood Studios and then I will cut you some slack. :hilarious:

I chose our dinner at Sanaa after perusing the menu and reading several great reviews. Mark and I are both fairly adventurous when it comes to food, so I was really looking forward to this meal after everything I had read. I was also excited to spot some animals! I also chose it for our day at AK to make it a bit more convenient for travel purposes. The only downfall was, when I made the reservation the AK night-time happenings were not going on yet. I really would have liked to see the Tree of Life Awakenings, but it wouldn't work out with our timing. This was the only night we would be able to see the Main Street Electrical Parade and that was a must. It became even more of a must-do after the announcement that it would be gone after this October! With Rivers of Light not being released yet, I'm not that upset about not being able to see AK at night. Again, just another excuse to come back after Pandora is completed!! :D

Speaking of Pandora...obligatory construction picture while we waited for the bus.

Kidani Village was the first stop the bus made, so we decided to hop off and see where Sanaa was actually located before exploring AKL.

I LOVE lanterns, so I had to take this picture

After our shopping we still had some time to kill before our reservation, so we stopped by the bar at Sanaa to relax for a bit :)

The bartender convinced me to try the African Starr Mojito and I'm glad she did! It was a nice twist on a regular mojito. Mark actually got a drink with me this time, and he opted for a regular mojito.

I had posted the picture above on Instagram and my sister-in-law text me saying she was so proud of me for double fisting. I told her one of them was actually Mark's and she said she believes I ordered two drinks for myself over Mark ordering a drink for himself :hilarious::hilarious: I'm not even offended.

Right as we finished our drinks it was time for our reservation. I didn't even have to request a seat by the window. They had one ready for us! Just like the reviews said, the place was fairly empty, which is a shame because it is beautiful and the food was great...but I'm getting ahead of myself.

I couldn't help but be blown away by the view when you walk into the restaurant. It's just gorgeous. The afternoon rain had stopped and the sun was back out but you could tell the sun would be setting soon, it was just perfect. Then this little guy was here to greet us as we got to our table. He would make several more appearances before dinner was over :)

Such a beautiful view. Definitely the 2nd best view of the trip, but again, I am getting ahead of myself.

I decided to get another drink at dinner and I always like to ask the waiter/waitress/bartender for a recommendation and our waitress (who was excellent) asked if I like coconut. Why yes I do! So she suggested the Kande Coconut Cooler.

And here she is! It was SO good! It was like drinking a dessert. A delicious, coconut infused, alcoholic dessert :D

I think that is really fun, too. I recall seeing it at Zawadi Marketplace at AK Lodge (gift shop).

Also, I agree with you that the Festival of the Lion King is the best show on Disney property. Love it!!
I'm actually disappointed I had never seen it before! It was our second favorite act of the trip, but that's only because we got to see the Sanderson sisters in the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular at MNSSHP. :)

I would love to see Hocus Pocus next year (assuming that Disney does it again), but my group probably won't have time to do it. The crowd levels that MNSSHP is attracting is also a bit of a turn off for us.

We also had a fabulous Sanaa experience. I wonder if your bartender was the same one we had. She was really amazing at her job.

The crowd levels and heat were really high in our opinion, too, especially for the time of year.

In all my research of Sanaa, everyone said we had to try the Indian-style Bread Service. Mark and I both love naan, so that was an easy decision. We figured for a few dollars more we would just get all nine accompaniments, and I'm so glad we did!

Look how scrumptious! Five bread choices, Traditional Naan, Garlic-Ginger Naan, Spiced Naan, Onion Kucha and Paneer Paratha. They were all delicious. I think the Garlic-Ginger was both of our favorites, but it was hard to pick.
Sanaa 1.jpg

The accompaniments began left to right with a spicier taste selection. The bottom is the Spicy Jalpeno-Lime Pickle, not our favorite, but has a nice kick to it without being overwhelming. The middle is the Red Chile Sambal, also very good. The third at the top is the Garlic Pickle. We love garlic so this was a nice option for us, but still not our favorite out of them. The option on the right was the Coriander Chutney and this was both of our favorite option. It was so good! Great flavor, not overly oily. This one also wasn't spicy for anyone wanting to try it.
Sanaa 3.jpg

The next three options were a bit on the sweeter side. The first on the left is the Tamarind Chutney, which I remember liking. The second in the middle was the Tomato-Date Jam. Not my cup of tea. Too sweet for the Naan for my liking. The third on the right was the Mango Chutney. Again, not my favorite. I prefer the savory vs. sweet.
Sanaa 2.jpg

The last two were more classic options. The top right corner is the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus which was delicious. It's hard to go wrong with a good hummus. The last option was both of our second favorite. It was like a tzatziki sauce which was a nice balance with the spicier naan. SO good! I highly recommend the bread service for anyone who goes to Sanaa.
Sanaa 4.jpg

Even though we were already getting full from the bread-service, we still found room for our main course :D

I forgot to take a picture of the menu, but I got the Berbere Braised Lamb Shank with Hominy Mash, Scented Greens, and Tandoor Vegetables. Why do I keep posting these pictures so close to lunch?! :hungry::hungry:
Sanaa 5.jpg

Sanaa 7.jpg

It was SO good. The lamb was incredibly tender, so much so that I was able to cut it with my fork, the Hominy mash was a great pairing and the portion was very generous. My ONLY complaint is that I would have loved more of the roasted veggies, but that's just because they were deeee-lish!

Mark ordered the Braaivleis, a South African Braai Sample Plate, a Trio of Grilled Meats with Seasonal Accompaniments

Sanaa 6.jpg

Sanaa 9.jpg

Mark really enjoyed his meal as well. He said the meat was fantastic, it was cooked to his liking and had a nice flavor. He did say his carrots were a little on the harder side, but they were still good.

I would definitely order my dish again!

We actually watched the show twice because we loved it so much. To be fair, Hocus Pocus is also my favorite Halloween movie and Mark loves villains so it was perfect for us. I completely get where you are coming from though! We weren't originally going to add on the MNSSHP tickets to our trip, but then we figured neither one of us had ever gone before, and it would be fun to be in the park with potentially lesser crowds and enjoy the Halloween atmosphere. I think if we were there during that time of year again we wouldn't buy tickets a second time. It was a fun night and the parade was awesome as well, but the money we spent on the tickets isn't worth it for us.

The crowds weren't THAT bad, but we also don't care about getting pictures with characters so we concentrated on the rides and the shows. I'll cover that more when I get to that post, but I definitely think the crowd numbers are increasing at that time of year in general!

Our bartender was British, but I cannot remember her name. She was very sweet though and made really good drinks. Mine had a nice kick to it! There's nothing I hate more than spending $9 on a drink and not being able to even detect alcohol haha.

I had a feeling going in that we would be experiencing some higher crowd levels than we were used to, but I was trying to hope for the best. They still weren't bad at all (I've been there plenty of times on spring vacation to know what crazy crowds look like), but much more than I would have cared for. The lower crowds are a huge reason we generally make a trip to Orlando in late September/October.

Mark and I cleaned our plates at this meal! Everything was delicious! Even though we were beyond full at this point, we weren't going to turn away dessert :)

After we ordered, we had some more visitors from our animal friends. You can start to see the giraffes sneaking their way over to the right of the picture next to the trees. I was hoping they would come by. The whole time they had been on the complete opposite side of the hotel.

I think he was enjoying his dinner too!
Sanaa 10.jpg

After enjoying the giraffes, our desserts arrived :hungry:

Mark ordered the African Povu, which was like a chocolate mousse.
Sanaa 8.jpg

I opted for the Dessert Trio which had the Afrika Povu, a Lemon Lychee Tart, and Seasonal Kulfi

Sanaa 9.jpg

It was all very good! I think next time I would get the African Povu though as that was my favorite out of the three. I'm pretty sure most of my desserts on the trip were all chocolate-based ;)

Overall impressions of Sanaa: Our waitress, Amy, was a doll. She recommended a great drink for me and said the lamb is her favorite after I had ordered it. She was just very sweet and well versed in the menu. Mark and I both rate the meal a 9 just because his carrots were a little harder and I would have liked more veggies. The wait staff and the ambiance/view were all a 10! I would absolutely make reservations here again for our next trip. Even though it is a bit far away, it was worth it.

So far out of our two TS dinners I put Sanaa above the Yachtsman purely for the ambiance and the view. The food at both locations were equally good to me. Sanaa might even have the edge there because it's not a Signature Dining Experience so the prices are a bit more reasonable.

we're going for 2 weeks in march/april, so it makes sense to get the annual, we said maybe we'd take a weekend trip around F&W/MNSSHP time! I'd love it if they were doing hocus pocus again
At this point I would be shocked if they didn't. It's such a great show and it's gotten great reviews from everyone. And with the second movie coming out, it makes sense to keep it. You'll have to let us know if you end up going and get to see it!

After enjoying Sanaa it was time for our next adventure. That night would be one of the night's we spent at MK. When I had first been planning the trip MK was supposed to be open until 10 pm that night, and as I had said earlier, it might have been our only chance to see MSEP and Wishes That is why I planned AK for that morning since I knew it wouldn't be an all-day park (this was before any night-time happenings were announced) and we would have plenty of time to head back and enjoy the MK for a bit.

Well, about a month before our trip I was checking park times as I would do randomly every now and again, and I was SO excited to see the times had changed for MK that day...in a positive way! They added in EMH until 1:00 a.m. that night! Woo hoo!!!! That would be the latest EMH the entire trip. I know they generally don't stay open that late when it's supposed to be a slower time of year. My guess is maybe they extended the hours because of the MSEP going away? They added in a second showing of it that night as well.

Since it was going to be such a late night we agreed to go back to the hotel for a quick nap. After Sanaa we hopped on the first park bus that came, which was AK and that was nice since it was a 5 minute ride! The bus gods must have been looking down on us, because as soon as we got off the AK bus, a POP bus appeared! We were the only ones in line so we got right on, and I said jokingly "we can leave now" and to my utter shock, the bus driver closed the doors and started to take off! :jawdrop: I had to take a picture just to prove we were the only ones on the bus.

MK 1.jpg

When we got back to the hotel we had time for about a 20 minute power-nap because we both wanted to shower after sweating our way around AK that morning ;). After we were freshened up we headed out for the buses. We waited about 15 minutes for a MK bus to arrive, which had been the typical wait, but we got to MK around 8:00 or 8:30. After going through security (I've forgotten to mention that Mark and I were both randomly selected for extra security every.single.time. we went into one of the parks ) all hell broke loose!

I've never experienced something so awful at the parks. I don't know if I will even be able to accurately describe the situation to give the full understanding. Remember how I mentioned they added in a second showing of MSEP that night? Well, we walked right into it. We got to the park right at the beginning of the parade. Poor timing on our part, but I also completely forgot the MSEP is one of the only parades to START at Main Street. Needless to say we were shoe-horned among a sea of people.

We were all herded to the right of MSUSA. As expected, there was a sea of people lined up on MSUSA to watch the parade, but they were taking up more than half of the sidewalk. THEN, you had a sea of people trying to leave the park. Add on top of that the sea of people trying to enter the park for EMH and it was a complete nightmare. As soon as I saw this I immediately lead Mark into the confectionary to try and walk through the shops and avoid that mess. Well, several other people had that same idea and as soon as we were making some headway, we had to exit because the next shop wasn't connected. We had only made it about 1/4 of the way down Main Street.

At this point, I would have just stayed put and tried to watch the parade, but when I say I was jammed between people, I'm not exaggerating. I had Mark in front of me, a nice woman with a few children pressed into my back, a man with a stroller who rolled over my foot on several occasions to my left, and then a wall to my right. And surrounding all of them were more people trying to make their way to their destination. We were all stuck there for at least 10 minutes unable to move. During that time we all got shoved though, and that was fun. The lady behind me apologized for bumping into me but I completely understood. I told her not to worry as I know it was a chain reaction from her getting shoved. We both commented how we have never seen the park this bad and this poorly planned. We were packed like sardines. FINALLY a CM came through telling everyone to keep moving. Brilliant! That was easier said than done though. Some people started shuffling along so Mark grabbed my hand and started leading a path as best as he could. I immediately responded by grabbing the lady's hand behind me so she could try and get her kids out of the herd. After being pushed and shoved we finally made it to Uptown Jewelers.

I lead us in there just to get away from the crowds and have a little more breathing room. I also figured we could continue on through Main Street Bakery and at least get out a bit further. WRONG AGAIN! They had the doorway to MSB roped off with a CM standing guard. o_O It takes quite a bit to get Mark worked up, he keeps a calm and rational head pretty well, but as soon as we got there and saw it was roped off we both pounced on the CM and told him he needed to open the rope and let everyone through immediately. Several other people with us agreed emphatically. The CM said he couldn't because it was a safety issue, and we immediately responded by explaining it was a safety issue to not open the pathway. People were getting shoved outside and several fights were about to break out. Mark actually witnessed a man screaming at a little kid because the boy was pushed into him even though it wasn't his fault. :(

The CM continued on in his Disney way and politely told us that we couldn't exit through the bakery. So, I asked for a manager. She gave us the same safety line. Something about if the wall to MSB caved in, everyone would be trapped in there and it's a safety concern. This is when Mark pointed out that if the wall does cave in, we would all be trapped anyways because you can't move outside. In the end, a group of about 10 of us were forced to stand there until the parade ended. It was better than being on the sidewalk, but it was just insane. I was close to just saying, let's go back to the hotel, but I really didn't want that nonsense to ruin our night.

We finally made it out of MSUSA and we just kept walking toward the castle along with a mass of other people. Celebrate the Magic would be starting in about 10 minutes so I figured we should just grab whatever spot we could and set up for the fireworks. Once we stopped, we both looked at each other, took a deep breath and tried shaking off that nightmare.
