Comparing WDW to other theme parks

I wondered how others felt about visiting other theme parks after experiencing WDW. I have found that the other parks always seem sub par to WDW. I seem to notice the trash laying on the ground, the attitude of the employees, the detail in the attractions. What have you noticed and where? Have any of you seen parks that are on the same level as WDW?

I used to go to several parks around the Philly area but since first going to WDW in 2001, never went back to them. I dunno, after you've done the best, feels weird doing anything less.

Well, I went to Six Flags Great Adventure....once. Never again.

We like to go to Hershey Park every so often, but my kids have outgrown the smaller rides & really aren't into those wild coasters. (but there are other things to do there).

WDW is #1 on our list.

I've noticed other theme parks trying to do the whole "theme-line" idea, but it just never works like Disney's do. I don't know if its lack of thought or just lack of financial support for the lines, but Disney's lines just don't seem so bad when there's something to look at :)

Great Adv. is terrible, absolutely horrible--and yet I buy a season pass. Well, it is something to do with friends during Fright Fest when the parks are empty and you have free will of most rides.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg, however, is a very excellent park. It's beautifully landscaped and well put together--they usually win awards for being "America's Most Beautiful Theme Park" at least 8 years in a row recently I'm thinking, not sure. True, they do have more carnival style rides, but Disney has been investing in a lot of Dumbo clones recently AND dino-rama. The rollercoasters are top notch and also themed nicely, consistently ranked in the top 15 coasters each year. They have motion simulators, 4D shows, themed coasters, kiddie rides, and carnival style rides as mentioned, but no dark rides.

It's a really swell park evoking the same feelings as World Showcase. However, the downfall is that tho everything in each country is authentic, they lack an abundance of authentic cuisine to each country, and the workers are not from the country they work in.

I enjoy BG VA. and think others should go too. It's a nice mini vacation, usually 2 or 3 nights for us, with Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, a water park, William and Mary, and other historical and very unique things.

What I notice is that other parks have better rides than Disney. I know my favorite coaster is Millenium Force at Cedar Point. But that is all they have. Disney has the entire experience. You can satisfy your appetite for thrills at other parks, but if you want to fill your heart and mind with joy you need to go to WDW.

Not to sound mean, simply an observation, buuut

We went to IOA and Universal Studios this past summer. At around 3'o'clock we headed to Downtown Disney.

Let's just say I was never happier to see it. :D

To me, the comparison of WDW parks to other parks is much like comparing roasted chestnuts to oranges.

Everyone tends to like oranges and they have a perfect balance of sweetness, color and package. Roasted chestnuts however, while tempting when you see and smell them roasting are hideously disgusting when you actually get them and break them open to taste what little meat is in there. Oranges, especially FLORIDA oranges, are even better on the inside.

Since I dislike chestnuts so much and like almost all the citrus fruits, especially oranges I have devised my theme park camparison scale. Where Six-flags = roasted chestnut on the scale and WDW = Yummy orange. Any particular park can fall outside my chestnut to orange scale, as well and become on the bad end a "rotten" chestnut or an extra plump orange on the good end. A park may even lie in another dimension just off my scale but bounded at least in the linear chestnut-orange space dimension at the same time, in this way a park that you didn't expect much from because of its advertisements or unattractive facade or exterior could actually be really good internally, unexpectedly good and be rated as a Tangerine AND if the park hits tangerine status and at the same time has no crowds, well then my friends, we have a "Tangerine Dream" park which, when visited, is much like the experience of $ex on a real train.

And they call me mad! HA!

You guys have got it all wrong. Six Flags St. Louis is by far the worst Six Flags EVER. The parking lot is so completely covered in trash, that you'd think that they hadn't cleaned it in years. The lands are so poorly themed except for Warner Bros. Backlot and Hurricain Harbor. There's a chicago themed area, and nothing there even resembles anything in chicago. In a wild west themed area, there's air conditioners and power lines for all to see. When we stood in line for the mine train, they had set up a mechanical bull riding game, and not a single person was using it, and rap music was blasting in our ears. This place makes Worlds of Fun in Kansas city look like a master piece.

I agree. Worst Six Flags, EVER

I have to agree with some of the comments that mention cleanliness. In addition to being great overall DisneyWorld is by far the cleanest destination I have visited. I remember the first time I went to Las Vegas, I was disgusted at the filth on the strip, the casinos were clean inside but everything else was nasty.

Paramounts Kings Island is an all-around nice park. The rides are pretty good to excellent. The food cost is not excessive though the food rarely matches the theme for the area. The kids areas are top notch for rides and attractions (winner of best kids area award). Unlike Cedar point and other Thrill parks, PKI does not just build coasters that are not themed and place them anywhere. The newer "Lara Croft Tomb Raider Ride" is nicely themed and is tucked away by itself in the Rivertown Area. The waterpark, being doubled in size this year, is free with admission to the main park and has some great rides and kids area.

As to comparing it to WDW...It's like Oranges and Apples. Florida has top notch oranges and Lebanon Ohio has some pretty sweet apples. The biggest difference is how the orange is looked after and served in comparison to the apple.
