Comparing WDW to other theme parks

I've never really been to Chessington, but i do go to my local park that lies not so long away from me, Alton Towers. Even though its no WDW i still consider it very special, probably how typically English it is and also the lovely weather that adds to the experience :) it has its fair share of good rides, from air, oblivion both being almost worlds first, oblivion being a worlds first at least, air was just the seating :) and then of course nemesis, even though its 10years old this year its still doing good and is still possibly the publics favourite in the park :)

Theming cannot be beaten by WDW, Alton has a go... and I'm glad for it trying :) but its not spectacular. Though i do think that their attraction Hex is pretty good and very well themed :) basically because it needs the theming to tell the story etc :)

Another thing i give WDW for is cleanliness, wow, the state of some parks compared to WDW... litter overflowing out of bins, chewing gum everywhere, graffiti strewn over every available space in a rides que line :) wen we visited WDW in 2001 we were awed at how clean and tidy the park was, well done WDW:)

No other theme park can really compare to WDW. WDW is totally different then say Bush Gardens Tampa or Six Flags Over Geogia those theme parks offer thrills, some themeing, and an exciting time. But what WDW offers it something different, something very magical. I mean were else in the world can you take a ride through space, see characters come to life, take a plunge down a moutain to a briar patch, ride through caverns arounf Big Thunder Mountain, explore a twisting River on a riverboat, ride through the amazon, go through time, train to be an asronaut, go through a car testing facilty in the car, take a trip around the world, escape from trolls down a waterfall, see Thomas Jefferson come to life, test out the newest gadgets, celebrate peace and love around the fire, see your favorite movies take place with you are in the middle of the action, take a trip to Endor, help Indinia Jones shoot a movie, take a ride with Aeromsmith through hollywood at sixty miles per hour, explore a deserted hotel that takes you to the twightlight zone, see the world in the eyes of a bug, take a ride through an authentic African savahnna and help save animals, take a ride through an asian river, almost get eaton by a dino, (soon) take a ride through Mount Everest and Meet the Yeti, experiance joy, wonder, discovery, and magic all in the eyes of the young and the young at heart. That is what make Disney what it is today the sparkle that the little boy catches in his eye he first rides Space Mountain, the smile that the girl shows when Cinderella hugs her, the joy of a family that walking under the tunnle to the Magic Kingdom, the twinkle in the grandmothers eye when she see her grandkids smiling and running with their grandfather across a Magic Kingdom.

I wondered how others felt about visiting other theme parks after experiencing WDW. I have found that the other parks always seem sub par to WDW. I seem to notice the trash laying on the ground, the attitude of the employees, the detail in the attractions. What have you noticed and where? Have any of you seen parks that are on the same level as WDW?

There IS NO comparison - Disney cannot be beaten for its theming, cleanliness or attention to detail.

I'm not into thrillrides. I like rides like spaceship earth, HM, POTC, and even Jaws and King Kong at univ. Also, there's not many parks that can fake me into being happy and smiling, like Disney. I'm a miserable person, depressed, etc., but at WDW I actually feel like a different person, like everything in life is great.

I like all the facts and interesting details there are to be learned about WDW also. It's like I can know a rides history and specs before I ever get on. I'm one of these people who likes more knowing how something works rather than just taking the ride for granted.

Nobody can touch Disney theming either. Show me another Main St. with the piped in smells and the scaling and details.

And WDW has the hottest princesses, mermaids, and faries :slurp:

it's difficult to compare any non-disney park to disney world. disney dances to it's own drum; they have the capability to do anything they dream up. other parks, even strong franchises like six flags, can't keep up.

i spent a summer working at cedar point, and i enjoyed the experience, the people and the rides, but it's a completely different animal. the standards they have are different. they expect their employees to be friendly and efficient, but there is no magical atmosphere. many of the employees that i knew had worked at disney off and on, and they had endless lists of differences, good and bad.

most amusement companies know that they cannot keep up with disney, and so they head in a different direction. cedar point, and cedar fair inc. in general, focus on thrill rides & the number of coasters they offer. they attract ace-ers, not hardcore cp fans. that's why they are a thrill park, not a theme park.

it's hard to compete with the best; best budgets (even with cuts), best creative talent, best material to work with, best name in the business.

Although Disney is top-notch, I have to say Universal and IoA are awesome, especially the themes in Islands--they hit on all my obsessions(except Disney, of course)

It is kind of an apples and oranges thing. Busch Gardens Williamsburg is very Disney-like---and they've got a scary ride coming up. Love the Alpengeist and CORKSCREW HILL! (4-D show) I live in VA so I go there a lot.

Cedar Point is good if you like coasters, and it's kinda sentimental for me cause I grew up in Ohio.

King's Dominion and Kings Island are fun--though they will never compare with Disney in a million years.

I like Hershey--because chocolate is heaven. They've got some wicked coasters, although, yes, it doesn't compare with Disney.

I miss Sesame Place--I kinda forget what it's like...

Sea World is nice, although it's less about the rides and more about the animals--it's all good cause I am obsessed with animals.

But yes, all in all, Disney and Universal are tops--and to compare those two for me is VERY apples and oranges--they give me different things that I crave. I might have a slight Disney bias because of the history, and the fact I want to work there. (And I will say they have the best service)

oh yeah I almost forgot...once, this person working at Cedar Point was EXTREMELY nasty to me...I was speechless, but my sister wasn't. He thought I was lying, and I had used my "fastpass"--basically a stamp on my hand. I had used one for another coaster, and it was underneath the new one for the coaster I was about to go on(the Mantis).

but i like the rides, so whatevs..

The rides at great adventure are great thrill rides.

The 2 major problems with it that I realized last time I went are
1) Orgainization - the superman ride broke down and they couldn't even tell us how long it would take. They have wait time signs that are never used. Among other problems
2) the majority of people that go to the park are rude. I think it is because GA is like a day park. People are not going there for a long vacation

I love thrill rides but I also love the themed rides of Disney. On one hand, it's hard to beat the heartpounding thrill of weighlessness as you plummit along huge drops, twists, barrell rolls and total inversions. But on the other hand, I love the themed rides through a briar patch, spaceship earth, world of motion (sniffle), haunted manson, etc that Disney offers.

One thing about 6 Flags. Whenever you hear about a coaster being stuck upside down for hours, it's always at a 6 Flags. Whenever you see on the news a huge crane raised to evacuate riders from coasters, it's at a 6 Flags. Whenever you hear about a run away car flying off of a track, (except for the poor incident a few years ago at DL), it's at a 6 Flags.

I've ridden the train before the train that got stuck upside down for 30 minutes at my local 6 Flags. And paniced since I was a camp councelor and we had camp kids stuck on the inverted ride. It was a horrible, tramatic event for these teens. And not only were they upside down, but they were positioned in such a way that the sun was beating down on them with sweat rolling off. But I digress . . .

When I was on line for superman the car that was coming into the station was stuck for like 15 minutes. That doesn't sound so bad, but the way the train is on this coaster they had their back to the track. So they were hanging facing towards the ground.
