I know they are doing a moment of silence in the parks, but (everyone may hate me for this but oh well) I dont think anything should be done, the parks are a way to get away from the real world, not to be reminded of it.

I agree. There will be enough memorial services and commemerations (sp?) going on that if one chooses to be involved in the one year anniversary, you can. For those who choose to recognize the day in a different way, then WDW is good place to express that. I think Disney is doing the right thing by staying low key on 9/11.

I also agree on 9/11 there will be plenty of different services. WDW & DL should stay as is a normal day.A moment of silence is enough. Going to WDW & DL is an escape from the world & should retain the magic of happiness in the world, even on this day.

I am pretty sure it was announced that at the Disney US parks, they would have a short moment of scilence on Sept. 11. They will be stopping the rides shortly for the moment, too. It should be pretty low key, and I think it is great that they are doing this.

I'm a smidge confused by this thread....I'm not sure who I'm agreeing with, but I think that at least a moment of silence is respectful - definately needs to be done. Other than that I feel that the parks should go on as usual - if everything is shut down the terrorists have just won.

I agree with Cymbal Diva and Talsonic. Certainly a moment of silence is appropriate. After that the best way to stick it to the terrorists is to live our life as the proud Americans (and Disney fans) that we are by enjoying the beauty, patriotism and happiness of Walt Disney World!!

It's nice to see everyone is so in agreement on this. I also agree that they should have a moment of silence and bring everything to a halt at that point. I don't think anyone in America will need anything more to remind them of that horrific day and the many innocent lives that were lost.

Thanks for the info Jekyll. I think it is nice that the moment will be at noon which is more of a busy time at every park. Will an announcement be made? Not that I plan on being there that day, but one never knows!!

We are going to be hammered with images of that horrific day the whole week of the anniversary. It is very sad and the memories of that day will hurt everyone Im sure. I dont think anyone will ever forget that day. I agree with a moment of silence to remember all of the victims and familes but then we do have to get on with life. There is no place better in the world to do that than at DisneyWorld.

As with most thinks I am sure that Disney will do it in a classy way to not disrupt the day too much. And even for the foreign visitors it will be a way to think about America and what its people stand for!

I read in Time magazine (I think) this week and a 12 year old girl said that The Food Channel is her favorite TV station because "it's the only station that doesn't show my Dad gettting murdered" in the 9/11 attacks.

Not trying to sound unpatriotic, but I'll be glad when the one-year anniversary passes and we can finally try and get on with our lives. I won't forget; I just don't want to be constantly reminded of it like we are heading up to 9/11/2002.

I agree with everyone else. Keep it low key at WDW.

I'm afraid of the full out media blitz we're going to get. I wonder how much is respect and how much is ratings generated.

Constant Reminder

I do not know if you will ever be able to NOT be reminded of 9/11 especially while visiting Disney. Just the fact that the security is still checking bags as you enter every park is reminder enough for me.

While visiting MGM last weekend, I asked the security how long do they think they will be doing the searches and he told me that "they will be building us permanent buildings/structure if that is any indication".

Don't get me wrong though, I think the security is a good idea, but it does not make me feel "that much" safer. If someone wants to get something in, they will get around the security.

British TV (Channel 4) has been showing documentaries all this week with "unseen" footage, follow-up programmes a year on etc, etc.
The events of last year are going to remain with us (anniversaries etc) for a long, long time. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a minutes silence every year on Sept 11th ( as there is in the UK at 11am on each November 11th for the war )
I agree with Disney to have the silence as a mark of respect - and then continue the day as normal - people go to WDW to get away from reality without shunning the victims or being disrespectful towards them.

I think a moment of silence would be wonderful to have. Nothing to big just a little moment where everyone can do what they want to do to reflect on sept 11. I think it would be nice ifthey did it in all the parks before there big night time entertainment(fantasmic, fantasy in the sky, ect.) I think that would be really nice.
