combining aaa discount with free dining

Hi everybody,

I see often on the boards things about how you can't combine room discounts with dining discounts, like free dining, etc. So if I set up a reservation through my AAA agent, and get the AAA discount, for a September trip, and then free dining comes up, can I add the free dining to the trip without losing the AAA discount, or can I only have one or the other? Does anybody have experience with this and know what happens? Thanks!!!

I believe you can only use one discount at a time. Just do the math and see which is a better deal for you. AAA room discount or the free dining if it comes out.

In 2006, we booked with the AAA discount, and it was something like 20% off the room at the WL. Then free dining came out. Our agent went ahead and rebooked under free dining. The difference was something along the lines of $600 for dining versus $250 AAA. No contest, it was an easy choice. Actually, the agent didn't even ask us, she just went ahead and changed it since it was such a no brainer.

You cannot get a discount on a discount. You would have to choose which works better for you and then make a decision. A lot of people will forfeit the room discount because in the end they save more money going on the dining plan and taking the discount across the board. Even travel agents themselves have forfeited the TA room discount to go on the FREE Dine plan because it works out better. But, in answer to your question, again, you can't get a discount on a discount. No double dipping allowed.

Room only discounts arent difficult at all. Simply take the price of the room and multiply it by the discounted amount made into a percent. So for example say your hotel room you are looking at is $100.00 and the discount is 15% take $100.00 and multiply it by .15. The number you got was 15, which means the room would be discounted by $15.00. Doing it within a package is less straightfoward and that would be done easier by going to the AAA website. Belle
