Coal Mine tracks are quieter then Space Mountain?

I believe "the stupid TV sets in the exit escalator that make people stop to look at themselves when you're just trying to get out of there" have been there in some format for a very long time. The reality is you're on a moving track anyway though, so if people stop in front of you to look at themselves then you're still moving closer the exit if you can't pass them. I've never personally witnessed anyone walking backwards on the moving track delaying me and most of the time it's very easy to pass stationary people on the left anyway if I want steal an extra whole 6 seconds from the day that is.

Ever been stuck behind a brazilian tour group.. Walking backwards.. Taking up the whole ramp????!!!!!

....Me neither.

I still love the ride but the hallway of purgatory before the loading area makes zero sense to me and the one thing I really miss is the glow in the dark strips on the ride vehicles...such a trivial thing I know but I miss it none the less.
The hallway is required because you are walking under the MK railroad tracks when you go into the dip area. They could add a bit better theming though, but most times you go through it quickly.

Wrong hallway...I am talking about the one with the tinted windows immediately before the load area.

Don't enjoy going that way much either really as you feel kind of cut off and can't see the line ahead or if they're looking for single riders to jump the queue. Noticed them utilising it quite a bit this last trip for FP too. You'd be in the right side FP line with everyone ahead of you being directed to the right track and then they'd suddenly start sending the FP line to the left along the back which always 'felt' a longer wait.

Oddly enough we have probably ridden SM 20-25 times and have NEVER been directed to the right no matter if we were FP or not. Kind of weird...what are the chances!

I first started going on SM back in the 70's as a kid. Back then before fast passes and also going at peak summer time it would get very crowded and lines of 2 hours weren't unusual. I'd learned to get there early when the MK opened and head straight there to get my fix. They always opened the right track first in my experience, opening the left side to help shift people when the queues increased after opening. In fact it was many years of going before I even got to experience the left side, I imagine that this was because I mostly rode first thing in the morning. If my memory serves me correctly the times I went later in the day, you had the choice whether to turn left or right once entering the building too. Rather than being directed you could have a peek at the lines on either side and then decide which track you fancied.

When FP was introduced the right side of the queue was used for FP (again if my memory serves me correctly) and usually the right track was opened first. I'm sure that on not so busy days I've seen just the right track open with both FP and standby lines being directed there and sharing it with FP obviously getting priority. I've rarely seen just the left track used if ever, it always seemed the right side was the default one?

Last year in October and this year in September were the first time I remember the left side being the one they directed you to for FP though. As I said they seem to use both now an in the estimated 7-8 times I've ridden in that time frame I'd say it's been 50/50 which side I was directed to.

I love SM, but wow, it doesn't half hurt if you're not braced for a few whacks.
I also can't help but brace for a massive whack in the head from a bar above. I know it won't happen, but because I can't see, I just brace myself anyway. Lol!
Still, it has character. Make it a bit smoother, sure, but don't get rid of it's quirkiness.

And of course the Mine Train will be quieter than SM! One is brand spanking new. The other is way older.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I hate it when they do what, is that new because the first time I had to go around the back for the first time in 2010 on the right side. I hated it back there. I was on the fast pass line back in the day where I had 2 in a row because somebody didn't want to go on.

If any ride needs a total retracking, it's the Magic Kingdom's Space Mountain. The almost 40 year old track is really rough and is truly showing its age. And as far as I'm concerned, the addition of the trim breaks before the big drop just ruins the ride.

Not arguing - I was just under the impression that replacing all of the track was what they did 2 years ago and why the closed the ride for such a long time (wasn't it close to a year?).

That being said, I do like how it's darker, now. That's how I remember it from when I was a kid where you couldn't tell where you were going. It does kind of suck that you can't look up from the queue at the glowing rockets racing about but I don't remember the glow being all that great in the past. It would have worked well if they used LEDs on it, though, if you were trying to get that effect again.

The new audio seems a bit goofy. I was really hoping for the audio track like at Disneyland's Space Mountain. It's not horrible, but it really doesn't seem to add to the ride, in my opinion.

A complete track replacement was planned but did not happen. This is why the audio is off board. Without replacing the track it would likely fall apart like it did at Disneyland.

The recent 2009 refurbishment consisted of mostly changes/upgrades to the ride vehicles, the queue and the load/unload areas. There was no track work done. In order to completely retrack the ride, Space Mountain would have to go down for a much lengthier period of time (a lot longer than 8 months), similar to Disneyland's 2 year Space Mountain refurbishment.

I prefer Disney World's version of Space Mountain over Land's...it's not even close. World has the better overall ride. It's more thrilling and I actually prefer the random sound effects over the cheesy on board music at DL. It has more drops and I prefer the 1 row setup verses side by side at DL.

The WDW interactive queue games did not make me happy, but they just joined the club of interactive queues. Overall, the queue at WDW is amazing. I love the long space tunnel leading up to the ride and it did maintain some of the cool 3D space effects.

The cameras at the end have been there forever and people stop on that moving platform for all kinds of reasons. The entire Post-Show experience is superior at WDW, despite the cameras at the end.

It's all about what you grow up with though. I have probably ridden WDW's Space mountain 200-300 times (i'm guessing 5-7 times per trip, 40 trips or so). I've only ridden DL's version 20 or so times. So I admit, it's hard to be objective.

I really do think WDW's version is more thrilling. To me, its overall presentation considering the pre-show, actual ride, and post-show is superior.

I know this is kinda silly, but I hear it a lot. Even on here. Apparently the supports for the track are very close to your head. You aren't supposed to put your hands up and if you do you'll most likely hit the supports. I know someone said they can easily touch the top of the red "wormhole" sequence, but I find it hard to believe Disney would ever make it possible to hit your hand on something during the ride.

EDIT: I don't believe I've ever actually put my hands up on the ride. It just is more comfortable holding the lap bar.

What coal mine? And what happens after Space Mountain? "....then Space Mountain?" Then what? It falls into a worm hole?

I always have my hands up and I hit my fingertips several times along the way. I still put them up, because I'm stupid.
