CMs and Pins

I will be a CP next month, and I am also an avid pin collector. This makes me wonder what exactly the deal is with pins and CMs?

Might sound like a stupid question, but I've never heard anything either way: Do CMs get to keep their pins at the end of the day?

Supposedly the influx of cheap pins on ebay and such comes from CM's selling their pins (as well as bootlegs from China). Would these be stolen? Or do they just have no use for them?

Thanks

I am sure you will be able to keep certain pins, I still trade and recieve pins from friends that are CM's and those who are not anymore that have had pins for years! You will have a great time with trading pins with kids, or that matter, adults..I know that is how I met MANY new friends that were CM's!

I didnt do pin trading when I was a CP, but I think you get your lanyard with starter pins from your manager when you start & you're supposed to turn it back in when you leave. Im not exactly sure though. I know at DHS, there's a pin repleshment area for cms to fill their lanyard when they lose pins or get multiples, etc.

Good luck on the CP!

The pins on the trading lanyards are property of the Walt Disney Company. While CM's are allowed to take their lanyards home with them between shifts, they are expected to return the lanyards and 12 pins when they leave the company or transfer to another department.

Of course, now that you'll be a CM, you'll be able to get all sorts of Cast-exclusive pins--some given to you for free by the Company, most available for purchase from Company D. There are also Cast pin parties from time to time where pins are offered for 75% off.

Very helpful, thank you!

Here's how it works:

Pin trading is different depending on your work location. For example, if you work attractions and are greeting you have to wear the lanyard and it's usually traded between CM's throughout the shift. These lanyards have to be returned at the end of the shift

Other areas and roles pin trading is optional. You have the option of the lanyard or the little square pouch. sometimes the pins are on them, and other times you have to put them on yourself. In that case you can choose from brand new pins to put on. (12 on the lanyard, and i think like 9 on the pouch) You used to be able to take these without having to check them out and take them home and use indefinitely Now you have to check them out and are *supposed* to return them at the end of the day.

Btw if you come back from the end of your shift and you only have 10 or 11 pins on your lanyard thats ok. You're allowed to give 1 away in certain instances and they wont mind, but dont let that become a habit... Oh and good luck!! ask to stay at vista way!

When I was a CM I used to trade pins from home with the work lanyard. I just did it when the managers weren't looking. A trade is a trade in my eyes.

I worked attractions on my CP and no one at my attraction (M:S) wore pins. I asked about it once, because I am a pin trader, and my co-workers kinda looked at me like I was weird for wanting to wear a pin lanyard, I was very disappointed =(
