I am anticipating MK for the 4th of July for the spectacular fireworks I keep reading and hearing about. Is it necessary to be in the MK from 8am until the fireworks to prevent from being locked out? Or do they let people in eventually? Both guests are off property.

I am debating on MK on July 3rd as another option - how do you guys estimate crowds will be around 2pm?

Good luck, we will be arriving on the 7th and plan on heading over to see the last night of the Fourth of July fireworks.
We have been down before on the 4th and were warned to stay away from Magic Kingdom by friends that had once lived down there. Instead we went to Animal Kingdom and had a great day, at night we went to Epcot and again had a wonderful time. Both years Magic Kingdom was a zoo and we were happy that we missed it. Then again going with young children is a lot difference then adults. If it was just my husband and I and we were younger I just might travel over, especially it is was one of our birthdays.
Have fun!!
