City Walk vs. Downtown Disney

I didn't know it wasn't doing well. All three times I've gone, I've been impressed with the design and maintenance. Has the quality I've experienced not provided good fiscal numbers?
It's far from ideal, but I think Uni is more than ready to deal with the repercussions of being more "adult night life" than DTD. I mean, that is a large part (or so I have been led to understand) of why PI was shut down. Though I certainly do have to wonder why the heck I see people pushing strollers into CW at 10 at night... That just seems like bad parenting to me.

Everytime I've passed through CityWalk the minigolf course is dead. I went with a group of about 12 one time in December and we walked right on. Try that at Fantasia Gardens....

I agree with you its well done, but its not drawing a very substatial crowd.

Given that DD is nothing but a construction site with a complicated maze of walls and nowhere to park right now, I'd say CW wins in a landslide.

This will be an interesting topic to revisit whenever Disney Springs actually opens.

I'm 26 yrs old and Pleasure Island was closed by the time I was old enough to enjoy it.

So comparing DTD to CW right now, city walk blows it away as far as night time entertainment goes. I've never been there during the day but based on what I remember it didn't have too many shops so I guess DTD would be better for shopping. Every trip to wdw I've been on in the past 4-5 years, atleast one night I've made sure to leave the Disney parks early to shower up and head to city walk for the clubs. DTD can't even be mentioned in the same league when it comes to that IMO.

Hopefully with the new Disney Springs project Disney will finally give its younger clientele something worth staying on property for late at night.

Without PI, I have to say I prefer CW. My parents escorted me into the Adventurer's Club on 2 trips before I was old enough (Was gone before I turned 21). If it was still around it would win. But now DTD is more of a shopping destination and that isn't my thing. I'd rather have nightlife right now.

I was only ever at PI when I was younger, 15 or 16. So I remember it, but wasn't able to totally enjoy it. I was at CW probably about 13-14 years ago, during my honeymoon, and it was great from what I recall. I also enjoyed DD 3 weeks ago but yes, it's a maze of construction walls right now. Also, as someone else said, EARL OF SANDWICH.

I was also at Church Street Station once when I was underage. For nightlife, I think I liked that place better than CW and DD

City Walk is something I walk through to get to Harry Potter. Not impressed with the shopping and don't care for the nightlife. DTD has great shopping and very good restaurants.

Actually thinking about it for a bit, we really do miss the Virgin megastore at DTD. When we used to go to the cinema we didn't have to really time it properly as we could happily kill time at Virgin till the film started. We'd just turn up without knowing any film start times and just pick one and then head over to Virgin to book shop. Now we tend to check online first and time our arrival more.
I miss Virgin Mega so much. We used to have a "The Great CD Race" first to get like, 1000 CD's or so and we have impulse buy nights at that place. It is a good place to kill time before flicks and to hang out until 1 am after flicks lol

I think city's akl looks better, but not enough to do unless it's adult night life. DD has much more. This would be a very good discussion in a couple years when DS is complete and Citywalk finishes their renovations.

CW is a little more diversified & more interesting.

Total agreement, it's Citywalk all the way for me. Margartiaville, Pat O', Rising Star, Hard Rock - great food and great times every time I go. Nascar cafe can be hit or miss.

As for DTD, well House of Blues is good at happy hour if you can get a seat at the bar- but otherwise, not impressed with any of the restaurants (especially TRex UGH!) and just shop at WoD to get my AP discount.

I'll actually throw in a curveball and say Boardwalk is my favorite. Generally quiet, classy and beautiful, I never have a problem spending an evening walking around. Dining and shopping isn't that great, but I love the overall change of pace some may find boring.

I really enjoy Citywalk, the stores and clubs are great but since I rarely travel with friends my age to Orlando I prefer Downtown Disney because it has more family options.

Agreed, it's a big loss to us too unfortunately. I also miss Magic Masters from nearby and also the big memoribilia store from near the fountain. We may give Splitsville a try this year for the first time though and see how enjoyable that is.

I like Splitsville, we went like after a month from opening. The food was excellent, the bowling was decent, and the drinks made us feel good.

We had a drink there last year and listened to the band outside which was good. Thanks for your advice, we will probably now give it a try :)

We bought into DVC this year at SSR so I will being seeing a lot more of DTD in the future which is cool cause I love Ragland Road.

But here is a question about CW, Hard Rock to be specific.

What mental midget designs a bar where the bathrooms are down a long steep flight of stairs from the bar??? Man I almost went down those stairs on my butt or belly faster than the Jamaican bobsled team goes downhill :)
