Cinderellabration Factiod

Did you know that:
1. Each one of those pretty princess dresses used in Cinderellabration cost over $10,000 to make. This is the total cost of materials, man hours, etc., Some of the material cost over $70 a yard.
2. Each princess has TWO dresses made specifically for her. One for today and one for tomorrow, while today's is cleaned.
3. When a dress is no longer needed (for instance, there is a new show or the actress is no longer performing the part) the dress is destroyed! Yes, that is right, destroyed. Each dress, pattern, layout is copyrighted and when they retire a dress, they destroy it. This little fact made me sick. I thought they should archive these beautiful costumes, but I guess there just isn't enough space to hold all these items.

I learned all this on the Behind the Magic Tour. I had forgotten about it until just now while watching tk421-sw's great video. :sohappy: I wasn't sure where to post this so feel free to move it.

OMG! They destroy $10,000 dresses?!? Why oh why? There has to be someplace they could keep them? They could display them in a park attraction. I know I would certainly enjoy an attraction where you could see some props and costumes up close - right in the park (not on a tour.) Maybe somewhere at MGM? Or they could auction them off for charity? (And use the money to help fund new rides and rehab old ones!)

I mean I kept my prom dresses and none of those cost over $200!

Actually, I mentioned the 'auction' thing, when I was there. Their response was, since these costumes are copyrighted and since they really don't want to see their costumes running around doing, lord know what, and since they don't want someone passing themselves off as representing Disney, they decided to destroy the articles rather then have them misrepresented. I know they have a place for archived items, but there is limited space (which is such a shame).

I guess they never heard of space bags  My mom is now addicted to those!

That's on the plus side of getting an item from Tokyo Disneyland... ;)
Unfortunately, we didn't inherit those dresses from Tokyo. I actually saw them working on Belle, Arora, and Cinderella's dresses.

Disney Management is CHEAP and we are getting a CHEAP version of this show.

In Toyko each dress costs $10,001.23 (after you convert the Yen).

We get shafted yet again. Let the letter writing campaign begin!!!!!!

In case you have no clue, I'm

Aren't the Tokyo dresses glitzier and more detailed than the Florida dresses? I'm quite shocked at how much they are no wonder they cut so many parts from the orignal show...

I think they are like that becuase of all the lighting and such that was at Tokyo cause it was a night show. This one is a day show. Thats what I think.

If you can get up close to one, take a look. They are very detailed, very beautiful. Watching them on video does not do them justice. I don't really get into the shows. In fact the only reason I would have watched this one is for the sake of my 4 year old (we watched the video together this morning). But after seeing how much work goes in to making one of these shows (and I am talking about the costumes alone) I am a little more interested now. If we get down there this summer (more then likely we will) I will be happy to stand there and watch this show.

It is a real shame that they have to destroy the dresses. Too bad they cant have a sort of museum somewhere on the property with costumes and such to have on display and rotate the items from time to time. It would be cool to see them up close to really see the details.

not 100% true. Disney doesn't destroy ALL copies of the dress, there are more than 2 made due to performers with different sizes. While some will be destroyed, if in 15 years the dresses are needed for a private event, they can get with within a day or so.

Also, aren't a lot of costumes used in more than one show, if possible?

yes... as of now, the Cinderellabration costumes are only for that show, but that doesn't mean in a few years, after Cinderellabration has completed its run, they won't be used elsewhere.

a "thank you"

as a performer, I just wanted to say THANK YOU, again, for the compliments on the show...and I can assure you, the dresses are GORGEOUS up close (and in-person for the people in the crowd). They are quite detailed and I am honored to get to wear such elegent attire.

I also like the idea of having a display area for older costumes. Who knows what the future holds?

Thank you again for the support of our new show! :-D

Thanks for the corrections.
