MK Cinderella Castle Set to Return to Classic Color Scheme

Boca was bemoaning the waste of the guide rail in RoA and my thought was how much scrap was lost in the 20K subs?
It's still there if you can dig it up
I don't think I was "bemoaning the waste of the guide rail in RoA"...I just said it would make sense to remove it and recycle it.... I could care less what they do with it....

Cannot believe we are at the point they are releasing hype videos for simply restoring the castle to it's original color scheme. Are our expectations of them this low?

This is why I started that (admittedly controversial) forum on GAT yesterday....Yes I'm happy about the paint redo, but while watching the "hype" on the repaint I was saddened to think "this is what's it's come to? A segment on a paint job?!" Walt, John Hench, and many other legendary Imagineers observed how guests are not meant to stop and say "oh gee, what a nice (or bad) paint job," but the paint is meant to subconsciously contribute to a much-larger positive guest emersion experience. The other reason why I was saddened yesterday was that the segment on the repaint was a far cry from the: "Dateline Disney" on The Disney Channel that I was fortunate to grow-up with. By the time those segments were done hyping what was "(actually) under construction" or "just completed" everyone who saw them was exploding with excitement...we just couldn't wait to go!!!! Yesterday's castle video, especially juxtaposed with yesterday's GAT news, left me feeling, at best, "yay?"

The new Imagineering episode about the castles was a bit ridiculous... It was a 25 minute commercial and word salad about dreams and magic... When they were asking one of the Imagineers about the Shanghai castle it was an incomprehensible mélange of buzzwords carefully crafted by the marketing department about wishes and dreams and magic that was literally nonsensical.

But the paint job isn't the only thing going on and yeah, people are excited for it b/c they don't like the current paint job

But you can't compare the paint job to construction projects in the past and then ignore Tropical Americas, Piston Peak, Monstropolis, etc that is also going on

Not ignoring them....just amazed by the hype currently given something like a castle repaint. Growing-up, Disney wouldn't bother to mention things of this scale...if they ended-up being noticed at all, they would be "surprises" in subsequent visits to the parks.

It's a by product of the internet. The need for constant news to drive engagement. This goes for both Disney itself and the million fan sites that sell Disney news and tidbits. Anything and everything that can be hyped is hyped out of necessity.

A far cry from something like Disney Magazine, which was a quarterly publication and covered all aspects of the company.

It had some interesting bits and pieces and it's always nice to have Tom Morris talk, but I did skip a bunch of it

A shame they didn't bother to talk about the Castle Mystery Tour in Tokyo. Long gone now, but it was there for 20 years.

Good point. I realize there's likely no turning back now. But if they were more infrequent but higher-quality, I still believe they'd pack more punch.

That's par the course for Disney's promotional material these days.

I honestly don't care that much for them because of how they violate the theming of their parks and tear out classic elements so I guess talking about the castle paint job is fine I guess. Judging by recent trends. The announcement for Imagination version 4 is probably going to be announced with a slew of other projects that will likely make me vomit.

I dunno, then stop reading/paying attention to things. I get all the little bits of info I enjoy, and you'll just see updates from D23 Expo every two years.

Ugh! My beef isn't the small updates. My beef is that the small updates are being presented like BIG updates. I have absolutely no association with Disney other than being a fan and (extremely occasional) patron,.... but I still felt embarrassed for them while watching yesterday's video.

I am embarrassed I used to aspire to work for them.

They aren't being presented like BIG updates. BIG updates are like the reveals at D23 Expo. Everything you're seeing here is for uber park nerds.

Uber park nerds tend to get excited when the castle changes.
