Has anyone seen this yet? Is anyone planning on it? I loved the stage show, and I'm hoping they don't wreck this....the trailers look promising. :)

I want to see it. I haven´t seen the musical but I like having the film industry going back to the old big productions, musicals era. First, Moulin Rouge, now Chicago. Which one is next? Yeay! :)

I am so excited to see this movie. From what I have read, they don't seem to have ruined it. I was never able to catch it on stage but I love the music.

Well what would a film full of naked people be without britney? It wouldn't be complete without the queen skank of them all.:D

I haven't seen any trailers for it, and I just realized it was coming out last week when I went to the theater to catch Star Trek but I am so stoked about this coming out. I'm gonna miss it but I am just very glad to see musicals making a comeback. Maybe they will do Jekyll and Hyde next. I wonder who they would cast for that?.......

Well they're easily mistaken...both skanks, both have crappy pop music, and are hated by about 95% of the general public.

On a brighter note...I'm going to see Chicago TONIGHT...i'll be back later with a report :)

Just returned....In a word - Amazing. This is my new favorite movie.

The story is very true to the stage play. The music is brought up a notch and the songs are done better than the broadway recording I have.

I'll get more detailed tomorrow after I work..it's 12:30 now and I have to be to work by 8 am.

Oh yeah...Britney Spears wasn't in this movie. I even stuck around for the credits....she wasn't in them either. So...oh darn....the movie was that much better :)

:sohappy: I'm even more excited to see it now! John is very anti-musical (with the exception of Grease, because, well, who doesn't like Grease?!?!?!?) so I'll have to work extra hard to get him to this one. If I tell him there are skanky girls dancing across the stage I may be able to win him over. Or maybe I will have to dress like a skank myself

Then again, maybe I will save myself the hassle and see it with a girlfriend :p

I'm going to have to buy that soundtrack too. I lent out my Broadway recording a couple of years ago and of course I never saw it again. I thought that if the movie's version was any good I might just buy that. Thanks Fievel!

PS Jake- sorry about Brit

Ok..now for the in-depth review.

Catherine Zeta Jones was phenomenal as Velma Kelly. She portrayed the attitude and sass that the role really deserves. I always felt the role was played a little to straight and narrow in the broadway version, and she plays it a bit more sexy and sultry. Definitely my favorite role I've seen her in

Renee Zelweiger: I've always liked her. Always thought she was really good looking in a natural sort of way. In this movie she brings that out even more, but also shows the glitz and the glamour side of her. She plays Roxie to the T.

Both women have AMAZING voices and bodies to match. If a guy needs a reason to see this movie it's seeing these two in next to nothing while singing on a grand piano and flirting with the audience members.

Richard Gere: I think this is the best version of Billy Flynn the world has seen. I wasn't sure if he could pull the role, but he does it better than I think anyone else ever has. He is perfectly smug and self-indulgent the whole time.

The actor who plays Amos (i forget his name): This guy deserves an award for supporting actor. He plays the lowly sapp husband great and his rendition of "Mr. Cellophane" is not only funny but sad and touching all at the same time.

Queen latifah was the perfect choice for Mama. She has all the sass and attitude that is ever needed for the role of crooked warden on the take.

The story is all about greed and ______. If you've seen the stage show, it's a lot like it, but with less clothes much of the time. There is a lot of "tease" sexuality, such as flashes of skin and fishnet stockings....lots of fishnet stockings. Personally I think they capture a more sexy feel by not showing all they could have. Leaves the audience wanting more.

Even if you're not a fan of musicals, you'll like this movie. The songs aren't very "broadway". They are a very dirty jazz. Every song on the bill was made mean and dirtier than in the broadway version. If you don't go for any other reason, go to see "Cell Block Tango"...simply amazing.

The songs are well done and it's not like the actors just spontaneously break into song and dance. They occur more like a thought or vision in the actresses heads. Most (if not all) of the numbers are perfomed on a stage much like the stage show. Songs like "Press Conference Rag" beats anything the stage show could have attempted because of pure logistics (see it and you'll know what I mean).

All in all this is Chicago taken to the next level. It's funny, heartwarming, and very very sexy. This is a movie everyone who is a fan of disney should see. This might even beat a lot of Disney musical movies :)

Good review. I'm not usually a musical fan (I hated moulin rouge) but do quite like stage shows so I might catch this film. You've sold me on it fievel.

On another note, i noticed that CZJ sang a lot of songs on the soundtrack. Think yourself lucky you weren't subjected to her 'pop singing' career!

Hehe...I grew up around Jazz, so this musical style really appeals to me.

Like I said...even if you don't particularly care for musical the film is filled with half-naked super-hot women, so it's a no-lose situation :)

Just an update...the soundtrack for Chicago came out today. It has a track from the original show not used in the movie. It also has a hip hop remix of "cell block tango".

Great soundtrack....recommended for all :)
