Chef Mickeys?

So I leave tonight and have all my dining reservations booked and couldn't be happier with what I got.

I check into Contempory tonight and randomly checked last night and saw a random 730 ADR available at Chef Mickeys. This could be an amazing start to my four year old's vacation but then I read reviews about how costly and how underwhelming the food there is and had second thoughts. I went ahead and booked it but was hoping for some insight from the board about this place. Thanks!

We stayed at Contemporary in Oct and had a similar time slot for our last day. We really enjoyed it. Breakfast buffet comparable to other resorts and a bit more choice (I felt) than the in-park buffet restaurants.
Characters came quite quickly so whole meal and meeting each character only took about 50 minutes. Plenty time to head out for rope drop at MK.

Are you thinking of doing it for breakfast or dinner?

We've eaten there quite a few times and have always enjoyed. It is a bit pricey, but we like the food and the character experience. Plus if you stay there long enough, you could end up seeing some of the characters twice!

You're not paying for the food, you're paying for the characters. If you don't have another character meal scheduled, I'd say go for it. You didn't specify whether the reservation is 7:30 PM for dinner tonight or 7:30 AM for breakfast tomorrow. I'd lean towards breakfast given the choice, but either one is a fun start to the trip, especially since you're staying at the Contemporary.

My 5 year old insists on going to Chef Mickey's whenever we're at Disney. We always go for breakfast and the food is more or less what we can get anywhere else (we have dietary restrictions). However, as others mentioned it's all about the experience for the children. Of all the character dining we've done, this is my son's favourite, so it's the one I always recommend. If your LO loves it, then you'll love it!

Our last two trips and on our next trip, it's been a two-timer for us. The first dinner, and the departing breakfast. Am I "wow"-ed by the food? Never but it's nowhere near slop either. It's tasty (enough), with plenty of options. I prefer a breakfast buffet with a made-to-order egg/omelet station, but I middle through, somehow. Like others have said, it's a great way for your family to see the characters, especially if you'd rather not use fastpasses for character meet-and-greets. You'll get face time, you'll get autographs and pictures, then you can hit the parks, either see other characters or hit the rides. Unless it's out of someone's budget, I'd consider it a no-brainer to go.

We love it! I have read the negative reviews too but for whatever reason it continues to be one of my favorite places. I am not even saying the food is to die for either. I just really enjoy eating there with the kids. We have only ever been for dinner though and I hear breakfast is much better...we just aren't big breakfast eaters.

Traditionally an arrival night meal. Food is just meh, characters huge plus, but nothing puts us in a Disney mood faster than the walk through the CR, seeing the monorails whoosh past, and viewing the fireworks from the 4th floor area. Incomparable. YMMV

Glad you enjoyed it! It has become a family tradition to eat breakfast at Chef Mickey's every trip (as well as Hoop Dee Doo for dinner). As a previous poster said, always take negative reviews with a grain of salt because usually only the people with a negative experience take the time to post something. Hope you are having a fantastic trip!
