Cheap-O Magic Band Question

We are doing the memory maker though, so to get the ride vids and pics (e.g., 7 dwarves, splash mountain, and ToT) don’t we need the magic bands? Or will the same technology in our park cards if they’re in our pockets also track us on those rides? I thought the magic bands were needed for that. Not sure if my question makes sense.

As @Rob562 said, only a few rides don't have the ability to claim the picture at the attraction exit. And even those that don't you can stop by the Photopass location in any of the parks, and they can manually add it to your Photopass card. Just keep track of roughly when you were on the ride, and they can look it up. They can also do it through their phone/website if you can't do it while in park.

But if you only want it for the ride photos, and don't want to stop (which you may still need to do, the auto tagging isn't 100% accurate) then just buy one and save the money.

I suppose that you could also only purchase 1-2 magic bands and make sure the riders in your party have them on these particular rides.

Last magic band question from me: I noticed that the solid colors are the cheapest on the Disney page (12.99) but today I realized that solid blue is no longer an option. Heck, they even have solid blue on the same webpage to advertise magic bands but I don’t see the color for sale. Would this be a temporary glitch on disney’s page or do they not sell a blue 12.99 magic band anymore?

We buy stickers from Etsy to decorate our magic bands...that is also a cheap option of you want your magic bands to look different.
