Chatham or Vista?

Yeah, I'll be 21 when I get down there, but I plan on requesting a wellness apartment anyway. Is there a reason that Vista is always the party place? Is it because they have more rec. type offerings? Also, I was hoping to interview early for the Spring '09 program. I know that Fall '08 is the earliest, but does anyone know approx. when that would be? (like early/late Aug?)

www.disneycollegeprogram.com is the website.

LSU usually has their info meeting around October, but online presentations probably start in August/September.

As for Vista, that's just the stigma it has, and CP's just continue that stereotype each semester.

The dates for applying for Spring 2009 would be late Sept/early Oct.

I was in Vista, but really didn't spend any time there (except to sleep). We were all under 21 (was that wellness? I forget), but still, all of my roommates and their friends in apartments around us were big drinkers, and I saw them drop like flies.
We were the 'nerds' always in the parks

But I'm officially getting old. Back in "my day" (only 5 years ago), Chatham didn't have bus service; a friend and I drove down together, leaving her without a car, so that automatically left us in Vista.

Anyhow, Chatham really is a little nicer, but Vista still is nice. It's not like Vista was a dump or anything; it was clean, and a decent place to live.

I totally agree with this! Yeah, Chatham is newer but the way people talk you would think Vista was a dump in the slums! They are both very well maintained and no matter where you are you would be happy. The closest thing I came to thinking Vista was ghetto was on my first program we had this couch that was old and kinda smelled! Seriously, when the sun came through the window the couch would actually start to fester and stink! We called the front desk and told them about it and the NEXT DAY we had a brand new couch and arm chair! So if you end up in Vista and you do find something that you think is "ghetto" don't be afraid to speak up!

I am applying for the Summer Alumni, yay, a sigh of releif, I know what Im doing this summer!!! Back on topic now, I stayed at Chatham twice once with and once without a car. The busses always seem to work best for Vista, however it really depends on your work location. I know buses F, A, C and E (its spells face, its how I remembered it lol) all went to Chatham first but all the rest went to Vista/Commons first. Sometimes this had an effect sometimes it didn't. All the complexes (except for the treehouses) have some form of a pool party, grocery bingo, semi-formal ect... I like Chatham for the fact that graduation is held at Mickey's retreat and that is a hop, skip and away from Chatham. Vista's not bad, I can understand it being loud there with a party every other night of the week (as I went to a few of them) :brick:.

Anyway any current CP's have any info on how Patterson Court is looking? Maybe a pic or two? I liked last summer driving by and seeing the progress made. However it was mainly clearing of grass and one day there was a cow in the construction site .

Finally, add me to the list of May 19thers, I can't wait. I too am one of the few here graduating after the fall semester 08 and doing a CP Spring 09 then going full time on the Disney Cruise Line (hopefully) after its over! Im so excited!

I checked on the HUB, and it hasn't been updated since the summertime. What do you want to do this summer? I put down QSFB at TL, BB, and MK. You're the same as me. I'm graduating in December, and plan on doing Spring 2009.

As for the busses, most of them started at Chatham and went to Vista second. I believe Animal Kingdom and DTD(?) were 2 of the ones that started at Vista.

Don't let anyone scare you out of staying at Vista. I got down there on Jan. 22 for Spring last year, and only Vista was left (yes, even at 8:30 am). I had read all the threads on the internet and was really upset about not getting to stay at Chatam. However, a few weeks after being there, I was SOO happy I wasn't at Chatam. I was only on the bus for 8 minutes to get to Epcot every day from Vista, and the people at Chatam were on the bus at least 20 minutes each way (or so they said). Chatam may be newer, but the refurbished apartments in Vista were redone with higher quality materials than was used in building Chatam...which meant nicer floors, counters, etc...Unfortunately, not very many buildings in Vista had been redone as of spring of last year. Vista is literally right next to Wendy's, Chic-a-Fillet, and Walgreens..which you will appreciate when you get off at 11 pm and realize you need something. If anyone says Chatam is within walking distance of ANYTHING other than the Commons apartment complex, they must be used to walking quite a bit. So if you're not used to commuting without your own car (like I wasn't), Vista definitely is the place to stay. I think Vista is more the party place because the buildings are a lot closer than they are at Chatam...so you're a lot more likely to meet people even just walking from the bus to your apartment. The only time it was actually loud there was when the people being noisy were in my own apartment. I loved Vista, dirty apartment and all. Regardless of where you end up, remember you're going to be at work A LOT, and are pretty much just going to be sleeping there anyway.

My Roommate worked in tommorrowland! Her name was Anna Edwards. We lived in Vista in 2210. Yeah it has been such a long time! All of my friends have all either moved back or moved on. It depresses me because I haven't been able to join them but finally graduate! I can't wait!

Patterson Court

in reference to the questions about Patterson Court, I can tell you what the Disney reps are currently saying: it's opening in May. They still have a lot of work to do on them, but I can see them opening in May if the builders stay on schedule.

as for the question of chatham vs vista, I can't really say since i've only been here two days...but I love Chatham so far :) I do know that where you end up in the complex makes a difference as far as how accessible stuff is by walking. My apt is all the way in the back, so to get anywhere, we have to walk to the front of the complex and then walk to where we want to go. So far we haven't walked further than the front of the complex since we brought a car.

There are a number of restaurants (both full service and fast food) about half a mile from Chatham. Publix (a Grocery store) is just a little further than half a mile. So, there are things within walking distance, but not within easy walking distance.

I live at Chatham (Spring 08), and..eh, aside from an apartment fire, not much goes on here. Luckily, I'm over 21, and prefer clubbing to house parties. Chatham's layout & placement lends itself well to commuter CPs, but is still simple to walk around.

Side note, I'm meeting more and more ICPs staying at Vista than The Commons.

Heh, that brings back memories of my 2nd CP. There was a fire in an apartment on the floor above us. It turned out to be a grease fire in which the guy (and I am NOT lying) put....water on it. Yep, water. We had to be evacuated for over an hour.

Just an FYI, only CRP (Cultural Representative eg, working at world showcase) cm stay at the commons. All ICPs stay at Chatham, Vista or the old treehouses. I stayed at vista on both my ICPs. NO icps stay at the commons.
