Characters in Disney Springs

I think it's a great idea.Reserve a M & G at Disney Springs with your Magic Band. It is a major Disney property. Depending on the characters, it could get a lot of people, both families and adults to go shopping when they otherwise would not. I would just like to see it in a spot where it doesn't totally disrupt the flow of people through the mall.

But if they have to go to these lengths to get people to shop the problem isn't the location it's the products offered for sale.

I'd say a good majority of the shops are clothing. Where's the trinket and knick knack shops? Where's the pop culture and Electronic stores like Apple or dare I say Microsoft?

As a 30's something male I have only found two stores in the entire Town Center to be interesting enough that I'd consider purchasing something but I don't go to Disney to buy clothes. I go to disney to relax, eat and enjoy the company of friends and family. The Food offerings at Disney Springs are fantastic but I have no idea what they were thinking when it comes to the shopping Mall. Malls are dying for a reason, they are boring. I want stores with products I literally can not purchase anywhere else. Open a store with 3D printers that you can purchase and make your own souvenirs for example. (print on demand vinylmations?) Open a store that's just Disney Music and Movies that can be downloaded directly to a phone and make it cheaper than anywhere online. Open a Disney Daycare so Mom and Dad can get dinner without the munchkins. Open a Bridal shop that's tied into Disney Weddings...............Make Disney Springs Unique and not like literally every shopping mall in the surrounding 20 mile radius. Disney could certainly learn a few things from artegon marketplace for example.

Yeah, I think i've noticed the jewelry stores seem particularly slow. I actually like a decent amount of places as a male (Uniqlo, Zara, Trophy Room, Volcom, SuperDry, Under Armour, etc. Oakley will be nice too.)

You're absolutely right though that there's too much of the same type of product. They need to even it out and there needs to be more electronic stores.

The stores that they have there are also high-end stores. The luggage place that just went in, according to the release on here, has luggage that prices from $500-1000 (that's just 1 example). So, yeah, people who have already paid enough to go to Disney (from out-of-town) aren't going to necessarily spend a ton of money in these upscale stores. I normally hit up World of Disney and the Harley Davidson store (for souvenirs). Otherwise, I'll go into places, look around and leave after some sticker shock from the prices.

ETA: This could be a pretty good one from a bus driver!!!

Retail has a way of sorting itself out. If people don't want to buy what is being sold the store will go out of business. An example would be all those Ink Cartridge Refill franchisees that dotted strip malls across the country. Most are gone. I think the 3D printing might work, but the bridal shop, I'm not so sure. I'm sure parents would love Disney Child Care, but I don't know the specifics of hiring qualified careworkers and paying for adequate insurance in order to turn a profit.

I agree, DS with few exceptions is just another high priced mall.

I told em this would happen, 8 years ago...... no one listens... they only see the short term promotion and bonuses.

Start the "watch list" on what stores close first.

When are those bands / fireworks going to arrive to save the day?
Will the "Edison" suddenly become Ad Club 2.0 with a dinner / theater / show?
Will "Walts" turn itself into a full on nightclub.....

May we live in interesting times.

I think overall electronic stores aren't right either. Overseas visitors can't always purchase due to the US voltage and socket differences. Plus a lot of that sort of shopping is done online now anyway. Clothing seems to be only main type of store people browse in nowadays.

But Disney has already tried unique stores and most of the time it doesn't work. Remember Hoy Poloi, Sosa Cigars, the magic shop or that vintage movie memorabilia store they had? Those are great places to just walk in and look but the odds your going to walk out with a $1500 signed photo of Lucille Ball are slim to none. Disney has finally given me reason to go to Disney Springs with all the great quick service options they have added. As far as the shops go, I would possibly buy something from Zara but that's about it. The majority of the shops are women's shops and the stuff that isn't is just lame. Create your own flip flop? Buy a Bluetooth speaker? $500 luggage? No thanks!

I would have enjoyed something akin to a vintage toy store selling classic board games and toys. But again, how many people would walk in and reminisce on the products but not buy anything.

I don't know what the answer is. I will say I do love the idea of the Disney ballon sales in Town Center as it adds some Disney to a very sterile area.

Sosa Cigars has been around for almost 20 years in Downtown Disney/Disney Springs. It opened as part of the West Side addition in 1997.

Your greater point about specialty shops is well taken though and I've made similar comments myself. It's not for me, but the dining is. They've done a great job at Disney Springs with very few missteps.

What type of Family entertainment is down at DS at this time? If there isn't any type, do you think this will be added so families have more options besides dining and retail? They have done a excellent job with this development.
Edit: kind of joking, is this their chance to have Marvel characters Meet and Greet atWDW since it's not inside a theme park. disney did the Monorail loop a little while back since it didn't enter the MK theme park. But they couldn't do this with the EPCOT loop since it does go inside the park. Not trying to start a debate UN vs. disney.
