Character Meal for 1, Please

I know lots of people dine solo at WDW, but I don't seem to recall it coming up very often with character meals. Crystal Palace and 1900 PF are 2 of my fave character breakfasts, and with the way our trip is looking, it seems quite likely that I could be dining alone if I keep these ADRs. The prospect didn't really bother me at first, but a friend who has also done these meals can't help but think I'd look pretty strange and kind of pitiful posing for pics with Pooh in my party of 1. While it's easy enough to say "who cares, as long as you're happy," let's be honest and tell me what you'd think if you saw an adult dining solo at a character meal.

Honestly, my favorite character encounter of my entire trip in June was when I met Pooh and Tigger in Epcot while DH walked around and explored the UK without me. I know that's not quite the same thing as a character meal, but I had a blast! Tigger took my hand, kissed it, and then would NOT let me go until my time was up lol... in every single picture they took, Tigger was either holding my hand or had an arm around me/linked to mine. Then Tigger acted like he wanted to take a picture with just me and him in it, and Pooh photo bombed us! :hilarious:

Oh, and btw... I'm 31. So I'm old enough that, if anyone was going to judge and make me feel awkward about meeting characters by myself, it would have definitely happened. No one so much as batted an eye.

I say go for it!

Years ago when my son was a tween, no way shape or form would he eat at Chef Mickey's. Nope he was *too cool* for characters. (yeah, we see how that turned out, CM is a MUST DO each trip) Well I was DEFINATELY not giving up my ADR and YEP I went alone.. (his Dad took him to Capt Cooks) I was asked by two families, where my family was and told them the story. I was ticked off and not missing out on seeing my beloved Pluto. I had a really great meal, characters were terrific! I would definately go!

I soloed on two occasions and at first wasnt sure if I would just do counter service throughout the trip because of dining alone. Then my DW said go ahead and treat yourself to a couple of decent meals. After being seated it was fun watching the characters interact with the other families and kids at nearby tables, and when they reached my table they made sure I got my camera passed along to their friend so my pics could be taken. It was well worth doing, and I came home with some great memories. Go ahead and treat yourself.

Do it!!! WDW is one of the few places you never feel alone or lonely in the world. And for once you don't have to worry about taking pics of everyone. Or if you feel weird not snapping pics offer to take some whole group shots of families around you. Spreading the pixie dust is always awesome!

Been there, done that, will continue to do so. :)

My most recent example was with the Crystal Palace breakfast. I wanted the benefit of a buffet meal inside the park before it opened, so I went to CP. The staff were no less nice to me and nobody said anything about the fact that I was alone. The character handlers asked if I wanted to see them or not and if I said no, they respected that. Tigger and Pooh were able to play off the fact that I was alone for humour, but it was never rude or disruptive. In the end I had a nice meal and a great way to start the day, with some fun I never would have got just going to McDs for breakfast.

I think you should do it. It'd be pretty fun. I remember seeing a guy eating breakfast alone and just quietly reading his newspaper at Cape May. I didn't notice him or wonder why he was there by himself. I did only notice because Goofy sat on the other side of the table and started reading another section of his newspaper. It was cute and the guy got a laugh at it.

You would have to make sure to eat slowly though. I know when I eat alone I get much faster, because I'm not talking. You want to make sure you see all the characters you want to.

YESSSSSS.... :) When it comes to being solo at Disney - do not short change yourself because you are solo. 9 times out of 10 - when you are dining alone the CMs and even characters will go out of their way to ensure you are part of "their family". I have traveled solo many times and have dined at Ohana alone 5 times. While I admit it is somewhat uncomfortable - I never regret it because the food and ambiance are worth it. And for some reason the lady that sings always manages to remember me and come to my table and smile.

Having gone a few times on my own, I would agree that overall, people are more friendly when they see you are by yourself and by that you meet more people and have more interesting conversations since they see no one as long as you project that you are welcome to 'take others pictures' or just laugh at something that happens together... life is what you make of it and being a single at Disney is a lot of fun if you let it be!
