Character/entertainment news

Thanks for the update, but I'm really disappointed to hear this about the continued staleness of the Halloween party. It amazes me every year that they don't bother to change anything. You'd think the mix of characters would be the easiest thing to change. They've been bringing out the "ultra rare" Tarzan and Jane for the last 4 years or so... but why not change those two up at least. How great would it be to see Hercules and Meg instead??? I guess they just don't realize how many more tickets they'd sell if they'd just bother to change up the characters a little bit! I'm going this year but only because we have family going who have never been. We've been for the past four years and would not be going back otherwise -- unless of course news came out of some different characters being there. Then we'd go in a heartbeat. From the sounds of it I'm not alone.

We are going to the party this year for the first time and looking forward to it. Does anyone know which characters are usually out for meet and greets? Do they sign or just pose for pictures? Thanks!!

Typically the Villains and Snow White/7 dwarfs are pics only. That is due to their demand, and Disney's need to cycle people through as fast as possible. The other characters are usually able to sign also. Last year I recall most of the Alice characters being on the treat trail at one point or another. (You would need to do it multiple times to see them all as they cycled through) Mickey and Minnie both in their Halloween costumes, ditto for Pooh and Friends (who also cycled through I believe). Some princes/princesses were out (are princes rare?) I also want to say that some of the Jungle Book characters were in Adventureland, but I don't remember who as we glanced, and weren't set on waiting for any of them, that much I do remember. Assorted random/rare characters may show up as the dance parties, but those may/may not even post for pictures depending on the character, and how long they are supposed to be there. Try to look for some of last years info to see what characters were there, or wait until after the first few parties to see who is really out this year.

The parks should not be taking away characters, if anything they should be adding to the line up, and exposing fans to new, different, or rarely seen characters to improve upon their popularity.

Having the same characters all the time gets redundant, switch it up more often, create a buzz and get fans excited about forgotten characters/movies.

Yeah, I agree and understand, but you need to realize

1) The world's economy is still in the toilet, so they can't necessarily afford to have such a large number of characters in use at the moment. After all, they not only have to have enough to pay the characters and performers themselves, but they also have to regularly wash and dry-clean the characters' clothing, brush their fur, etc., which can be quite costly and time-consuming.

2) Sometimes, lack of popularity is what can lead to a character meet-and-greet getting pulled.

3) Some characters are indeed more popular and in-demand than others, so certain characters do need to be given top priority (such as the Fab 5, the Pooh characters, the Princesses, the Pixar characters, etc.).

At least WDW does a better job of keeping their character meet-and-greet offerings vast and varied than DL seems to do most of the time.

In regards to Flik, I've heard no word on them taking him out, but it doesn't surprise me. Apparently the costume vendor we use stopped making Flik costumes and so all we have are the costumes we currently have until they special make more Fliks. Since Flik is mostly spandex, he rips all the time, so we've had to cut down the number of Fliks going out just because we don't have the costumes. It doesn't surprise me that they'd take him out until we got new costumes in, which from what my manager says could be another year.

I would really want everyone at WDW to keep Flik and Princess Atta both at Disney's Animal Kingdom out for regular meet-&-greets near It's Tough to be a Bug! They are my favorites. Please tell the Guest Relations to bring them back this year. I really want to meet them on my upcoming WDW trip in December.

Update - Mary Poppins will no longer be in MK starting in October.

I was there Oct 27-Nov 3 and Mary Poppins was out everyday we were in the magic kingdom. She is usually in the corner by the fastpass machines for mickey and the princesses. On the 30th it was chilly so she was in her red overcoat meeting and on the 3rd she was out in her white dress. So I don't think this prediction panned out.

Note this is a three year old thread bump for an unrelated campaign
