I had dinner alone at Chef Mickey's one night and loved it. The characters gave me extra attention because I was by myself. I also thoroughly enjoyed watching all the families with kids. They were all having such a good time!

If you're happy, I'm happy. If you don't mind going there alone, there's no reason not to. You may make some new friends. Personally, if I were to go to a character meal alone (because I'm kind of a jerk) I'd make up a story as to why I'm there alone, and if anyone had the classlessness to ask me why I'm there alone, I'd tell 'em "Eh, my kids are afriad of all the characters so I left 'em in the hot tub." Or "oh, my God, where did my twins go? there were with me when I left the hotel room this morning! Eh, they'll turn up."

Not sure if you're asking
A: What restaurants in Epcot should you try
OR
B: What restaurants BESDIES the Epcot restaurants hould you try.

As far as counter service goes, I'm not sure if it's still open (rumor is it's being converted to a character meal location), but I love the rotisserie chicken & desserts at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom. That's my favorite counter-service place in all of WDW

I don't mind dining by myself, but I don't think I'd go to a character meal alone. If I were dining alone, i'd prefer to go to some place quick and find a seat off to the side and out of the way. If I were at a character restaurant dining alone, i'd feel like people were staring at me and wondering why some dude is eating by himself and hugging pooh without family around.
As far as restaurants go. By myself if i'm in epcot I will grab a burger in America, or Fish and chips in England. Same with the other parks, any quck place where I could find a burger or maybe chicken fingers. I can't think of any sit down place where i'd feel comfortable eating alone.

The only two character meals I reserved for are Breakfastosuarus and Crystal Palace because when I went in 2000 I like the food and all that went on in the places. But mostly the food.

Will I feel weird being there by myself? Who knows? Who cares? I'm there to enjoy myself.
