Kinda feel bad for Chapek he was CEO for all but what a month and a half?
To be fair, Iger knew the deal when he stepped down. He looks pretty wishy washy to me right now.To be fair, now wasn't a good time for Iger to step aside. This is an unprecedented moment in time and a major player like Disney shouldn't be led by a new CEO alone right now. Iger pitching in is the right move.
Somebody liked his performance. He earned $10 million last year including his bonus.Chapek was a disaster as chairman, imagine if he took any action as CEO.
Anyone else seeing reports that Iger is CEO again? Lol.
https:///2020/04/bob-iger-resuming-ceo-role-disney-ec1/This really is nuts. So Chapek is done as CEO then? Is Iger extending his contract?
I'm no fan of the NYT, but a disreputable click bait source?Only from disreputable click-bait sources and people with axes to grind.
If Bob really wanted to cement Bob in place and thought the company will come out the other side in fair to good shape he could have had puppet Bob be the face and sit back while he directed the moves. Bob the wizard might have decided to grab it for himself. Why link to a second hand report of a first hand article?
Bob Iger Thought He Was Leaving on Top. Now, He’s Fighting for Disney’s Life. (Published 2020)
The former C.E.O. thought he was riding into the sunset. Now he’s reasserting control and reimagining Disney as a company with fewer employees and more thermometers.www.nytimes.com
We already knew Iger was staying around as Chairman of the Board to mentor Chapek for at least half a year.
Don't know why anyone wouldn't think that Iger wouldn't step up and be hands on during one of Disney worst financial crises.
Reporting or saying "Chapek is out/fired/gone" is just irresponsible... until you have a real source that says so. The NYT is not saying so.
EXACTLY. The original source that started this mess is "the site that shall not be named" and their irresponsible reporting. Why link to a second hand report of a first hand article?

What irresponsible reporting? Reading the article in the Times gives me the distinct impression that Iger is de facto CEO. "Mr. Iger has effectively returned to running the company. After a few weeks of letting Mr. Chapek take charge, Mr. Iger smoothly reasserted control..." That's a direct quote from the Times. It also refers to Chapek as the "nominal chief executive."
That led to such things as "Chapek is out" implying he's fired or going to be fired.
Ah, so your beef is with the Times? Got it. The person I quoted was blaming Tommy C's site. That's where I was confused, as TC pretty much just quoted the Times.
The NYT didn't say Chapek is out.
They kind of didNeither did TC's article. I only saw that from a poster here.
That's the thing. There weren't any changes in structure. Chapek is still CEO, Iger is still Executive Chairman. Iger isn't CEO, the site is saying he is (and the NYT article is implying that his role in the company has changed when it hasn't).What irresponsible reporting?
